Lime Tree Lodge

Wanaka|7.08km from city center
After reviewing other reports on Tripadvisor, it seems that Lime Tree Lodge has experienced a rapid decline over the past few months. From the beginning, our arrival was less than ideal. No staff members were present, and we overheard heated arguments in the neighboring room. Even after attempting to get attention by shouting ”hello,” there was no response, and the doorbell to call reception appeared to be disabled. Only after reaching out to their main phone number did Kris, who identified himself as the duty manager, guided us to a large and attractively decorated suite. The suite included a spacious master bedroom, a separate second bedroom, and a large living- dining area leading to a patio. There was a big bathroom, but stains were visible in the bathtub. Kris provided a brief introduction before leaving for his day off at 5 pm. We tried to make ourselves at home, taking advantage of the complimentary wine and visiting the pool area. However, we encountered challenges, such as removing the cover of the hot tub independently, and a pool robot that made swimming nearly impossible due to its disruptive hose. The pool furniture was visibly dirty, indicating a lack of proper cleaning for an extended period. Shortly after our arrival at the pool, Jacqui approached us and greeted us by shouting, ”no glasses by the pool.” While the rule makes sense, a more welcoming approach would have been appreciated. As we had an early morning excursion planned, Jacqui kindly offered to serve breakfast on our patio, which we accepted. The breakfast was served on time but was unremarkable. Upon returning in the evening, we discovered that our room had not been cleaned, and the breakfast tray remained on the patio table. No staff members were visible anywhere on the property, and attempts to reach Jacqui were unsuccessful. Eventually, she emerged from the vegetation, claiming she had ”fallen asleep” and providing a series of excuses for the lack of service. It was evident that she was intoxicated. After contacting my agent, who escalated the issue to a person named Nick overseeing the property from China (a quite impossible task in my opinion), Kris returned from his day off, and the intoxicated Jacqui was replaced. The description in my itinerary stating, ”Lime Tree Lodge is a luxury, boutique-style lodge with a personal touch by the fantastic owners & staff,” couldn't be further from the truth. There is no owner on site, and the two staff members present seemed incapable of managing the lodge effectively. In conclusion, I would advise avoiding this place unless you are willing to handle self-catering and manage the lodge independently. If you excel at it, you might even be considered for a role by the mysterious Nick.

So, we didn't *not* enjoy staying here, but there were pros and cons, I guess. We have tried to outline them below:   The pros: - The location is pretty good, and is walking distance to the centre of the town - The upstairs units have hill views - The apartments themselves are top notch, with a luxurious feel and a full-sized kitchen and lounge in the larger units   The cons: - The cleaning could have been better (there was enough dust to write my name in the spare room and at the back of the bedside tables in the main room. I think if you want confidence in where you stay, during these COVID times, then perhaps just an extra couple of minutes spent would have been worthwhile - The washing machine was mouldy, so again, a bit of attention cleaning-wise would have resolved this as well - We stayed for four days and never had a car park, so had to park on the street. Perhaps labelling them with unit numbers might help? - A lot of the furniture was in very poor condition: it let the place down a lot because it was as if a rich person had built the apartments and then a poor student had furnished it (this is more of a management thing, I guess) - Oddly, there was no soap or body wash for the shower (we had to go and buy some). Given that there was soap for the bathroom sink and dishwashing liquid for the kitchen (and flannels to wash with), it seemed strange that there were no soap products in the shower, again lending to the feel that it was being managed by broke students - It would have been so wonderful to have more than one towel each (again, the broke students thing) - It would have been nice if we could have had the apartment we asked for and told could be made available (better to under promise and over deliver than the opposite, even if we couldn't get into the apartment we wanted) - again, a management thing   I was a bit of an odd stay. Things seemed polar opposite - some things were super luxurious and other things just seemed cheap. Overall the apartments were beautiful, and of high quality. But one side of the property looks out over the toilets in the campground, and the management of the place seemed to let things down but dropping the quality of the stay down a notch or two. While it's really comfortable, I guess it's a difficult industry to be in at the moment, and perhaps they're looking to cut costs.

Distinction Wanaka Alpine Resort
4.4/543 Reviews
This is a townhouse-style resort overlooking the lake and mountains. Scenery was lovely. The unit was decent enough although it did not have a heat pump or fixed panel heaters in the bedrooms, and only one oil heater for the unit, so keeping warm overnight was a bit tricky. The upstairs unit did have a heat pump but unfortunately the unit was located right next to the bedroom and was a bit noisy overnight. However the unit was clean, spacious, everything worked as advertised and the cooking facilities were very handy. Location is pretty good as well and within walking distance of the town centre (about a 15 minute walk, and there are hill tracks involved).

The breakfast is included. The room is small but it has a balcony, that is wonderful. everything is ok.thanks.
Bella Vista Motel Lake Wanaka
4.2/547 Reviews
There is nothing wrong with the motel, but it is too expensive. The price is very low, bitkapo and Queenstown are expensive. What is this ghost? Everything else is in the middle of the law without surprises or bad. So it is too expensive to accept.

Fairway Motel & Apartments
4.3/580 Reviews
This was a last minute decision to stop over at Wanaka. After a brief search, we found the Fairway Motel, called in and after a brief chat with the owner, we were settled in a very nice cosy unit. The unit has been brought right up to standard with a lovely new shower and bathroom. Some thought had been given to restocking the rooms well too and everything that we wanted was there in the unit. (unit 1 ) Great utensils for cooking too, appeared to be very new. A very comfortable Kingsize bed was a feature and after a solid drive, it was nice to relax and to get a good nights sleep. Outside, there was a small terrace which was nice and not a bad spot to put some washing out to dry out in the sun. I spoke to the owners, a young couple living there with their three children and they have been renovating the rooms as and when they could afford to. These were a solid young Kiwi Family, trying to get ahead and working their butts off to build their business. We wish them all the best as they deserve to do well. When we get back to Wanaka again, we will be staying at the Fairway Motel at Wanaka.
Wanaka Top 10 Holiday Park
4.5/556 Reviews
The family of three ordered two bedrooms. The advantage is that the house has a large living room, a large lawn behind the door, and a small slide next to it. It is very good for parking. The disadvantage is that as soon as you enter the master bedroom, a foreign body smell disappears when you open the window. In addition, there is a distance from the lakeside, and it is uphill, farther from the town. Comprehensive: Fair and reasonable holiday hotel.
