Motel Villa Del Rio

Our stay was fine. A little outdated but overall comfy and pleasant

Stayed here in between Xmas and new years. The pool was clean and a welcome asset during the hot weather. Our room was basic but clean and tidy, the only downside was no air-con but we had 2 x fans in our room. Shower pressure not great. Other guests were quiet overnight, but as the motel is close to the hospital be prepared for the rescue helicopter to take off early morning/late at night. Recommend a day trip to Waitangi/Paihia.

At 4pm, we went to book here on a business trip as there was no sign outside stating there was no vacancy. On entry we found an unattended reception counter displaying a no vacancy sign... Moved on up the road to spend our money else where. I know Covid has been tough on the industry, but would it be to much to ask to put up a sign outside?

The motel was clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Old motel upgraded and comfortable. Nowhere to hang clothes, should this be important. Pleased had electric blanket. Suggestion - check "dodgy" connections at wall and temperature control. Stove had switch not working. Not an issue for me. Good Wifi Would stay again.

The hospital put my mother up in this motel for a post-surgery stay. To care for her I paid and stayed with my two young children in the next room over. The pool was green and closed, yet no discount on the room was given despite not providing the amenities advertised. The rooms were clean, but very VERY run down. The kitchen floor and carpet in my mothers room was soaked from the fridge leaking, causing a slipping hazard. Management did not provide her towels despite me specifically asking if there were towels in her room at check in, so we could not clean this up ourselves. Management did mop immediately once made aware of the leak, but did not repair the fridge and still did not provide my mother any towels. The dining table chairs were broken in my room. The blades on the fan they provide broke off 2mins after being turned on rendering it useless. The beds were OK but the rooms are uncomfortably hot! We later found the milk pottles in my mothers fridge had curdled due to the fridge issues. Management shrugged their shoulders and told us a previous tenant must have muddled with the thermostat. We mentioned room checks being their responsibility (when we arrived our rooms were not locked, so presume the rooms had not been checked over after the cleaners left) and this is when management became hostile... said they would refund us and we could go somewhere else if we were not happy! We were not happy but at 7:30pm, 5 hours away from home with a post surgery check the next day, on waitangi weekend - unfortunately - we had no choice but to continue on with our subpar stay. We truly weren't expecting 5 star, wear and tear could have been overlooked for the price IF management weren't so dismissive of their failures to provide the basics and safety to their customers.

It was perfect for what we needed, close to the Whangarei hospital. Great sized rooms and very clean for the age of this property. Amenities were all there in the room. We were in the roadside room and it was a little bit noisy but then we do live out in the country! Would definitely stay again. Thank you 🙂

Disappointed with pool not being open and was dirty in middle of summer. Many sky channels advertised as being available were not. Shower pressure was minimal. Room itself was tidy and sufficient
