Without doubt this is a very classy, stately, elegant hotel in an idyllic setting. Furnishings, decor and a**osphere are absolutely right for the age and prestige of the building. Staff are equally good, all being courteous, attentive, and friendly without informality. So full marks to management for their obvious care in recrui**ent of high calibre staff, and their attention to detail in thorough, correct training and supervision. So why only 3* ? 1) The price of rooms is simply too high. A very small room for over £500 is too much, even given the up market surroundings and service. 2) Their 1870 "fine dining" restaurant is terribly overrated. I've reviewed it separately, but it's just not very good for various reasons. Can't comment on their more casual Bo & Muk Brasserie, but I reckon we probably should have eaten there, or elsewhere. 3) Breakfast is not very good either, and service in the morning is utterly dreadful. A 20 minute wait between finishing cereal to arrival of cooked breakfast would be unacceptable even in a cheap hotel, but at this level and price it's simply inexcusable. And no they weren't busy at that time. So all in all this is an excellent if very overpriced hotel, let down by its restaurant in both evenings and mornings.

Have just spent two nights in The Stables with my sister as a belated birthday present. Fabulous place, with breathtaking scenery. Extremely happy with the room and its facilities and cleanliness. Staff everywhere were polite and friendly. Breakfast served in the main hotel was very enjoyable and plenty of choice. We had dinner one evening in the Bo and Muc and again staff were friendly, and food was lovely. They were also accommodating of my dietary needs following cancer surgery. Thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing stay, and I would happily return. I most definitely recommend The Torridon.

Completely stunning. Such a picturesque setting and the building itself is beautiful in so many ways. The staff were incredible for all of our stay and made us feel so welcome. The a**osphere throughout our stay was constantly good, I can't say any of us noticed any dips. A phenomenal selection of whisky, if we made a 100 trips here we still wouldn't have tried them all! We can't wait to be back and make this the main stay of our vacation!

Excellent staff very friendly and helpful, has a warm and welcoming a**osphere. Two dining options you can choose the more formal option in the house however we choose to eat at Bo and Muc the other restaurant in the converted stable block and the food was excellent.

We were travelling in the area, and I really wanted to visit the hotel. I rang to enquire about having breakfast. I spoke with Steve the restaurant manager and he said he could arrange tea and scones for us. On arrival the receptionist welcomed us and was expecting us. We were shown to a beautifully set table with a stunning view of the grounds and surrounding area. We were served a delicious breakfast. The food, the staff, the hotel and the area were all stunning. I cannot wait to return and stay to experience more The Torridon has to offer.

Branding for The Torridon is ‘no other place like it’. I wholeheartedly agree, nestled on the banks of beautiful Loch Torridon, it is without doubt a special place and well worth the effort on single track roads to get there. Warmly welcomed, this small perfectly formed and immaculate hotel is the perfect place to spend time. The team without exception is discreet, polite and professional. The interiors are both traditional and modern with a nod to its heritage but not twee, I loved the bold use of colour. We ate in both restaurants, each great. My husband enjoyed the whiskey bar with its vast array of choice and knowledgeable bar tender. We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the loch and the brook running alongside the hotel. Immaculate and beautifully furnished, very comfortable bed, Bamford products and fluffy towels. The surrounding area is stunning, we visited Eilean Doran castle and took a drive to Applecross, which takes you along the Atlantic coast with views across to Skye, not for the faint hearted but not to be missed. There are five star hotels and then there are five star hotels masquerading as a five star and I have been to both. The Torridon is definitely worthy of its five stars. Special mention to Hazel, Louis and Steeve. Thank you for looking after us so well, we shall return.

This hotel was pure relaxation and a quiet relaxed class about it. We had the most beautiful room with a view over the inlet. I only wish I had another night to stay and enjoy. The evening dinner of risotto was excellent and the whiskeys that evening with Louis looking after us was the perfect end to a perfect evening.

An unforgettable experience and well worth the journey made from South Manchester. Every member of staff so friendly, the warmest of welcomes, tailored local advice for day trips, and lovely food. We had no problem booking our stay, and as we were celebrating two special occasions both a birthday and 5th anniversary, we booked some extras too - flowers in the room and a guided walk up Beinn Dàmh with Torridon Outdoors - all delivered with the same outstanding personal service. In our four-day trip, we ate at 1887 once and Bo & Muc twice with different brasserie menu options each night, and happily lounged in the bar browsing the extensive gin and whisky menu with the majestic view of the sea loch. For coffees and lunch while out on day trips, we visited Shieldag (Nanny’s and Shieldaig Bar & Coastal Kitchen just short 12 mile drive), Applecross (Applecross Inn), Gairloch, Ullapool (Delicasea and West Coast Delicatessan). Local walks around the hotel easy to follow with the Torridon trail map to the kitchen garden or circular loop to the boat house and back. Too many breathtaking scenic drives to mention. Needless to say we are already planning our next trip and couldn’t recommend it enough.

Terrible. Really difficult trying to book room. No confirmation. No staff. Broken items in room that were promised to be fixed never happened. Waited ages for food? To be served. Rediculous designer food overpriced, thankfully we had brought sandwich makings!! The only thing that was timely was the bill!! These folk are taking the mickey. Not the place it used to be. Avoid at all costs
