The Wooden House - Room Only Accommodation

We were hoodwinked… Long past its prime, The Wooden House is beyond jaded and looks condemned, with many sections shuttered or sealed off. The bar and restaurant have been closed since 2022 but the management won’t tell you this at the time of booking. Half the ‘hotel’ is occupied by long-term tenants, many of them refugees (not judging, just a fact). There are 27 steps up to the bedrooms. The rooms are an adequate size and quite clean (sand in bathroom) with a sea view through the small window though the springs in the bed in our room were broken and loud. There is no bottled water in the rooms and there is no staff presence. Save your €139 and sleep in your car instead. Or, lacking a car, the beach.

Beautiful place, awesome location. The manager couldn’t be more helpful, lovely lady. Beautiful room everything you need. We had a self catering room. It was fully equipped and toiletries were free. Only stayed one night but the bed was comfortable and we slept like a log.

The manager Samantha is outstanding going above and beyond to insure our stay was magnificent she provided excellent information on local places where to eat and things to do and I highly recommend the Wooden House for your stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A very neglected business with few staff and no food, in spite of its amazing location. I would not recommend staying here as the self contained units are in poor condition. There is a neglected patio at the front of the units being used as a smoking area by long term residents which gives bad vibes when approaching the units.

We stayed here 2 years back and the location is great but sadly The Wooden House is a shadow of its former self back then. After a few days from booking the room we blatantly received an email informing us that both the hotel bar and restaurant were not open... had we known upon booking we would have seriously reconsidered our booking, but plans were already made. Far from ideal and the website should reflect this massive omission of facilities. The room was nice and spacious but stank of pungent **** and needed airing for a few hours. The overall feel was that the Wooden House is tired and in a great need of a refresh, room included, The bathroom with Jacuzzi was massive but the latter didn't work, neither did the big shower head in the Jacuzzi, and the small shower head in the Jacuzzi was kept on by holding a little switch on the tap to maintain shower output, if let go of, it reverted to tap. Not ideal and again a revamp much needed. While the TV had Netflix, there was no terrestrial TV, and if there was, it was impossible to get or find. I feel that more human interaction would have been nice and the possibility of prompt communication about lack of a bar and restaurant would be expected as a norm; as in not doing so falls in to the bracket of false advertising. On the the latter point, upon hearing that there was no food and bar facilities, we did enquire about a room reduction but that sadly fell on deaf ears and was not mention upon check in. For 258 euro, I would say Avoid sadly. We shall not be back any time soon.

We turned up about 7:30 only to find the food service had finished, the only food available was a pizza from a van. The TV remote wouldn't work, we had to get someone to have a look with no joy. The entrance to the rooms could do with decorating and freshening up, a little bit of a damp smell. Was told to have a word in the morning, but when we booked out all the doors were locked so couldn't talk to anyone. Very difficult to get hold of any one by phone or Email, no one seems to answer.

Terrible room, no food served mid week. No parking due to high level of refugees staying. Room completely overpriced. Staff were nice but seemed very young/inexperienced. Strong smells of food in accommodation area.

Tv didn't work, shower didn't work, no dinner or breakfast service available on a Tuesday or Wednesday, no parking available, absolutely zero care's given by staff. Possibly the worst accommodation I've ever witnessed in Ireland.

We were on a day trip to Kilmore Quay from Wexford Town and decided to pop into The Wooden House for lunch. When we entered the bar we were told we'd have to wait ten minutes before they were officially open and could take our order but we could wait inside. We appreciated this and told them we wanted some tea. They said that was fine. As promised, ten minutes later one of the staff came to take our order but we were informed that they had no kettle and if we wanted tea we'd have to wait half an hour for the coffee machine to heat up the water. This seemed farcical that there was no kettle in the building and that communication between staff seemed non-existent. We left and found somewhere else.
