Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada

Torremolinos|0.09km from Mujeres Corriendo por la Playa
This was our second 3-week stay at this large, bustling hotel. Last year we stayed in a superior side sea view room and loved the views, decor and peace and quiet. This year we decided to pay extra for a junior suite, but ended up wishing we hadn't bothered. Although the suite was huge and had 2 sofas plus a hot tub on the balcony, we felt it didn't live up to our expectations. We heard a lot of noise from other hotel guests, which appeared to come through the air con vents; during our stay there was a Spanish couple next door who seemed to scrape their furniture across the floor at all times of day and night. On another occasion there were 3 young couples staying on either side of us who insisted on shouting at each other across their balconies. They also smoked constantly, so we ended up having to leave our balcony and sit in our room to avoid inhaling the fumes. We found the water in the shower often ran cold - one night we had to report it, as we both ended up having a completely cold shower. The cleaners, waiters and entertainment staff were generally pleasant and very hard-working, but we found some of the reception staff quite aloof. The restaurant got really busy and noisy at times and it was sometimes difficult to find a table. The food on an evening was generally decent - especially the freshly cooked fish, but a lot of the cooked meat dishes were unappetising stews and barely warm. Since our visit this year we've concluded that large, noisy hotels just aren't for us - we'll be trying somewhere smaller and quieter next year.

5 day short stay in March , as others have said I bit underwhelmed at the entrance but once inside very clean and all staff friendly and welcoming. Go out the gate by the pool area and you’re straight on the promenade, and a supermarket on the doorstep too. The rooftop pool/bar area as great views too. The food was great too and plenty choice in the area if you want to eat out. We’d not been to this area before and really liked the chilled old town vibe… maybe different in high season. We couldn’t fault anything for what we paid , only 4 not 5 because noise carried but still found it relaxing at this time of year plus the weather was great. Just ask for a kettle instead of packing one , delivered to your room. If you hire a car parking is a problem in the locality, the hotel one is a few street away and payable.

I have been coming to this hotel in Torremelinos for well over 20 years. I even came after it had been refurbished. It is very nice and spotlessly clean.. It is situated in a prime location on Salvador Allende in Montemar area of Torremelinos. I really enjoy my time here and the hotel staff are very helpful and friendly always. The only criticism I have of this hotel. The beds are Rock hard and I wake up badly bruised and aching from my slumber... I wish Sol Timor Apartments would install more comfortable mattresses. Otherwise I have absolutely no problem with it at all...
Hotel Carmen Teresa

The Carmen Teresa is a lovely family owned hotel with approximately 40 bedrooms and is quite possibly the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. It won't suit everybody because it is situated on a rather busy road but it doesn't bother me one bit and when the balcony doors are closed you hear no road noise whatsoever inside and the attractive garden and pool area to the rear is incredibly tranquil too. The beautiful beach of La Carihuela is only a 5 or 6 minute stroll away down a slight hill, where you will also find a huge selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There's a bus stop just seconds away from the hotel, so exploring the area is made simple and incredibly cheap. There's even a new Aldi store just a short walk from the hotel too. To keep this review real I have mentioned the road, the bedroom walls too would probably be a bit thin for some and the water system can be noisy at times but overall I love this hotel. The staff can't do enough for you, the location is terrific, the price is so competitive and it's only a 20 minute transfer from the airport . I've stayed at the Carmen Teresa three times now and will definitely be staying there again

La Barracuda

Another lovely stay at la barracuda, roof top bar is amazing ( draft beer would make it perfect) The sea view from our room was fantastic, Barracuda has a large pool so great if you want to do some proper swimming . Simply go out the promenade gate and your on the beach front , with its abundance of beach restaurants and bars serving everything from tapas , fresh fish and amazing paella. Breakfast at the hotel is pretty good and most the staff helpful . We are returning in a few weeks for a family holiday , which is probably the best praise I can give the hotel !!!!!
Hotel MS Tropicana

Nice small hotel which was clean and tidy. Although the rooms looked dated the furniture was substantial and looked well made. Everything worked well. Especially good air conditioning and the TV had loads of British channels. Walls are a bit thin so can be a little noisy. Breakfast could be busy but personally never had a problem. Hot meal choice was the usual Spanish fare but the cold selection and bread choice was very good. They also had a GF bread selection. Although the facilities at the Tropicana are practically non-existent, everything you could want or need is available at the very nice sister hotel, MS Amaragua, next door and the 2 hotels are connected with a walkway. All-in-all, recommended and I would be happy to stay here again.
