Watal Tulum Hotel

I absolutely loved staying at Watal & Copal Tulum I love how it’s in a central location only a few blocks from the main downtown area & yet close to beaches & the beach side clubs & restaurants as well. Very clean, staff is incredible super friendly and helpful & sweet! There are several pools & areas to eat & drink and the music & food was incredible! Literally everything I ate was delicious! I loved the rooms, views, service and hospitality! I celebrated my birthday there and couldn’t have been happier! I highly recommend booking a visit & I definitely plan to return! Felt like home away from home! They have fresh water with cucumbers in lobby at all times, and the pool was so relaxing and great for laps too! I loved the Copal and as soon as I arrived felt very relaxed, exactly what I needed. Highly recommend the restaurant there too! Amazing sushi & cocktails and again, the music was soooo good! It’s definitely a vibe! You can rent bicycles which I recommend and go into town it’s super close and convenient!

Pros: The hotel itself is actually amazing. We had one of the most basic rooms, which provided everything we needed included a fridge. Enough space. Taxis always available outside. Cons: The staffing was just basically non existent. We were there for over a week and we were not told once that we could access the hotel next door for all their amenities including the pool! On check in the lady read out the price of our room and informed us that we had booked our room via booking. Non of which was needed to be read out or made any sense. We should have been told about the amenities next door! When we found out you can imagine how disappointed we were finding out on our final day. There were ample opportunities for them to inform us but they didn’t. Including when I asked for the pool location, I spoke with 2 people. One person said there was 2 pools and the other said something to him in Spanish and proceeded to inform me that the only pool available is in the hotel. When we asked for water at the front desk we were told they don’t offer that at this hotel and we had to walk to the nearest shop which is about 10 mins away. Only to discover our neighbour receiving room service with a meal and drink the following day! By the way we weren’t informed that we can have room service delivered from next door either. These are the kind of things we expect to be told on check in? Daily room cleaned: our room was NEVER cleaned to the same standard everyday unless we tipped, room was left with rubbish in it and never replaced with water except on one occasion.When we left a big tip the room was cleaned immaculately and we were left with 2 bottles of water! You can imagine our confusion. The bikes are no longer free as one reviewer previously stated. $12usd a day. Tips: Use the hotel next door. The staff there are also more friendly and more helpful! The hotel next door is also really stunning and a great vibe. It will also lead you to the cenote which is free for everyone. Make sure you lock your door as you share the same door number with a room next door. We frequently had someone trying to come into our room due to this confusion. Always ask for the price of the taxi before you enter. Prices always vary.

AMAZING!! I extended my trip several times and stayed in 3 types of rooms. My favorite was 203, the balcony was private and felt like a jungle treehouse. The two level penthouse 309 is incredible, sunset views and nice to enjoy with friends traveling together. The beds and pillows are SO COMFORTABLE!! Full kitchens, incredible square footage, huge terraces and lush jungle setting give you the privacy and peace…before the party or just plain pausing to enjoy. Family travelers would find this hotel especially wonderful. A quick 7 minute walk gets you groceries and a lovely selection of restaurants. Totem for Italian is a MUST!! The food at both restaurants in Copal next door is fantastic. This is 20+ minutes from the party beach scene so get a car of pay $40US each way for a taxi. Speaking of money BRING CASH!!! No ATM nearby. 20 minutes walk or taxi needed. Bikes can be rented and it’s a great way to get around. The manager Andres exceeded my expectations for service and attention to detail. He quickly responded to any question or concern I had. Franco and Valentina at reception always had a smile and were very helpful with everything a guest could need. Lionel can’t go without mention…he was such a hard worker.
