This is the cheapest accommodation you can find in Central Otago. The location is by the lake, and the car can be parked in front of the room. The room has 1 double bed, 1 single bed and 1 bunk bed, which can sleep 5 people. There is a refrigerator and a kettle, but there is no water pipe in the room. You have to go out to fetch water, which is a bit unchanged. After working hours, an envelope will be left on the side of the office telling you which room you live in and the password for the key box.

Undoubtedly an amazing location and with a bit of renovation this really would be a Wonderland. We stayed in a standard winged chalet, built in the 1970s. Best described as rustic and well used. The carpet has seen better days, the toilet flush is over enthusiastic with water jetting over the bowl, and the kitchen taps don’t quite reach properly over the sink. The fridge hadn’t been cleaned properly with crusts of spilt milk. However, the bed linen and towels were spotlessly white and new. The shower in the chalet was good. Although there was no wifi in the chalets, the free wifi in the shared kitchen and in the main lodge worked well. The bar and restaurant area were nice and had good coffee. Having said all this, we did enjoy our stay here and as long as you manage your expectations you will too.
