The Bird in Hand Inn, Witney

When you come to the UK, you will always want to live in the country. Seeing that this one has a good rating on Ctrip, the price is also right, so I booked it for two nights. The rooms and meals are all satisfied, and the surrounding fields are large fields. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Breakfast is not only a self-service part, but also freshly-made options, which are of a high standard. Dinner for two days is also done here, because you have to drive out to find food around. It is not far from Oxford, and several villages in cotswolds are within a half-hour driving distance. The only network is not stable, some villages have no signal. Nine pictures are really not enough, will you be heart-warming if you read them?

Stayed in the shepherds hut for our anniversary and had an absolutely lovely time. It was perfect for autumn, winter snug (in a good way) well furnished and with a log fire. I imagine it would be lovely in summer too as it opens on to the garden. The staff could not have been nicer, Sorin, Gavin and the lovely lady that did housekeeping (didn't catch her name) made us feel so welcome and relaxed. Before we even got there they were super prompt answering questions via email and were happy to help with anything we asked when we arrived. I honestly couldn't have asked for a nicer stay. Thoroughly recommend!

Stayed here for 3 nights. Our room was small but very cosy and warm The restaurant and bar area was clean and welcoming with lots of historical features. Pianist in reception area was a pleasant surprise. They had good selection of gluten free options in restaurant and the food was tasty . Staff are all friendly and we will definitely stay here again

I can't fault the meal, although felt it was more expensive than it needed to be.The staff were excellent & the service was exemplary. The room however had a few issues. The toilet roll holder had come loose & was almost hanging off the wall.I managed to tighten it enough with my fingers for it to work properly.A bolt on one of the chairs outside the back door had also come loose almost causing me to fall off.I managed to find the nut amongst the pebbles & again tightened that with my fingers. The bed seemed to crown in the middle causing both of us to roll to the outside, not a comfortable feeling. We both said it was the worst night's sleep we'd had.I got up at 5 am because I couldn't settle. It was only my wife's pain killers that allowed her a little longer. There was an awful stench of stagnant water/sewerage in the air all the time we were there.I later learnt it was a septic tank in the next property. The website claims,”The Bell pub offers a modern country pub feel, showcasing the pairs' love for a hearty, classic, British menu...” yet the only breakfast option is a continental one!Whatever happened to the full english? My wife is disabled & uses a small mobility scooter to get around which is why we requested one of the ground floor rooms. The path from the rooms to the door of the inn has a large step, inaccessible by scooter/wheelchair.The car park is loose gravel & was extremely difficult to navigate on her scooter. It would have been impossible for a wheelchair. I'd suggest paving at least part of the car park for disabled access.

This was the first cafe I came to, walking from the free car park, and as I have been there before, went straight in, expecting something straightforward and quick, on a journey. I chose a jacket potato with cheese and butter, and was looking forward to a harmless potato, with a bit of grated cheese, a small salad garnish, and a little Pat of wrapped butter on the side. Unfortunately, this was not what I received at all. Three half potatoes had been sunk under a half inch layer of melted cheese, all dripping in melted better. 2000 calories incarnate! I scraped off most of the cheese and ate the inside of the potatoes. It wasn’t at all what I had wanted. The coffee was lovely, and the toilets very clean and well cared for. I wouldn’t have believed that a jacket potato with cheese could be like that. It is a nice cafe, and was busy. Next time I am passing through Burford, I will have my lunch at the garden centre again, as you can see what your meal will be like.
