Good central location in downtown Vancouver. Walkable distance from Stanley Park, Canada Place, and Gastown. Historic old house with many character features and unique rooms. Very good breakfast, with both hot and cold items. Although we arrived late, there was a decanter of dessert wine and snack items in the kitchen from which to help ourselves. Very accommodating hostess allowed us to leave our suitcases after check-out to pick up later. On the negative side, the property is showing its age. The wall-to-wall carpeting really should be removed and/or replaced - the pattern is completely worn off in traffic lanes but can be seen around the edges, under beds, etc. - looks old! No air conditioning, and we stayed on a rather warm early summer night.

O Canada House is the perfect choice for a "pre-cruise" stay in Vancouver! The accommodations are lovely, the staff gracious, and the location is perfect! We had a delicious Indian dinner at India Ltd, and a wonderful french dinner at La Brassiere. Both are within walking distance of O Canada House. We were able to see the Matisse exhibit at the Vancouver Art Museum, and visit the world class Vancouver Aquarium. Don't look any farther, this is a great choice!

The Property is in a great location to explore downtown, easily walkable to the main shopping areas and amenities. The house itself has loads of character and could be amazing with some investment which it surely needs. Although we had a good time in Vancouver the accommodation disappointed from the minute we entered the door and I was really tempted to check-out straightaway and take the hit of paying for something new but for only 3 nights we were too tired to be bothered, it was a close thing! The issues were: #1 The smell was overpowering, it was a strong musty smell that was nauseating and I suspect this was a scented candle device in the lounge. It was not nice and I think the recent hot weather and closed windows made it impossible to breath. Only after leaving the windows open for our stay did it go in the room. #2 I realise period means old but it doesn't mean dangerous, the sash window in our bathroom (nice btw) fell to pieces when I opened it and there was a glass pane just hanging above me. Notified house keeper. #3 Carpet in public areas and bedroom. This was well worn and needed replacing, simple fix. #4 Breakfast, as previously mentioned very limited window for breakfast and it really wasn't worth waiting for, poor choice and delivered without any love or care. Walk 4mins to Paul's and have a fantastic breakfast.

This was our second stay at O Canada House. The first was 13 years ago and - whilst this time the stay was still great, clean and comfortable - I’m glad we returned, although the place is not what it was! The carpets are really worn throughout and stained, the plastic on the toilet seat in our en-suite was pealing off and much of the furniture is a bit rickety. That said … it was very clean, the breakfast was absolutely lovely, the complimentary drinks and snacks were very welcome, and the staff are super friendly. Free parking is a huge bonus and the location is excellent - a quaint sanctuary in a central, safe and clean location. We had two rooms - the penthouse and the ground floor master suite. O’Canada doesn’t need a lot of money spending on it to bring it back to a 5* review and I think hands down beats a stay in a hotel. We had a fabulous time.

First, the positives: great location, lovely day time staff. You will be walking distance to just about all the sites you want in Vancouver if you stay at O Canada. The day time staff were really lovely and kind. They stored our bags for a late departure, left very good instructions for a late arrival, no complaints there. The decor is tired and old. We booked two rooms (we were in the Master Suite on the ground floor and the Penthouse, despite booking 8 months in advance and asking to be on the upper floor to be closer to our kids on the top floor), one with A/C, the other without. The one without (Master Suite) was fine the first night, sweltering the remaining two. A standing fan in the room was insufficient and cut out if you went above 2nd speed. Bathroom is one step above a hostel bathroom with a 1970s spigot, no working fan either and the beds were saggy. For what we paid, this hotel really could use some sprucing up. Perhaps the other rooms are better. The master suite was not great. The Penthouse was better. The evening staff person had a 1 1/2 hour personal phone call on speakerphone reverberating throughout the house. We couldn't enjoy the common area at all because of her loud, lengthy conversation. Not the sort of B&B experience we've come to expect. A quibble about the breakfast. You have to pre-order which is totally fine, but the one day when we really needed to leave early, the breakfast didn't come to us for 45 minutes after sitting. It threw off our visit to the suspension bridge, putting us on a bus an hour later than desired and we were stuck with huge crowds. We ended up not even having the breakfast at the hotel the next day as we didn't want to have a repeat...we far preferred our wonderful coffee and breakfast at 49 parallel roasters, which I recommend too. All in all, would we do it again? If you get a spruced up room, perhaps. If you are visiting outside of the hotter times of year, sure. But avoid the master suite and if you have plans that are on the early side, make sure to let them know that you are hoping for an on time breakfast.

Absolutely fabulous place to stay while visiting Vancouver! Warm welcome, home cooking and very friendly hosts all added to our great experience staying at this special, historic house. Location is very convenient, and our room was really comfortable. We will be back, and will also recommend it to all our travelling friends!

What a charming guesthouse! Fantastic location, just a 2 minute walk from all the local amenities. Our room had a four poster bed and a huge bathroom. Breakfast here was wonderful. You were asked to let them know the day before what you would like and it was all cooked fresh for you. We had coffee in the lounge after breakfast which was very relaxing. The lady who served our breakfast (and I think she also cleaned our room) was very friendly and helpful. We hired some bicycles and cycled around Stanley Park which is a must do. Would definitely recommend and return

It's true, the house and furnishings are dated but their hospitality is second to none. We arrived quite early and our room was cleaned and ready for us. It was bright, sunny and cheerful inside. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was good and is served to you in their pleasant dining room. If you want something to take on the run or get hungry during the day, just pop into the pantry and help yourself. Everybody who works there is over the top friendly and helpful. The location was not as convenient as I had hoped and thought it would be. If you're not willing to get your steps in, you might need to think twice about staying here.

We loved our stay at the O Canada House. It’s a beautiful gem in a world of modernness of Vancouver. The home is beautiful, clean and historic. The staff was friendly, warm, inviting and helpful. It was also quiet and peaceful. Our room had a king sized bed, large bathroom and the bed was so comfy. Breakfast was yummy and organized. Drinks and snacks available in the kitchen all day long. Cute courtyard in back to relax. Parking was provided which was a huge stress relief for us. Highly recommend.

WEST Suite: No A/C. Windows face afternoon sun. When we were in Vancouver the city was in an official heat advisory by the Canada Government. The outside temperature was 28 degrees C (82 F). The room felt hotter than outside. The management knew this was going to be an issue before our stay because they informed me that they would be putting a fan in the room. The East Suite has a floor model A/C unit. Not sure why they do not provide the same in the West Room. We stayed one night, and asked for a refund for the 2nd night that we did not stay due to heat We had to spend the evening on the front porch to deal with the heat. It has been 10 days since we emailed them and have no response so far. If the weather was in the low 70s outside I think this room would have been fine but our stay was during a heat wave. The house is a very nice historical building. They provide a nice breakfast with two options, where one is a standard breakfast and the other rotates daily. They have parking which was very secure in a locked area. If it wasn't for the heat issue this would have been a very pleasant stay.
