Booked this hotel as a last minute trip. We arrived and immediately thought what the hell. Not sure why people think that filling a hotel with tat is quirky, but each to their own. We complained about the room politely upon arrival then it went downhill. We did admittedly come home late (12pm) and after a few drinks it was hysterical coming up the stairs being greeted by the most obnoxious scary stuff including stuffed animals and a doll that would give Annabelle and Chucky a fright. The owner was looking for any reason to have a go at us. She marched into the room screaming that we were rude for coming in at midnight drunk and disturbing the rude guests next door who quite honestly looked like they needed a good drink themselves. She told us that she had phoned the police and that she wanted us to leave to which we replied that we would wait for them as we would like to speak to them as she had entered the room when I specifically told her I was naked. The owner was also livid that we hadn’t even had a drink in the bar or tried to have a conversation with the staff to which we replied that we didn’t want to spend any time here because it was absolutely filthy. We were charged nearly £600 for 3 nights with no breakfast and the complimentary coffee and tea wasn’t replenished. I presume this was our punishment for complaining. Our empty cups and milk bottles weren’t removed so I had to carry them down myself. The owner was so offended that we had complained about the room and took it completely personally telling us she didn’t trust us around the antiques (they are not antiques). My partner had jokingly moved something from the reception to our room and she treated us like we had committed the crime of the century. Our complaint was entirely legitimate and justified. The sink was cracked, the light shade was held together with cable ties and we found hair under the bed. It was dusty, cobwebs everywhere and the decor was shocking it felt like we were waiting to be sacrificed. Extremely overpriced especially as the rooms have shabby floorboards and the stairs carpet is atrocious. The owner is extremely delusional and blinkered about the state of her hotel. See pictures for a true representation

Thank you very much La Rosa for a lovely stay. Great views from our quirky room , very comfy bed , lovely breakfast and your friendliness and enthusiasm just made our trip perfect. So nice to sit in your lovely communal room on an evening listening to music, reading your wonderful books and having a drink from the bar.

Have you ever been to a hotel that just gets you? That's how I feel about La Rosa. I treated myself to a solo weekend stay in the Little Red [Riding Hood] room for my birthday, and had probably the best hotel stay of my life. The room was amazing - thoughtfully decorated with gorgeous touches to match the theme, with a cosy vibe and the comfiest bed. I booked direct so got complimentary continental breakfast delivered to my room. The room and bathroom were clean, and homemade soap (smelled amazing) was included. The staff were wonderful - friendly and chatty, and really made me feel comfortable, welcome and at home, especially lovely for a solo woman. In short, I loved everything about this hotel, and I would love to come back and experience the other rooms!

I have stayed at many hotels here in the UK but none with quite so special as La Rosa! Everything about this Bohemian beauty is truly special. I went on my own for a Birthday break and could not have been made more welcome from all the wonderful friendly and kind staff headed up by the ever fabulous Helen! Nothing was too much trouble including so many wonderful cocktails made by Brodie the host with the most! Breakfast is left outside your door when booking directly and is a real treat! Five stars all round to a wonderful stay and a huge thank you for making my stay truly special!! Will definately be back!! xxxx Missing Jonathan so much already! :)

Stayed for 3 nights in the Stoker Room for our little Dracula inspired trip to Whitby and the room and hotel didn’t disappoint. The decor is fabulous, the atmosphere and music chilled and the people who run are just lovely and couldn’t do enough. Spent a lovely evening in the bar area listening to music, drinking wine and reading. If you’re heading to a Whitby I can’t recommend this hotel enough. Also it’s a short walk to everything.

Weird but lovely gothic victoriana hotel. Warm, welcoming and genuine service, kooky individualistic rooms with spectacular views of the ruined abbey and wild bordello style decor. Loved the cocktail library bar, and the creepy curio cabinets of the dining room. Totally fits the Whitby vibe and look forward to staying again.

We had a fantastic two night stay here. All the bedrooms are themed and we were in the saloon room (pet friendly room, we took our two dogs). The room was spotlessly clean with a really comfortable bed. Breakfast was continental which you can have sent up to your room or enjoy in the dining room. It was very nice and there was plenty of it. In the afternoon we came back for coffee and some of the chocolate porter cake which was delicious. The hotel has a bar and the cocktails were great (the La Rosa was my favourite). Everything about our stay was lovely but it’s the staff here that make it special. They are all friendly, attentive and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I would definitely recommend this hotel and can’t wait to return!

2nd time in this beautiful hotel. Stayed in Stoker room having already stayed in La Rosa. Views over Abbey and the bay are stunning. Loved the continental breakfast served on afternoon tea plates which we took in the downstairs tea room. Cocktails ....well Turkish Rose is my fave. Sitting in the relaxing lounge after a long day taking in Whitbys sights sipping a cocktail with muted music playing in the background is just bliss. Staff and owners so friendly. Hope to be back next year

Booked Sacre Coeur for 2 nights and very happy with choice. Definitely a room with a view. Very comfortable bed and slept really well. Friendly hosts. Great cocktails with board games to borrow. Played scrabble and it was a draw. Very dog friendly and Pablo the Pug came with us. Hotel is very close to the beach close to all the best fish and chips.

This is our 2nd time staying. This time we stayed in the Little Red Room. Each antique fits the theme of the room. Each room is individually themed. Breakfast is continental, and you can have it delivered to your room or enjoy it in the fabulous tea room. In the evening you have the Vintage Themed Bar Room. Cocktails are available as well as local ales and beers. During the day the tea room and bar are open to the public with delicious homemade cakes. Helen and her amazing team looked after us and were so helpful with my partner who is blind.
