This property is in an authentic period house. This is not a fully modernised property that is perfectly presented, with all the mod cons and has forgonne all the charm and excentricities of old homes. We stayed in one of the larger king bedded rooms and it was spacious. The property is not staffed after hours therefore you need to consider if you are comfortable with that arrangement. The heating is gas ducted central heating - essential in winter, however the rooms do not have indiviual controllers - this can be an issue if you are hot or cold blodded - so to speak. The breakfast was lovely and the staff member involved was a please to meet each morning.

Our trip was for 2 sad events in the one day, yet our 2 nights at Vacy Hall lifted our spirits and provided a sanctuary to regroup, recharge and turn our trip into one with wonderful memories. You can’t help but take yourselves back to an older era where is time less important to sharing space and company in wide verandas in relaxing spacious grounds. This is a bucket list place to bring your wife and leave your troubles behind.

We loved our weekend away at this boutique country hotel. It was such a privilege to stay in this historical home. We enjoyed the King suit which was well appointed, warm and so quiet despite being within walking distance of the city centre where we enjoyed some great wine bar discoveries, alley artwork, restaurants and lovely parks. It was certainly a refreshing mini break during a hectic time of the year. Highly recommend.

I had purchased a lovely weekend away with my partner for his Christmas present. This was on my must do list. Unfortunately very disappointing service and the owner was rude. I was so upset that we ended up cancelling and not going. No refund was given.
Response from Property: I am sorry your expectations were not met. Unfortunately you cancelled your reservation on very short notice and in that timeframe I was unable to resell your reservation. Our cancellation policy is fair but if we are not given adequate notice it is unreasonable to expect me to process a refund. I have been doing this for nearly 20 years and I am never rude, but when someone doesn't get what they want they sometimes unfairly accuse me of me being so. To then use a review forum in the way you have is in my opinion an abuse of the platform.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Vacy Hall. The price was very reasonable for the opportunity to stay in such a lovely location with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. It is also close enough to the city centre to walk down for dinner or to explore.

We had to cancel our stay due to flooding in the area and the road warnings. We gave as much notice as possible (more than 24 hours). The proprietor was extremely rude and refused any sort of refund. We will never stay there in future. This is very bad PR and doesn't encourage people to stay there. We will be pursuing this through the Office of Fair Trading as it is very unfair. We certainly did not get what we paid for ($323.49).
Response from Property: Thanks for sharing your opinion on our cancellation policy. I was not rude, I was unwilling to do as you wanted. We believe our approach is fair to all parties. We provide full unconditional refunds up to 2 weeks out from arrival date. Further, if you cancel inside 2 weeks we share the risk with you, if we can resell the cancelled nights we will issue a refund, if we are unable to resell your cancelled nights because you have cancelled at the last minute there is no refund. It is harder for us to resell rooms cancelled at the last minute. When their is confusion about whether people can travel this also makes it harder to resell cancelled rooms. It would appear from your comments you were not aware that some roads were open and not willing to consider your options. We had a number of people who travelled to Toowoomba very safely over the weekend as they wanted to stay at Vacy Hall so we worked closely with them to inform them of the all weather route. Unfortunately you were not open to a discussion about possibilities. Unfortunately as a small business we are unable to afford to provide our guests with a "fine weather guarantees" and hope you can understand. Best wishes

I acknowledge that the Vacy Hall cancellation policy of 100% charge if you cancel within 2 weeks of your stay is clearly spelt out in the fine print on their web site. We booked a (more expensive) single room for 14 and 15 May 2022 to attend a number of organised heritage gardens visits. The heavy rain in the area caused the garden openings to be cancelled on 11 May, and, furthermore, the roads from Brisbane to Toowoomba were cut by floodwaters on 13/14 May, and Police were advising people to stay off these roads - we had no option but to cancel late on 11 May. 3 days notice, but the exercise has cost us $450. Other competitive accommodation offerings in Toowoomba have a 24 hour cancellation policy, and even then you will be charged for one night. While i do not doubt that Vacy hall is everything described in other reviews, eg "charming...historic...lovely" we will not be rebooking under these conditions.
