The Astor Hotel Tianjin

Returned to the legendary Astor Hotel with my family, and it happened to rain in Tianjin. This time, we stayed in the old annex wing again, right across from the Hoover Suite. The Republic of China era ambiance was incredibly strong, and it had a large balcony. At night, it was right next to the projection wall, with tourists taking photos on the street, and we became part of the scene. The housekeeping auntie at the Astor was very thoughtful. When we met her as we were leaving, she specifically greeted us and gave us a few bottles of water. The Astor Hotel is very close to the Haihe River, with its own Astor Pier, from where you can embark on a night cruise. The front desk staff were super attentive; I specifically noted their name tags: Amanda, Maggie, and Kennys. We made sure to take a Haihe River cruise that evening. The 50-minute journey offered scenic views in the rain, which was especially delightful. We were very fortunate this time to catch a guided tour by Ms. Wang Chen. The children followed the guide, immersing themselves in the historical ocean of the museum and learning a great deal.

The service was excellent from pre-arrival, through check-in, and all the way to departure. The two front desk managers, a gentleman and a lady, left a deep impression with their consistent warmth and willingness to assist with inquiries and arrangements – many thanks to them. The housekeeping staff were also very welcoming, quick, and diligent. However, the hotel facilities are indeed quite old. Even in the new building, there was a noticeable musty smell, and details like windows and soft furnishings needed improvement in terms of cleanliness. Some cabinet and interior doors also required maintenance and refurbishment. Due to these issues, I ended up moving to another hotel. I hope this historic establishment can be properly managed, keep up with the times, and regain its former glory.

This stay far exceeded my expectations! The hotel's location is fantastic, and the facilities are very well-maintained. Even the basic room types offer the option of a street-facing room with a large balcony, providing a great view directly overlooking the park. Enjoying the night view from the balcony chairs in the evening was incredibly pleasant! The hotel staff were also very friendly, and all my needs during the stay were well met. I will definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Tianjin!

Came to Tianjin for a relaxing trip with the kids. I originally booked a more expensive hotel, but a friend recommended this one, saying it was very unique, so I booked it right away. As soon as we arrived, the hotel had such a great ambiance 😊. The room was quiet and clean, and although it wasn't brand new, it had a very stylish and vintage feel. We even took some photos of the kids in the hotel, and they turned out amazing. The hotel gave us tickets to a performance, and the immersive show was really good. The bar was also excellent for drinks, and there's a museum downstairs that's worth exploring. It's right by the Haihe River, and the surrounding area is great for a stroll and taking pictures. Before we left, the hotel even arranged a small gift for the kids, which was a very thoughtful touch ❤️

After many years, I'm back at the Astor Hotel, and it still looks as grand and beautiful as ever, not showing its age at all. The room was, as always, spotless and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet offered a great variety. A big thank you to the front desk staff who gave us a detailed overview of the hotel's activities during our stay, which led to us having a relaxing and enjoyable time at the bar. Also, special thanks to the museum guide for helping us learn so much about the hotel's history. I hope my next stay will be just as wonderful.

Choosing the Astor Hotel this time really exceeded my expectations. I booked a Victoria King Room, and the front desk upgraded me to a room with a balcony. It's located in the hotel's old wing, which has an elegant atmosphere and even a small museum inside. Many famous figures from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republican era stayed here. The hotel's location on Jiefang North Road is fantastic, with many historic buildings from that period nearby, perfect for a casual stroll. The Haihe River is right outside the door, making the whole trip absolutely worthwhile.

Service: The service was excellent, and I really felt the staff's dedication and responsibility. Hygiene: We stayed in the old building, and for a hotel with so much history, the cleanliness was acceptable.

The Astor Hotel is absolutely stunning! My parents and I stayed for two nights and honestly, we didn't want to leave. It was their first time visiting Tianjin, and staying in a hotel with such a rich history and cultural heritage felt incredibly special. Our room, despite its age, was meticulously clean and decorated so charmingly, every photo we took looked straight out of an old vintage movie. We stayed in both a balcony room and a non-balcony room, and each had its own charm. The balcony room was smaller, perfect for one person, but had the largest terrace where you could enjoy the street views up close, breathe in the Tianjin air, and even hear the park-goers playing their instruments, haha! The non-balcony room was much more spacious, feeling huge even for my parents, they could practically run circles in it! Some of the furniture showed a bit of wear due to age, but that's part of staying in a historic hotel, and it was perfectly acceptable. The hotel's current top-up gift offer is a fantastic deal, and I'm already looking forward to my next stay in Tianjin. Highly recommend, 10/10!
