Honestly: this is not a hotel, it’s not a resort, and it’s certainly not a five star experience by any stretch. This is an elevated motel on the beach that is the closest you can get to Isola Bella. We chose this location because we wanted a relaxing beach vacation in Sicily and we had seen that some of the scenes from White Lotus season 2 were filmed there. We originally booked a refundable rate for 7 nights. The week before we were scheduled to arrive, something came up and we needed to shorten our stay in Taormina. When I called to inform the hotel, the first thing I was told by the concierge on the phone was that we still needed to pay the full amount because we booked a non refundable rate. She had not even checked my reservation. I politely advised her to check her records because in fact we had booked a refundable rate. Only when she actually checked the records (that I provided via email) did she concede that we have a refundable rate. I asked her to send me an updated email confirmation with the new information for just the three nights. She assured me she would send it. It took me three or four phone calls to her in the span of two hours (with a 6 hour time difference, mind you) requesting an email with written confirmation of the new rate. Only when I put the pressure on her and asked to either put her manager on the phone or send it while I was on the phone, did she promise me I would have it within the hour. I gave her one last chance - and only then she did deliver. I should not have had to press this hard for a simple email confirmation, but I already felt I could not trust the hotel because of her not being thorough during our first telephone interaction. This is why I pushed very hard to make sure we were covered, in writing. We arrived at the property and upon check in were given a property tour by the concierge. We booked a double room with patio (not a bungalow, because we had read mixed reviews about the bungalows). When we approached the bungalow section of the property, the concierge noted that we were now in the area where the most important and most VIP guests stay. WHO SAYS THIS TO A GUEST NOT STAYING IN THAT AREA?! It made me feel horrible….as if because we didn’t book a bungalow, we did not matter. It truly hurt me. I didn’t address it in the moment, I was so shocked that I played nice about it, but inside I was very hurt, and was very upset privately later on. When we were allowed in our room we noticed there was no floor length mirror…. I had to ask for one, and they brought one quickly but it had shattered glass in one corner of the mirror. We had a hot tub on our patio; looked like someone serviced the equipment and left the top it uncovered so when we arrived we were treated to a less than glorious sight (see photo). The “walls” of our patio were large sheets of canvas - so you could hear everything that was said/happening on the patio next to yours. They didn’t even size the tar

Grand Hotel San Pietro

Batu, the gourmet restaurant at the Grand Hotel San Pietro Taormina Sicily and its boutique hotel is an absolute five star gem and must experience for travel adventurers and foodies seeking a real touch of old world class! Food GM Luigi was our passionate and deeply knowledgeable personal culinary guide for an exquisite experience of Chef Luca’s Batu food artistry. Wrapped in the cashmere caress of the unique five star boutique on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea in a magical garden setting of glowing lights and beautifully appointed terrace, the story of elevated Sicilian cuisine tells a story of the Etna elements, authentic produce and traditions elevated with modern techniques set apart by its inner beauty. From exceptional amuse bouche to amuse bouche to an forgettable bread course with a whipped sweet cream hand turned butter, through each chapter of our selected menu of Sicilian flavors including a delicate crisped zucchini pasta to the perfect bite of Al Dente lasagna of ragu to a trio of perfectly seasoned and delicately grilled meats to a fantastical finish of miniature Italian desserts all beautifully plated and intellectually stimulating of the senses; topping a special evening of lovingly prepared food and beautifully presented and paced service. We very highly recommend the Batu and San Pietro, five stars all the way and without the tired forced pretentiousness so common now, from the moment we stepped out of our car thru every experience from breakfast to pool to coordinated excursions. Thank you so much to Luigi, Chef Luca, Fabio, Mikela, Nino, the very kind pool manager, and the entire GHSP dedicated staff for making our trip so memorable. Grand Hotel San Pietro truly rivals the best of the best!! 🙌❤️ Love, JAM from NYC

Hotel Ipanema

We really enjoyed our stay here. Some of the negative comments are unbelievable. Before going to the Taormina area, you have to appreciate that there are two parts. The old town of Taormina is up on a mountain, the part by the sea is Mazzaro. The hotel is in Mazzaro. Taormina itself gets very busy and fairly expensive but nothing can take away from the charm of the place and it's great in the evening. I have been several times but my wife never. Especially if you do want some beach, Mazzaro is the better bet to stay. The Ipanema is ideally located near the funicular to get into town and close to the beautiful Isola Bella. Free but crowded beach. We had a warm welcome and our room was on the 3rd floor with a little balcony and a fabulous view of the bay. Yes the hotel is near the road but set back and in the evening is really peaceful. The aircon worked so well we had to turn it right down! Ample wardrobe space for two with a huge quantity of hangers. Lovely bath/shower in a nice sized bathroom. The bed was really comfortable and was impeccably made every day and the sheets seemed to be changed often. We had an issue with no signal on the modern TV but the hotel promptly put that right. We had a fridge but it more stopped cooled drinks from getting warm rather than cooling them. Apparently it was a remnant of a mini bar which they are withdrawing. I do hope they keep the fridges going. On the 5th floor there is a roof top solarium (baking) and up some steps a pleasant pool but limited lounging space. It would be nice though if they replaced a couple of the tiles on the side of and in the pool. There is a lovely courtyard outside with comfortable seating to have an after dinner drink from the reasonable bar. The hotel also has its own paid for (inc shuttle bus) private beach club with loungers very pleasant pool, tennis court and a snack bar. The restaurant was closed. There is also an underground car park. The food in the hotel was amazing. Always a choice of 4 starters always a Sicilian pasta dish (huge), risotto or a soup. Choice of mains different every day, fish or meat with vegetables. Oddly they always had an 'English' type dish like egg and chips. (Why in this day and age). The desserts were on a big table, a sort of cake (actually mousse like) water melon (wonderful) fresh fruit salad and I think a sort of creme caramel. Sometimes there were two 'cakes'; it changed every day. One evening they had Connoli and we made the big mistake of not choosing that as we thought it was cream. No. It's a typical Sicilian Patisserie stuffed with sweet ricotta. Sublime. My Sicilian friend ordered some little ones in a restaurant. On Saturday they had a gigantic buffet. Absolutely enormous. The staff are all lovely. The waiters are trained to a high standard and are really friendly. We watched fascinated while Vincenzo or Mario took an entire fish and filleted it in front of us. Thank you Kristina for all your information and efficiency. And to the l

