Best Western Westminster Inn

Westminster|3.34km from city center
In town for the Grand Prix of Long Beach and for that purpose, this hotel has a stellar location. It's a straight 15 minute shot on city streets right to downtown Long Beach (where the race is). No freeways, no hassle, and no obscene traffic any of the days getting there. Plus, along the way there are a ton of places to eat or get groceries including Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Go the other way on Westminster and there's Albertsons or Aldi plus a ton of fast food -- and yes, an In-And-Out Burger. As for the facility itself, it's a basic stay hotel with a few amenities. Room is clean (hardwood floors) and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean too. For those interested, the pool looked well maintained. Breakfast was a nice mix of cereal, fruit, juices, and scrambled eggs, potatoes, and sausages. Staff was extremely nice and accommodating -- even though I had to check in at 1AM after a late arrival into LAX. No worries parking -- they have enough spaces. In my room the fridge didn't work (there is a light switch to turn on the electricity to the fridge, but it never got cold after turning it on). Also, some noise from the neighbors next door -- nothing bad, but could hear them. Not a big deal, but if silence is your thing, chances are you'll hear your neighbors a bit and that might bother you. Road noise...not an issue for me since I had a room towards the back of the property. It's exactly what I thought it would be when I booked -- not fancy, but a good place to stay for a few nights and very convenient to the event I was attending.

Elden F Gillespie Park

SpringHill Suites Huntington Beach Orange County

Huntington Beach|3.16km from Elden F Gillespie Park
Overall, this is a good hotel to stay in for the area. It is not too close to the freeway or the busy street of Beach Blvd. It is upwind from the freeway and so you can breathe a little bit easier. Directly across the street is Whole Foods supermarket and Bella Terra, a shopping and dining complex which consists of California Pizza Kitchen, Cheese Cake Factory, Island Burgers, Jamba Juice, Somi Somi, Jamba Juice, and a whole bunch of stuff. There’s also REI if you need camping gear and a movie theater too. If you want Vietnamese noodle soup, there are two of the best noodle shops in Orange County within walking distance: they are Silk Noodle Bar (they make their noodles fresh and their filet mignon pho is out of this world. You can add other meats like meatballs to it if you want.) and Pho 101 (their sister restaurant Pho 79 won the James Beard Award recently. They have a good variety of things like the grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli. You may have to wait in line for a bit on the weekends.) A 5 minute walk to Beach Boulevard will get you to the bus stop where for $2 (or $4 for an unlimited one day pass) can get you to the beach and Huntington Beach Pier. Back to the hotel, you can expect a fairly insulated wall, a robust air conditioning system, clean rooms and amenities (their is an exercise room where you can get your water bottle refilled). My room 220 has a broken faucet though. (I took .5 points off for this but gave them the benefit of the doubt and gave them 5 stars anyway because the staff, especially Nicolas and Anthony were great in helping to take care of it. These guys were genuinely concerned about my dilemma of waking at night to use the toilet and faucet and couldn’t shut the water off until I had to shut off the valve below the sink.) There is, however, a new trainee at the front desk during the week that I am here. She is the embodiment of the Wells Fargo perky but has no soul employee who unnecessarily tries to engage you in conversation by making and/or asking personal statements questions. I know she is new. All I have to say is for her to lower her voice a bit and imagine that she is checking in her aunts and uncles each time she relates to people at the front desk. The room layout is natural and convenient. The architect who drew this layout up is a genius. The a/c hums but not noisily. The bed is comfortable. The bathroom and toilet are clean. The second floor has an open terrace that you can sunbathe and play games. Overall, this is a good choice if you can afford this price range.

Motel 6 Westminster, CA - North

My brother had paid a week in advance but he had an issue and had to leave the room before his week was over. I went in the office to see if they could refund him 2 days he had left or to see what could be done. I'm visiting from Arizona for a month and I was considering switching to this hotel. I went in today and spoke with Diana (the assistant manager) and was so surprised with her unprofessional and disrespectful attitude and tone she spoke to me with. Her unprofessionalism is not acceptable. Thanks to that I'm taking my business elsewhere. Beware of her if you decide to stay here.

I saw that some people did not recommend it before, so I always worried that the room was poor, but when I found out, it turned out to be very good. Breakfast, parking, sanitation, and facilities are very good. I am very surprised by the besr western series. Follow this hotel chain!

If I could give less than one star I would. I showed up exhausted this evening and the gentleman on duty, Tony Ong (who could not even be bothered to have his name tag on right side up) advised that this is a bike-free motel. I was not allowed to leave my bike in the room or we would be ”evicted”. Nor did Tony provide any solutions for storing my bike. I have traveled with bikes (this time only one) for years and never had an issue from upscale hotels to dingy motels like this one. I was not even aware that there was such thing as an anti-bike policy. I literally had to book another room 30 minutes away after a day of driving. Do they not allow strollers in their room. If you can fit it in the room what does it matter. I just post this as a warning as this motel clearly does not care how they treat their guests. I will make sure Choice Hotels is made aware of this since they are representing their brand. I do not think Choice wants to be known as anti-bike. On the plus side I ended up at the Hills in Laguna which is a proper hotel and it cost less than this dump in Westminster.

This hotel has been recently re-decorated, and looks nicer on the inside than you'd expect from the outside. It is small, but has an elevator. All rooms are non-smoking. The breakfast room accommodates six people. The food offered is pre-packaged, nothing hot except toast. Very small swimming pool, no spa. This is a decent place to stay in the coastal area. Only a ten minute drive to Huntington Beach and Pacific Coast Highway. It's named Hotel 39 because it is on Beach Blvd (Hwy 39).
