Beautiful setting and nice hotel. Signage everywhere encouraging social distancing, claiming rigorous cleaning standards and assuring guests that their comfort and safety are paramount. But even if the public health concern is mainly for show, the hotel surely cares about its reputation and bottom line. So having an unmasked staff member act rudely confrontational towards a guest is BAD business. Look, I don’t care if you don’t want to (or don’t have to) wear a mask, and I’m not interested in debating your entitlement to put yourself and other people at risk, or whether you think you know better than the CDC. But don’t invade my personal space as though you want to provoke me and then say, ‘I don’t have the plague!’ in a condescending snarky way when I step back to maintain proper social distancing. And then don’t cop an even bigger attitude when I observe, ‘I’m just surprised you’re not masked.’ All the other staff I can see are. Most of your guests are. Most people in public places are. I am. I just drove 2000 miles across the country to visit elderly parents with health issues. And most people from Tennessee and Arkansas to Oklahoma and New Mexico were masked in public, especially those working in hotels that claim to care about guests’ comfort and safety during a pandemic. We are in one of the worst hot spots in the world and I’m paying over $230 a night for this room. Is this official Holiday Inn Express policy? To have staff not wearing masks bully guests about it? Wherever you stand on pandemic public health politics, masks or no masks, at least treat your guests with respect. NB: On my way out I saw a sign indicating masks will be mandatory starting July 27. I guess this guy just had to make his point before he was forced to do the responsible thing. I also appreciated the far nicer and more reasonable (masked and gloved) staff member at the desk on checkout who agreed that no one should be treated so poorly by one of their employees.

We were already warned that this was a time share hustle (from reading TripAdvisor reviews) and not a regular hotel before we got here. No problem, I can dodge a sales pitch as good as anyone, so I booked the room through the TripAdvisor web site and was instantly routed to another third party booking site called “Cancelon” who did the actual booking. When we arrived at this property’s front desk we were told that we would also be paying an additional $16.00 hotel/resort fee. I explained to the girl that the third party booking site (Cancelon) we had booked through said the fee was only supposed to be $13.00, she basically told me I needed to prove that (as if I were lying about $3.00). I attempted to log into their wi-fi while standing there at their front desk, but their wi-fi would not work. All the while the girl behind the desk stood there grinning at our perplexing dilemma as if she was full aware of their non-existent “wi-fi”. Of course I had no way of proving that while standing there at the front desk, and at that point we simply wanted to get checked in, so we agreed to pay this additional charge. We were then told that even though the room was already paid for (and they already had my credit card number), they were going place an additional $100.00 hold on my card as a “security deposit”. That is something I have never seen any hotel do unless the guest was paying in cash (or unless the hotel was a dive) in my 50+ years of staying in hotels. But once again after traveling all day we just wanted to get to our room and felt that we were at their mercy. After finally being checked in and told to go to the concierge’s desk (where they will attempt to hustle you into buying a time share), we skipped the concierge’s desk and went straight to our room. When we finally arrived at our room we discovered we were given a room that faced their swimming pool and not a room with a view as I had requested. We also discovered there was no elevator and had to lug a considerable amount of luggage up a very narrow set of stairs, across a breezeway, and down a hall to get to our room. As we were walking down the hall we noticed a very strong odor that smelled like bug spray. When we entered the room we immediately noticed one of the drapes had a large rip in it about a foot long, one of the ceramic tiles on the floor had a very large crack in it, and the floor strip between the ceramic tile and carpeting was broken. At that point we were worried the hotel might try and charge us for this damage (since they had put a hold on my credit card as a security deposit) and so we immediately took photos of these items that included a time stamp. The water pressure in the shower was so low that half of the jets in the shower head had no water coming out of them. We just returned from a five night stay at the Views Inn. First off, please be advised the the Views Inn is not actually in Sedona but in The Village of Oak Creek which is roughly 6 miles from Sedona. That out of the way, the property has many attributes that make it an excellent choice for a visit to Sedona. 1) Good price. We searched many properties prior to selecting Views Inn. They were all more expensive, sometimes twice the price. If you’re looking for luxury, this is not the place. If you’re looking for an inexpensive yet comfortable motel, this place fits the bill. 2) Location. Although not in Sedona near all the historic areas and shopping, it is very near to Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock as well as other trails. There are also several good restaurants and even some shops nearby. It is also easier for access and parking. The drive into Sedona proper is also very beautiful. 3) Clean and Comfortable. The room was extremely clean and the bed comfortable. The room included a refrigerator and microwave which came in very handy. There is a good television but only one arm chair. In the evening, I sat in the desk chair while my husband had the arm chair. Two arm chairs or a small love seat would have been preferable. Water pressure and hot water in the shower were good. There is also an iron, ironing board, desk and a dresser (although the drawers were a bit too shallow). A pod type coffee maker was also in the bathroom vanity area but we moved to to the desk as there is nowhere to plug it in where it was. Coffee from the pod maker was meh so we got coffee from the breakfast room. 4) Staff. The staff at the reception, cleaning crew and breakfast room were all friendly, professional and helpful. There are a few negatives but nothing that detracted too much from our enjoyment. 1) Breakfast. Breakfast is served in a converted room on the first floor. Seating is adequate and a staff member is always there to assist. Selection is extremely poor. The food was corn flakes, toast, prepackaged bagels, apples, bananas, oat meal packets, yogurt, juice , hard boiled eggs, cinnamon rolls cut in half and one waffle maker. The problem is selection. Instead of just corn flakes perhaps three or four different types of cereal. Instead a halved cinnamon rolls maybe a selection of pastries. Instead of apples and bananas, maybe add some oranges or pears. It would be great if hot items could be added like French toast sticks or scrambled eggs but I realize there might not be that capability. Still a bit more selection would help. We tried the breakfast only once over five days and determined we were better off just getting various fruits at the grocery store and using the breakfast room only for coffee. 2). Closets. There are none. There is a place to hang clothes in the area of the vanity and sink. It is limited and everything hangs in sight. Adobe Village exceeded all expectations. My wife and I stayed in the Purple Lizard room from 1/30-2/2 and it was outstanding. The check-in process was super smooth and both Samantha and Teresa provided outstanding service all weekend. The rooms were spotless, the bed was super comfortable and the Hot Tub by the fireplace was amazing after long days of Hiking. They also serve a healthy hot breakfast between 8-9am which provides ample energy for a day of activity. We met the owner Ron at breakfast one morning and he was an extremely gracious host. Their location is perfect (Away from the heavy tourist crowd in downtown Sedona) but within walking distance to trails. Excellent food options as well within 2 miles of the property. We absolutely loved this place and it felt like a home away from home for our short visit. We will definately be coming back again.