Hello there all, In the summer i visited this hotel with my girlfriend. This hotel is truly a sweet one! When we got there it looked nice and clean. Very well maintained. When we were checking in to get a room, we were being helped by very kind people. We got a room on the third floor with a view at the garden. The room was nice. It had aircondioning, bathtub/shower, television and a nice 2 person bed. The view on the garden was also nice, with lots of crickets. So lovely. I was very happy and satisfied with the room. It looked good, had a nice view and it was clean. My gf however really wanted a room with sea view, and conviced me to ask for a room with sea view. So we went back to the receptionist ladies to ask them. In the back of my head i kind of expected them just to say: nope sorry! But when we asked they were actually trying really hard to find a room for us! So nice of them. After they did some talking and stuff they said to follow to another room. Well it was a big surprise for me! We got a room with a very nice sea view. We had a big balcony too with 2 chairs and a nice table. Super romantic it was! Everything looked super tight and clean. Also it was a bright room. So we were super happy and ready for our vacation. We booked with brekky in the morning so we could have some nice food in our tummy to start the day. The breakfast was from 7:30 to 10:00. The restaurant in the hotel looked really good! Also the personnel was so fast! And the food! Oh my god the food was so good. They had 3 different foodstyles, which was a very pleasent experience for the tummy. Everything was fresh, from fruit to meat, everything was good! The servants were kind and helpfull. Especially Allessandro, he was the best with his super positive vibes! For information to what to do and where to go, we went to the reception, and the people would help us kindly. They give good tips too. To make it short everyone was very helpfull. The hotel is in a pretty good position. It is 200 meters away from the gondeler ( that skilift type thing) that will bring you up the mountain where the city centre is. It will only take 2 mins. Also the hotel is very close to the beach. The entrance of the hotel is wheelchair friendly. They have an elevator and everything is very wide. The swimmimg pool was very nice too. Altough i never swam in it, it looked very inviting to me. I read some reviews about this hotel, but i cannot understand that some of them are so negative. The hotel is a very charming place that gives you a real nice italian experience on your vacation. On the last day we had to leave very early at 5 in the morning and guess who was waiting for us to say goodbye. Yes it was Allessandro!!! He also even gave us a small foodback with yogurt and bread, ham and cheese and stuff for on the way. He came an hour before his starting time to.say goodbye. This man is the kindest of all! He really had a good heart! I had a great time on my vacation. If you are loo

A renovated clean hotel with nice sea view. Great location, very conveniently located close (walking distance) to the key highlights of Taormina, shops and the upper entrance of the cable car. Staff was attentive and friendly willing to share information and highlights about the area. Whenever we asked for assistance it was happily provided. The room we got was spacious and comfortable. There is a public parking adjacent to the hotel but if you want a private one to guarantee a spot, the hotel can easily arrange. Even though the breakfast is basic, its tasty. Would have preferred a bathroom with a natural ventilation but that did not affect our stay at all.

We had a last minute change with my husband and my father (52, and 83) to Taormina and so it was a challenge with very little prep time where to stay in a vertical place with my elderly father who is in good shape but challenged by long walks, inclines and extreme heat. We did it all-- close to the bus station (4 minutes), Corso Umberto (8 minutes), the Antico Teatrico and the view cannot be beat. There's souvenir shops and a mini mart within 4 minutes walk and the cable car is also only 5 minutes away. My husband and I enjoyed the pool and the views. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast the next morning before leaving. No one could be more helpful or nicer in this hotel. CONS: It's a steep driveway to climb up and down for the elderly. Watching my dad in either direction was a little dicey and with his blood thinners I did not want him to take a spill. PROS: Everything else.

Please do not go unless you value incredible views and fantastic customer service. Yes, the rooms are tired , outdated, shower is ridiculously small, pillows are lumpy, however, what more than makes up for that is first class customer service, views and yes views again. Cleanliness, really good. Pool area, well again probably due an update but again fantastic views. Thank you everyone who made my holiday so fabulous. I have been to Sicily a few times before, and especially loved it this time due to the unique setting. Unless I wanted to explore the east side of Sicily on my next visit I would definitely book this hotel again. Solo travelling and not put out the back, single room with balcony and sea views

Perfect location right by the sea below Taormina. Friendly reception check-in and personal transfer to our room - a good size, clean with a large balcony with a perfect sea view (across to Italy in the very distance!). The Hotel has its own private beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, towels and life guards. A large terrace area offered a breakfast spread with plenty of fruit, pastries and both hot & cold items. Very good evening menu with excellent waiting service from Raymond, Francesco, Ignazio and colleagues - the manager Giuseppe even gave us a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. Well done. Reception organised a quick taxi service up to Taormina centre to save a climb!
