Location: 5 Star. Excellent! Atmosphere: Brilliant. I was made comfortable from Check-in to Check-out! Rooms: Clean and well maintained. No Aircon though. Summer can be unbearably hot. Value: Quite affordable. The breakfast menu could benefit from variety. NB: Someone insistently knocked twice (Mon&Tue) on my door (105) at ungodly hours of the night, trying to open it on Monday especially. I wonder if there was a problem or it was simply a case of lost/misdirected guest who forgot their room number. The knockee did not communicate the purpose of their very late door abraison and of course, I dared not open! Dank sei Gott for the additional lock system. Hope CCTV can solve the mystery.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is clean, tidy, and everything is in good working order. It is also very close to the city centre, with shops, cafés and a pizzeria nearby. If you enjoy walking, the city centre is about a 15-minute easy walk away. Of course, there are a few drawbacks, as there are everywhere, and none of them are major. However, I would like to point them out in a friendly and constructive way. Considering that this is a hotel chain, I would really appreciate having a kettle in the room, as this has gradually become both a standard and a necessity for many guests. I was also surprised that, to this day, the hotel has not considered installing air conditioning, with a fan being provided to guests instead. What made me happy, however, is that the hotel is currently undergoing renovation, so I hope that some of these suggestions will be taken into consideration. I still believe that this hotel is definitely worth recommending, and I would genuinely recommend it. Despite these minor shortcomings, you simply will not find this kind of price in beautiful Vienna. If I come to Vienna again, I will certainly stay at this hotel once more.

This is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are clean and functional, reception and check-in/out is efficient, and I love staying in these hostels with my family. They are all the good stuff and none of the bad bits that you would expect from staying in a hostel in your mid-40s!! Friendly fellow guests, buzzing atmosphere, lots more freedom than a traditional hotel, and the best part is how all sorts of people and groups stay and mingle. I love it here! I can't comment on the kitchen/common areas because they were in the middle of a major renovation whilst we were there. I will say that the temporary breakfast area was lovely. It felt really cute and like the staff had really made an effort to make if feel welcoming and friendly. In terms of the local area - it is slightly away from the city centre, but it is only a 10 minute walk to Taborstrase and Schottenring underground stations, it's 2 mins from several supermarkets, pizza takeaways, restaurants, and the bars and restaurants of Leopoldsgasse. Finally, I must make a big should out to Emilio from reception. Basically, I made a huge booboo with my booking - and we were facing being left bedless for 3 nights in Vienna at the end of July with two children... And he made a gargantuan effort, above and beyond what he needed to do, to get us booked into his hostel, and their sister property just down the road - helping us with luggage storage, booking logistics, optioneering, and all sorts. He was an absolute saviour, and one of the reasons we will always prioritise Meininger hostels when staying in Europe with my family :-)

We came to Vienna to experience the city and its Christmas markets. To be honest, ChatGPT recommended this hotel as a great, budget-friendly choice. We arrived on Wednesday night and immediately struggled: the room was unbearably hot, with the heating on full blast. (To be fair, we encountered this in several places across the city — restaurants, cafés, even some shops — but it was especially overwhelming in the room.) The room itself looked basic but clean. As we usually stay in Airbnbs, our initial impression wasn’t terrible. The problems started when we realised that, despite being called a hotel, they couldn’t provide basic items such as extra towels or pillows — and the pillows they did have were the worst I’ve ever used: flat, lumpy, and completely unsupportive. We were exhausted, so we went straight to bed, not realising that the sofa-bed (the third bed they charged us for) was completely unusable. It doesn’t lie flat and is as hard as stone. The main beds weren’t much better: small, uncomfortable, and you can feel the springs poking into your body. In all honesty, I have barely slept for four nights. The rooms are also quite noisy. Not constantly, but you can hear students partying until at least midnight. To add to it, the TV is tiny, and when the remote stopped working the receptionist told us they didn’t have any spare batteries. All in all, if you’re looking for a hostel-type experience and you’re a young student, this place might be fine. But as a family being charged nearly €800 for four nights, an Airbnb would have made far more sense.

We book one night stay in Wien in their Sissi hotel. We found the room with the blinds broken (the blinds were completly down and could not be pulled up) and when we went to the reception with hopes of finding a solution we were treated very badly underlining that the receptionist only works there and can not help with the problems of the hotel ?!?! Silly me i thought that helping customers with their problems was part of her job (the receptions working @ 8 pm on the 23rd of august 2025). Not to mention that one towel seamed used.

We stayed here for Eras Tour in Vienna, obviously it was cancelled, but we were already there when it happened. Ride from airport via Uber was maybe 40 minutes. Hostel is on the other side of the river; and not too much around it so we walked across the river and into the 'downtown' area daily for food or to socialize. Check-in staff was helpful; we got there early and no rooms cleaned and available yet, so we used their luggage storage room to store bags, freshen up and head out for the day. We had a private room; two beds with private bathroom. It really felt like a hotel with the privacy. Small closet to hang a few items (4-5) and a couple shelves to put items on. Otherwise we had one luggage on the desk, and the other on the floor. Room had a fan on the desktop we'd keep on in the windowsill area. Bathroom was adequate but small; no counter space for a curling iron. We typically got ready, one in the bathroom and the other in the entry way at the mirror. Plugs were hard to come by; had to charge phone at the entrance. We never used the resturant or public areas.

