I travelled from London and was genuinely excited to stay here, but our experience at the pool was extremely upsetting. A male guest approached my daughter and me and, while shouting at us, told us to shower before entering the pool. We were the only Black and visibly Muslim guests there, and other guests arrived afterwards without being approached, which made us feel deliberately singled out and racially profiled.
As a mother travelling with my daughter, I found the incident extremely uncomfortable, humiliating and distressing. I left the pool feeling shaken and upset. We should never have been made to feel targeted or harassed because of our race or religion, especially while simply trying to enjoy the hotel facilities.
I reported the incident to the hotel at checkout, and I strongly expect this to be taken seriously. The hotel should have clear procedures for dealing with discriminatory and intimidating behaviour between guests and ensure that every guest feels safe, respected and welcome
