Hotel Villa Hugel

● So many things I loved about this hotel. The front facing staff spoke excellent English. The receptionist walked us to the room since the layout of the hotel is a little confusing. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a king sized bed, a desk, love seat, coffee table, chair with foot rest, TV/cabinet. The best part was the room included a balcony with a table and two chairs and a gorgeous view of Trier and a wonderful tree that created a bit more privacy. The room also included a coffee maker, mini bar, and 4 handcrafted chocolates upon arrival. The bathroom was two parts–the toilet separate from the sinks and showers. In the main bathroom was a large bathtub with herbed bath salt, double sinks, and light-up make up mirror. ● The hotel amenities included pools and sauna and the hotel provided bathrobes, slippers, and extra towels for the use of these amenities. The outdoor forever pool was heated. There were maybe 15 lounge chairs but none were available any of the times we tried to visit the pool so we never stayed there which was a real pity since it had a wonderful view of Trier. Aside from the loungers or in the pool, there was no other space to be at that pool. So instead we enjoyed the heated indoor pool which was a very beautiful setting and no one was using it. At the indoor pool were showers, cubbies, a lounging alcove, and relaxing room. The sauna area was textile free. There is an area to change and shower there along with a relaxing room. There were several sauna rooms including 48 and 90 degree C and a wet sauna at 56C. The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous and well maintained. In front is a glass enclosed gazebo for gathering and beside that is a koi fish pond. At the lowest end of the property is a sunbathing area with grass and gardens and lounge chairs. ● The restaurant and bar were excellent. The bar included a terrace perfect for watching the sunset, lots of comfortable chair and couches. The restaurant included several indoor areas and a terrace. The dinner food was exceptional and the staff very helpful. The drinks were well made. I loved the breakfast buffet–there were even more options than you typically see at a fully stocked European hotel buffet so in addition to the regular items of cereals, cheese and meats including fish, breads and pastries, there was also a Mediterranean section of olives, grape leaves and vegetables. There were many different types of jams, honey, and juices along with several varieties of yogurt, puddings, and mousse. ● The location was in a very nice part neighborhood and on the hill overlooking the city yet only less than a kilometer away from the old city center. Since the hotel is on a hill, it is uphill coming back when you are tired–yet the walking path to and from the old city to the hotel is paved, easy to follow, and has slow steps that are not steep. Best mattress I’ve ever laid on. What’s the brand? Also superb staff, relaxing spa facilities and a nice breakfast. Too bad about the wasps but it’s August what can you do. Word of advice: do look up the parking before going to the hotel, there’s a neighboring hotel nearby which apparently also serves as parking for the villa.

Have not been passing through Trier since 2015 when we last stayed here. Well, they've been working hard in the intervening period. Firstly now there's secure underground car parking with direct access to the lobby, then there's the outdoor pool and lounging area, a few more rooms added and other improvements to the dining area. All done to a high standard and adds to the pleasure of the stay. We dined in the one night we stayed here and dinner was very enjoyable; the buffet breakfast is also extensive and a sight to behold. The hotel also has fairly easy access to the historic parts of the city (a bit of climb back up to the hotel) - about a 15 min walk each way.

A very good hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Evening dinner very good served by a very attentive but not overbearing staff. Comfortable and quiet rooms. Pool indoors and outdoors clean and well maintained. Saunas and wellness areas impeccable. Hotel location within 15 mins walk of town centre. Not cheap, but good price quality ratio.

Only stayed the one night as it was a last minute booking due to a change in plans. When drawing up you sense that it is going to be a good stay and this was reinforced with a very pleasant reception and a tour of the hotel on the way to our room by a most helpful young lady. Coffee and cake on the terrace and a visit to the spa settled us in. The restaurant was closed so cannot comment on the food other than that the cake and breakfast were top drawer! 10 mins away from the town centre this is a little oasis with a splendid open air infinity pool with views to die for. Can highly recommend this if you are in the area.

Having stayed here for two single nights before, we wondered if it would be to the same standard as on our two other visits, if it is possible it was even better. We were able to extend our five nights to six, to cover covid restrictions back in the UK, and from that point it went like a dream. We were able to have half board at a very reasonable rate, which included cake and coffee in the afternoon, and a three course meal in the evening, with three excellent choices for the first two courses. The hotel is in a quiet area,, spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds, and a very convenient hotel garage. But above all it is the staff who make a visit here so special, nothing was too much trouble, and requests were always carried out with what we were sure was a smile under their masks. The welcome to all from the lady owner, is what puts this hotel at the very top of German hospitality, we do hope to be able to return again and be pampered.

I was blown away by the professionality of all the staff in this lovely hotel. Everything is just perfect, the rooms, the staff, the food, the atmosphere, the surroundings. The whole property is extremely clean. Felt completely spoilt during our stay and hope to return many more times in the near future! There are two pools, one indoor, one outdoor put with a good temperature. You can enjoy coffee or tea to start the day in the morning, cups and hot drinks to be found poolside. Reception staff gave great advice on the highlights closely and further away. Downtown Trier is a 15 minutes walk away Luxemburg can be reached easily by train. Trainstop is a 10 minutes walk away. due to lack of parking space I advice reserving a spot in the hotel's garage. Many thanks for giving us a super stay!
