This is a most attractive Country House and it is clear that the owners and management take pride in what it offers. The hotel is a favourite venue for weddings and must offer excellent photo opportunities in the well-tended gardens. Car parking is easy with many spaces on offer. The hotel is some way out of Troon, so it would need a car to visit the town. Our hotel for the previous two nights could not accommodate us for the extra night we decided at short notice to stay in Troon but kindly arranged for us to go to Lochgreen House Hotel. This willing help between hotels is excellent for visitors. An evening conversation with the receptionist at Lochgreen smoothed out the details and it was a pleasure to meet this lady when we checked in the next afternoon. She was most welcoming and helpful and is a credit to the establishment. We had two rooms. Unfortunately, the porter identified room 3 for single occupancy by our granddaughter and room 6 for my wife and me. We later found out that it should have been the other way round, judging by the number of towels and bathrobes in each room. The afternoon scones and tea and the evening meal were both excellent, as was breakfast. Staff in the bar and restaurant were very friendly. What a pity on checkout, with different staff to the lady who checked us in, that I was not asked, as is usual, 'was everything alright?'. I would gladly have provided feedback which may have been helpful to the hotel. The lighting in room 6 is most unsatisfactory. Everywhere is dull. The bedside lamps do not afford sufficient light to read. The large bathroom lacks light over the basin ... but, for some reason, the bathroom has a holder on the wall for 5 toothbrushes! The deep bath would benefit from having wall handles to assist getting in and out. Room 3 ('Robert Burns') is next to a Ladies' toilet which was frequently used and kept my granddaughter awake. I would have thought that all bedrooms would be ensuite, so who was using that toilet? Is it the many wedding guests who decided to venture up to the first floor from the designated wedding area ... or was it staff? It's a mystery. The hotel would benefit from having an indoor swimming pool, as The Marine Hotel has, but that is not necessary for a most enjoyable experience, when the staff and the food are so good.. In summary, this is a great hotel and I would return. But, I would not want to be in rooms 3 or 6 again.
