The owner/manager seems to lack some ethics. He lied to us about availability, and when confronted with the lie continued to deceive until he finally just said, "That's our policy". We were on the last two nights of a two week stay in Ireland. Our party had two couples and had to book a double and a more expensive triple at the lodge because of availability. We emailed the owner and requested that if something that would better suit our party of four became available to let us know. The Lodge also had a cabin that had two bedrooms and would have been perfect. We found the cabin was available when we went to check on potential cancelations the day before our stay. We decided to inquire when we got to the lodge. When we asked the owner upon our arrival he said that nothing was available. I even asked if the cabins were possible and he said no they were all booked. We checked in and once in our rooms I checked the lodge website again and it claimed the cabin was available for the next two nights. When I went to ask about the discrepancy the owner would not answer the office door or phone. However, when I went outside and rang the bell to the lodge (where newly arriving guests would enter) he suddenly appeared. I pointed out our confusion and he said he only had the cabin for one night not the two we needed. I again directed him to the online booking information. He said he had to check again and that someone else handled booking. When he came back he said he was mistaken and that the cabin was available, but we'd already checked in. We said we had only put our bags down and would be able to make the move. He related that we'd already agreed to the previous booking, but that he could rent the cabin to one of the couples, which would have increased the price of our overall stay. Not thinking he understood I explained that we hoped to reduce the overall cost and that the four of us could do that by staying in the cabin. He said he could not honor that request as we needed to give him prior notice. When I explained that we had emailed this request months ago he said there was nothing he could do. To be fair, the lodge is quaint and has a lot going for it, but host/guest relationship relies on trust. The guests are putting their safety and the safety of their possessions in the hands of the host. When the host repeatedly lies and lies to cover up lies it corrupts that trust. After this incident we went back and looked at some of the one star reviews of this lodge, and we encourage you to do the same.
