The Somerville

There is a reason that this establishment is number 1 in Torquay! The location is perfect, on the quieter side of Torquay yet still close to all facilities, with their own car park. To ensure requirements are met for arrival Peter keeps in touch via email and phone. On arrival we were given a warm reception and information needed for our stay, including recommendations of local hospitality. Peter took us to our room and explained all we needed to know. Helen bakes cakes daily and I was told they were delicious, on this occassion I resisted temptation. The Garden Suite was perfect, it has all you need to enjoy a luxurious stay. The separate lounge area within the suite is a bonus, especially as it had french doors to the patio, garden and carpark. Within the room you will find a fridge with bottled water and fresh milk, an assortment of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and filter coffee pouch to use with the provided cafetiere. The bedroom has everything you would need, including a fan, ironing board and iron, heater, hairdryer to name a few items. The bed, pillows and duvet are amazing. The decor and design of all rooms are spot on. Now, the bathroom is perfect....from the rainfall shower, to the aesthetic, the complimentary The White Company toiletries, the luxury robes, fluffy towels and the super touch light mirror, I could go on! The breakfast that Helen cooks to order is spectacular! There are so many options of both hot and cold items. Superb! Talking of superb, at breakfast you will meet Paul! Paul is funny, witty, helpful and a real gem to add to this establishment. It was lovely to chat to other guests over breakfast, especially as we were from different sides of the country and the World. New Years Eve, Peter and Helen invited us to complimentary drinks to celebrate with them and all guests before heading out to celebrate the New Year. This was an added bonus to the evening and Peter is most definitely an engaging host. There are so many complimentary things to say about the boutique and Helen, Peter and Paul, it was definitely a stay I won't forget and it made my birthday celebrations memorable. Stayed for three nights. Peter is a great host, meeting us on arrival to welcome us in. Two beautiful rooms / a bedroom and small lounge, with a recently refurbished and very stylist shower room. Tasteful decor with a large comfortable bed and good quality bed linen. All very clean. Beautifully prepared breakfast, with plenty of fresh fruit, cereals plus a good choice of cooked too. The Somerville is just a 10 minute walk down to the sea front. Torquay museum is a 5 minute walk. An excellent place to visit. The Hole in the Wall is a lovely old pub serving great food and only 7 minute walk down the hill. I can highly recommend a stay at the Somerville!

Stayed at the Somerville for a couple of days over Easter Could not fault it lovely breakfast. Peter Helen and Paul went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. Both Peter and Helen recommended places to go either to eat drink or cycle and all their recommendations were top notch.

Beautiful place to stay, fab location and amazing hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything top notch. Tasteful interiors and lots of top tips for places to visit, good restaurants and interesting pubs. Breakfasts are amazing with a huge choice of absolutely delicious options. There’s even a homemade cake of the day to help yourself to when you return from exploring. What a fantastic break.

Fantastic place with the best hosts Return every easter think it’s around 6 times now. Rooms are beautiful and food exceptional. Love Torquay lots to do and places to visit. Would highly recommend a stay at the Summerville. Lots of on site parking.

We had a short break at the end of March to celebrate both my husbands Birthday and our silver Wedding Anniversary, and we had an amazing stay! The suite we had was fab and was serviced daily when everything was topped up, fresh milk, bottled water, and sweets, and Paul who serviced the rooms made the perfect bed!!!! Everyday Helen always made amazing cakes which were left for you to try…. Helen’s breakfasts are simply amazing, there’s lots of fresh and natural products, and everything is locally sourced which we both love, on the last day I tried the waffles; wow, definitely filling! Both Helen and Pete are amazing hosts and they and Paul are what makes the Somerville the hotel that it is, nothing is too much trouble for them and we cannot wait to return!!!

Loved our stay. Peter and Helen we're lovely, friendly and very welcoming hosts. The house was spotless, cosy and very well presented. A breakfast to keep you going all day. Very good location. Will be our choice in the future. Highly recommended Helen and Peter

Once again a lovely visit. Stayed in the Garden Suite with its new bathroom renovated to a very high standard. The welcome and breakfast were up to their normal very high standards. The hosts are very engaging and go out their way to help. Will definitely be back.

A wonderful two night stay in a luxurious room with the most comfortable bed. The breakfast was amazing and all cooked to order. In the afternoon cake was provided which was a very pleasant surprise and very welcome. Peter was very knowledgeable about the local area giving details of buses we could use, he also booked a table for us at Amici's, an excellent local restaurant.
