Holiday Inn Express XINING RAILWAY STATION by IHG

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Xining for three days. It was very clean, spacious, and reasonably priced. The breakfast was also pretty good. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit.

My last night in Xining, I chose this hotel mainly because it's close enough to the train station. The hotel's underground parking lot seems to have a limited number of spaces (similar to the Holiday Inn Express I stayed at before). You need to get a handwritten pass from the front desk to enter and exit without paying for parking. I arrived around 3:30 PM, and they said the room was still being inspected, so I had to wait a bit before getting the room card. The front desk also gave me two complimentary vouchers for afternoon tea on the top floor. I checked it out later, and honestly, it felt less impressive than the breakfast's dessert, fruit, and beverage selection. 😅 I got a room on the 20th floor with views of the mountains to the north and south of Xining, so I guess you could call it a "mountain view + city view" room. Breakfast was pretty standard. The local specialties from Qinghai were 'sanzi' and 'huahua' (I think that's what it was called, also a fried starchy food). Similar to other HUAZHU hotels I've stayed at, this one had many tourists from eastern China. Around 8 AM, the restaurant and elevators became particularly crowded. Goodbye, Xining! 👋

The room was spacious and the bedding comfortable. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby. It's also quite close to the high-speed train station. You can buy delicious fruit right downstairs, and it was super convenient to pick up our rental car.

The hotel's location is great, and the service is quite good, on par with other Holiday Inn hotels. The only 'surprise' was that despite having a guaranteed 2 PM late check-out, they still called around 1 PM to confirm... spoiling a rare afternoon nap.

The hotel is good, just a bit dated. The sealant in the bathroom was yellowed, but overall it was good and convenient. I recommend staying here. As the first stop on the Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop, the overall experience was very good.

After our trip to Qinghai, we returned to the Holiday Inn Express, and it felt like coming back to civilization. The front desk staff were professional and friendly. There's underground parking, and the room was clean and spacious. For dinner, we had 'Kaiguo Lamb' at the hotel restaurant – selected short ribs simmered in broth for 15 minutes, then dipped in sauce, which was absolutely delicious! We finished with some vegetables cooked in the same pot. The breakfast spread, a mix of Western and Chinese, was also very rich. Compared to other Holiday Inn Express hotels in mainland China, this one offered local specialties like yogurt and noodles. If I ever come back to Xining, I'll definitely choose to stay here again.

The hotel is located near the high-speed rail station, which is convenient if that's your priority. However, if you're looking to explore the city, there aren't many attractions nearby. The hotel seems a bit old, with dated facilities and a small bathroom. On the other hand, the service was quite good; as a member, I even received a complimentary executive afternoon tea.
