This concert should mark the end of the road for the Beach Boys in their current form. It was difficult to watch. Mike Love sang only five songs before spending much of the concert seated beside the drum kit, looking frail and visibly uncomfortable. The show ended earlier than expected, seemingly because of his health. Compared to the concert I attended in November 2025, he appeared to have lost at least 20 pounds. His voice was noticeably weaker, lacking the strength and confidence that once defined his performances. While it's understandable that he feels a responsibility to keep the Beach Boys touring and support everyone who depends on the band, there comes a point where someone's well-being should take precedence over continuing to perform. John Stamos contributed on guitar and drums, and his drumming was one of the evening's highlights. However, his singing was mediocre, and he seemed distracted throughout the show. He repeatedly walked toward the side of the stage where his wife and young son were seated and rarely displayed the charismatic smile and stage presence audiences have come to expect. His focus appeared to be on bringing his son onstage rather than engaging with the audience. While it was undoubtedly a meaningful family moment, his son neither played an instrument nor contributed musically, making the segment feel out of place during a professional concert. The setlist featured many classic Beach Boys hits, but the performances felt strangely lifeless. The band delivered the songs competently, yet there was almost no emotion, enthusiasm, or meaningful interaction with the audience. Instead of celebrating one of America's greatest catalogs, the concert felt mechanical and uninspired—like watching a dim light bulb slowly fade. The one standout performer was Christian Love. He possesses a stunning, rich voice that captured the spirit of the Beach Boys far more effectively than anyone else on stage. His performances injected much-needed energy into an otherwise flat evening. Mike Love would be wise to step aside and allow Christian to assume a larger leadership role. Rather than continuing under increasingly difficult circumstances, the future could be better served by letting Christian carry these timeless songs forward under a new identity, such as "Christian Love and the Songs of the Beach Boys." For longtime fans, this was a disappointing and sobering concert that suggested the Beach Boys have reached the point where preserving their legacy may be more important than extending it.
