Hotel MS Tropicana

Not really sure how this is a 4 star hotel at all ??? Really dated and old and no facilites other than the swimming pool were open during our stay ? No bar or way of getting drinks or snacks. It felt more like a hostel ? The bath had not been cleaned when we arrived and there was shampoo/ showel gel stains on the side . The bathroom had a tub with a shower hose over it but on the wrong wall so there was no room to move and the shower curtain sticks to you ! No non slip base so wasn't suitable for my 76 year old Mum to get in and shower without the risk of slipping over ? We were allowed to use the facilities of the sister hotel next door but would have been nice to just even have a vending machine or bar to get a drink in our hotel. The view of our "Sea View " room was excellent and the best bit about our room. The fridge was not very efficient and there was only one electric socket in the whole room. The hair dryer was very slow but got too hot to hold after a few minutes. I would not wanted to have stayed in the other rooms without a seaview as they only had views of the wall of the building next door. The reception staff were extremely friendly and always had a smile but this hotel has no welcoming atmosphere outside of summer months. When booking it should be made clear that there are no facilites during out of summer season months. It's a shame as the location is fantastic and this could be a really nice little gem if given a bit of TLC.

Stayed for 2 nights,felt very relaxed at the hotel especially with a bright and cheerful reception from the lady on the desk as we checked in.Breakfast was a good selection of hot and cold foods.I ate the typical English breakfast,cereal,toast,eggs,bacon etc.My wife chose smoked salmon with a variety of cheeses and quality fruit,all food was replenished when needed.We ate in a part of the restaurant which I believe some guests were not aware of,a glass fronted dining room overlooking the promenade and the sea with beautiful views of the sunrise,absolutely brilliant! Our room was spacious,clean,great bathroom and balcony,huge TV with a massive selection of UK channels and a very efficient fridge.The hotel is a good example of a 4 star.We could have used the free spa but chose to spend our stay enjoying the late autumn sun.Some guests have mentioned old and dated decor,we found the room more than adequate,the theme is after all "Tropical"The bar area was permanently closed but we could have used the one next door in the sister hotel the 4 star MS Amaragua.The swimming pool was open but we chose to use the larger pool in the MS Amaragua. The negative was the evening meal served in the MS Amaragua.Incredibly opulent entrance and reception area gave us high expectations,escalator into the restaurant showing a bright and roomy area.The starter,huge mixed salad was great,it was 4 star.The main course was where it fell apart,many options were missing from the servery with little effort to replenish.Worse was all the hot food was at best luke warm.A low 3 star for this course.Dessert was abysmal,all the items ended up in a small heap on 1 small chilled section,ice cream and a tiny selection of chilled cake,no creams,all the fresh fruit had gone ,we were not late diners!Stay here again,YES,but forget the evening meal!

Nice small hotel which was clean and tidy. Although the rooms looked dated the furniture was substantial and looked well made. Everything worked well. Especially good air conditioning and the TV had loads of British channels. Walls are a bit thin so can be a little noisy. Breakfast could be busy but personally never had a problem. Hot meal choice was the usual Spanish fare but the cold selection and bread choice was very good. They also had a GF bread selection. Although the facilities at the Tropicana are practically non-existent, everything you could want or need is available at the very nice sister hotel, MS Amaragua, next door and the 2 hotels are connected with a walkway. All-in-all, recommended and I would be happy to stay here again.

Overall a fantastic hotel, clean ,well maintained and in a perfect location. Could be a few more choices at breakfast time. Would recommend this hotel and will definitely return. Short walk to Torremolinos or Benelmadena both worth visiting. The marina in Benelmadena is stunning, excellent restaurants with budgets to suit everyone

Strange hotel, like going back to the 1960's, no bar open at any time of the day or night. Breakfast was served in a small room and the same food every day, only the fried egg and bacon was hot, the rest of the food was only warm. Shower has zero power and everything seemed old. On the plus side the who place is very clean, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the hotel next door where evening meals are served is really nice. I cannot see how this is a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in far better 3 star hotels in Costa Del Sol.

We stayed in the MS TROPICANNA - nice staff, clean but room very dated and no coffee making facilities. Room in my opinion let the rest of the hotel down as everything else was really lovely. We had the option to use the hotel facilities connected next door which were excellent, so our stay was really nice. Excellent food and lovely staff. Just the room needs updating

Overall the room was clean and tidy, and cleaned often if required. WiFi is touch and go, but your on holiday 🤣 so not a problem. Not many staff on site, and drinks have to be purchased from partner hotel next door. Bonus to this is the pool for the side has no access issues. Easy walk into harbour or town for excellent food places to dine at. If you after a room that’s clean, and not fussed about entertainment then this is ok.