I can’t find enough words to express our disappointment and disgust to reflect our experience. We booked a group stay for 25 people minimum 3-4 months prior to our arrival. We were contacted by several people with several different and contrasting information, after which I sent a rough complaint email to which we received a response from the group sales dept saying that everything is arranged and confirmed! We arrived 9.00 am on the day and the receptionists had no idea what rooms were assigned to us. The receptionist tried his best to arrange the rooms last minute and we were told the checkin is at 3 pm. We arrived around 3.30-3.45 and the group (underaged children) finally received their rooms. Some of the rooms were drastically untidy, uncleaned, alcohol around, 18+ things, anti hygienic. 2 rooms were occupied by other people who were surprised when our kids opened the rooms. Absolute chaos, we had to rearrange the rooms with the evening shift receptionist. 1 room had mould over the bathroom rook. On the next day, at around 11 the cleaner opened the room and said it’s time to check out. She was talking to me while vaguely chewing a gum and blowing bubbles meanwhile. The worst experience ever! I have the feeling that this hotel has not got any administration and the employees have to make decisions on their own! Very disappointing!
Response from Property: Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you appreciated our friendly staff and affordable pricing. We apologize for any inconvenience regarding the location, cleanliness, and the lack of air conditioning. Your comments help us improve, and we hope to offer you a more comfortable stay next time! Best Regards, MEININGER Downtown Sissi

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this hotel. The dinner provided was of such poor quality that none of us in our group could eat it. Additionally, the receptionist not only failed to offer any solution but also displayed completely unacceptable behavior, even going so far as to tell us multiple times to go back to our own country. I want to highlight the lack of respect and poor hospitality demonstrated by the staff. I strongly advise against anyone seeking even a modicum of courtesy and quality in the services offered to avoid this hotel.
Response from Property: Dear Guest, We regret that you did not have a good experience at our hotel. Unfortunately, we are aware of the incident you are talking about. Our team always tries to do its best to provide our guests with a good stay like thousands of reviews can reflect. Unfortunately, the incident is much more profound and we are in contact with your tour operator. Neither side will tolerate such behavior and we will work to ensure it never happens again. Please feel free to contact us directly for a more detailed explanation. With kind regards, Your MEININGER Team Sissi

One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. Extremely spartan rooms, some dirty and with an unpleasant smell. Broken blinds, saggy mattresses, mold in the shower, and significant damage to the furnishings. The benches in the breakfast room were worn out. Breakfast is best avoided. Soggy toast and no toaster, the cold cuts and spreads were gray and stale, the juice from the dispenser was undrinkable, and the selection was very limited – better to go to the coffee shop around the corner. When we subtly mentioned this at reception, we were immediately brushed aside with the explanation, "You won't find anything better in Vienna for that price." Drinks from the vending machine in the lobby were outrageously overpriced.

The hotel is reasonably priced but not in the city center. You have to walk about 20 minutes to get to the town hall. It's not very clean... The pillow I got was ridiculously soft; it felt like you didn't have a pillow at all. They don't have air conditioning. They have a fan that does absolutely nothing at 39 degrees. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is average.

Despite your page raising high expectations, they unfortunately weren't met. Our room wasn't particularly clean. The bathroom hadn't been thoroughly cleaned, and there were also several stains on the wall and the frame of the bunk bed. Furthermore, the tables at breakfast were absolutely filthy. When another guest left, the table wasn't wiped, leaving it dirty and covered in crumbs, as you had to clear your own plate. A group meal was included in our stay, and it wasn't particularly appetizing. It was also a shame that there wasn't a sign stating exactly what the food was, as we had to accommodate some vegetarians and allergies. When we asked about gluten-free options, we were told rather rudely that they had already been mentioned, while we were just trying to play it safe. I do think it's important to mention that the staff were otherwise very friendly and helpful! Unfortunately, it didn't make the overall experience good enough.

I went there on a school trip. Rude staff, constantly annoyed by our presence. I am celiac and not only did they not provide me with anything to eat, but they did not even try to solve the problem in some way, in fact I had to order something online. As for the others at the buffet, however, there was absolutely no choice, few things and not at all good. Cleaning of the rooms almost decent. If I were to return to Vienna I would definitely not go to this hotel.

The hotel has very attentive reception staff, but its weak point is cleanliness. Upon arrival, the room was covered in dust under the nightstand. It remained there for a week. They only cleaned the bathroom and made the beds. Every morning we had to remind them to clean our room. The breakfast was also very limited. The location was good; you can walk to the center in 20 minutes. The hotel was quiet.

PLUS: convenient location in a quiet area (2nd district); two metro stations within a 15-minute walk; 24/7 reception; kitchen available for guests including an electric hob with oven, fridge, kettle, cutlery, pans and pots; clean rooms with daily cleaning and free towels; elevator in the hotel; card payments only; MINUS: paid luggage storage operated by an external website; luggage storage too expensive;
