The Inn at Cedar Grove

Well from all the hype about it being the best hotel around my husband booked a couple of nights during our road trip from Nashville to Memphis to New Orleans thinking of a chill out zone in between the madness.We stayed at the inn at Cedar Grove. The lady that directed us to our accommodation pointed out the ice dispenser but stated not to go at night meanwhile the porter was asleep behind her 🥺 We then moved the car to the stairwell of our accommodation realising no one else was staying there but hey we're on an adventure from the UK.. Well how big and amazing was this room 😁 We went inside to the must smell but living the dream..It was disappointing to say the least although the four poster bed in the back was amazing and comfortable..The bath was chipped and rusty.The toiletries were only available in the shower, The glasses provided still had lipstick on them and as for the rest of the furniture it was old musty in a bad state of repair and needed replacing.. Albeit very negative it was a wonderful location but needs lots of tender loving care

Accommodations: Room # 2, non-ADA pool house brick building. Room is 1 bedroom with 1 Queen bed, INOP fireplace, 2 chairs, coffee stand. Stand in shower with no guide bar, low toilet, no ramp to get through door way for those immobile. You are 5 steps from entering swimming pool with corner water spout gargoyles for a quick dip. (It is not enclosed). Heater is in sufficient during our stay. However, host Kendra, did offer her hospitality to ensure we were warm during a midnight cold spell. Amenities: Coffee maker and mini-fridge. No microwave.no laundry. No gym. No pets. Family cemetary. Lovely house historical tour after breakfast is offered. Accessibility & Logistics: For travelers navigating with mobility aids (manual or motorized wheelchairs), this property offers limited accessibility and no elevators. Parking lot is uneven in spots. Narrow doorways. Parking: The property offers limited secured self-parking. Parking lot is slightly uneven. Taxes: MS tax, Vicksburg tax, hospitality fee. Dining & Service: Delicious complimentary hot breakfast. Additional cost for bar, lunch and dinner. Final note: 1856 Property is in remodeling and upkeep during our stay. That didn't shy us away. There is a remarkable 2 civil war cannon balls that lodged itself one into wall and the other in the floor space down to basement. For disabled who can do short walks, this is still ideal to visit. I'm oblivious to any spooks.

Definitely not what we expected from the beautiful pics of the property online. Unfortunately we were in the annexe and therefore didn’t get to stay in the main house which is what we had wanted. The kitchen and bar were closing at 8pm so dinner and drinks wasn’t an option so had to drive downtown (told we shouldn’t walk). Ladies servicing breakfast were very friendly.

The Inn at Cedar Grove was a beautiful place to stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The owner greeted us at dinner and was very nice. The room was fantastic. We got to stay in the Grant Suite, so the history speaks for itself. The room and the bed were very comfortable.

Vicksburg is all about the Civil War and you couldn’t ask for a better place than the Inn at Cedar Grove. Meals were excellent and the Staff were attentive. The Inn could use further renovations but not a huge issue given its age and use. Lots of history within the Inn itself.

If you’re excited about staying at a historical place this is it. If you want a clean room and comfortable bed this is definitely not it. Not worth the price. Just visit to see it.

Staff was excellent. Facilities where clean and well maintained. We stayed in the room next to the pool. Voices could be heard in the room next door because of connection through air vents. Was not a problem for us but might be for others.

This 1840 mansion is beautiful. We stayed in the Grant Suite where 70% of the furnishings were original. It sent shivers up my spine to know we slept in General Ulysses Grant's bed. I wish we had been there for a meal. The dining room and menu were inviting. All was perfect except the entry. They need to make it a little wider. It's on a hill and hard to see the driveway over the crest, especially after dark.
