The YHA is located in the middle of the mountain. There is a supermarket and a bus stop at the gas station at the foot of the mountain. There are many showers and toilets which are very convenient. There are many camping tents on the big lawn in front of the door.

We've just enjoyed a lovely stay in a bell tent for 3 nights. Check in is a bit later than ideal (5pm) but we arrived early and had a wonder around the site. Our tent was spotless and the wood burner all set up for our arrival. Inside the tent was cosy yet spacious and the bed were super comfortable. The camping field is a bit slopy but the view is really amazing. We used the camp kitchen which was pretty well equipped and clean (although many of the pans didn't work on the induction hobs). Showers were warm and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

This is easily the best place I've had the pleasure to stay at. Straight away I highly recommend. I chose the camping option which is only £12 a night, there are options for rooms and tipis too for very reasonable prices. The staff have been IMMENSELY accommodating. All of my needs have been met beyond my expectations. The location is good. You're about an 18 minute walk from the nearest bus taking you into the town centre. There is plenty of info here on local walks/hikes. It goes without saying you're in a beautiful location. The view of the lake and the mountains to wake up to is absolutely breathtaking. Even if you stayed here for a while and didn't go on any adventures, even if you stayed at the hostel the whole time, its very much worth your while. Even just for that. Food and drink is available, the food is amazing and is well priced. I want to empathise how amazing the staff are, I've had quite a few enquires and favours to ask of them and they've been immediately brilliant. Kind people with beautiful hearts. You WILL be taken care of with great care. It's a family friendly environment, and is quiet from 10pm till 7am. The guests are very respectful too. I couldn't recommend this place more. 😊

We have just enjoyed a very fun stay at YHA Windermere. The camping field is not very flat but the views are amazing. Our bell tent was spotless on arrival with a stove set up to keep us warm in the wet and windy weather. The tent was spacious and the beds were super comfortable. We used the camp kitchen which was clean and well equipped but also ate once at the hotel cafe which has a decent menu with reasonable prices. Local beer on tap was also a positive. Camping facilities were clean and well maintained and the shower shack cubicles offered a lovely warm shower. Staff were friendly and welcoming and I would happily stay here again.

As a family we tend to stay at 4/5 star hotels. However, due to the cost of living crisis, we tried to save money this year staying in the UK and doing the national 3 peaks challenge. We chose YHA Lake Windermere as our base to hike Scafell Pike which probably wasn't the best decision as it's over an hour and a half drive away over a mountain pass which is tricky to drive. In hindsight it would have been a better idea to book YHA Wasdale but I digress. The stay at YHA Windermere was fantastic with no TV and such a small room it forced us to spend time together as a family. We spent hours on the terrace overlooking the lake, enjoying the scenery and the communal area playing the board games provided. The cooked breakfast was delicious and plentiful. All in all a great stay and a great opportunity to connect with the other guests and savour the communal spirit. The staff were also very happy and I can't recommend YHA enough.

Having loved the bell tent here last year, we returned this year and decided to give the new Airstream (on-site caravan) a go! It is a beautiful thing to stay in - a silver pod like something out of a retrofuturistic space age. Excellently furnished inside with a double bed, fold-down single bed, small sofa and lots of storage solutions. Plenty of power sockets too, with both a heater and a fan. Best of all, our dog was able to stay in there with us! The hostel has excellent self-catering and hygiene facilities, and our dog was kindly allowed in both the dining room and lounge. Being close to Windermere and Grasmere, we really recommend this YHA for a dog-friendly, family Lakes holiday, and I personally hope to see the Airstreams spread to other hostels in the future.

We arrived on a very rainy Monday and the bell tent was available straight away. The views are amazing and the space is great for a 4yr old, 6 yr old and 9 yr old to play around. We felt safe and looked after. The bell tent has charging point (USB) and a log burner. Outside there is a fire pit we used it to BBQ and sit around and a picnic bench. We also booked the air stream which was brilliant, it had a heater a fan and plug sockets… a small sofa and a table and chairs, fire pit outside. The toilet/ shower block was very clean and as I have never camped(glamped) before the facilities including the kitchen were welcoming and well used. On a negative there was a smell outside the toilet block and the walk up to the hostel was steep but walkers will not see this as an issue. Our family of 8 had a great time. Thank you.

Myself and my 2 sons had a great stay in one of the bell tents. The site and the views are beautiful, shower and toilet blocks kept very clean by the staff and the shower shacks were great! Self catering kitchen clean and well equipped both in the camping block and inside the hostel. Bell tent was very comfortable and cosy even in the rain! There is no where on the campsite to dry your hair with a hairdryer so I had to go upstairs inside the hostel to use a mirror and plug on the landing which wasn't too much of a problem, but worth knowing. Every member of staff were extremely helpful and so friendly and the breakfasts were lovely. The overall vibe of the hostel and campsite is very friendly and welcoming. We had a wasps nest under our bell tent and the manager came out and had us moved to another tent within half an hour, a specialist was called in to remove them, he couldn't have dealt with it better. It's a 10/10 We will definitely be back, we had a fantastic time!

We had a really nice stay in our little tipi. The staff were so lovely and we felt very well looked after. Tom especially went above and beyond to make us feel welcome when one of us was ill. Thank you so much!
