The Russelior Hotel & Spa

I'll call this 4.5 stars rounded up. I was here for a business trip, so will also mention the aspect of having a meeting at the Russelior. ROOM: I'd give my room 4 stars. It was super comfortable. I was fortunate to have a small balcony, and sat out there almost every day after breakfast to read for a bit before needing to go to work. I requested cleaning several times (not every day), and was very happy with the job they did with that. The bathroom and WC are like what one would find outside of the US -- shower, bath and sink in one place, toilet in the other. I agree with a review I read that the WC is funk because of how the door is placed; it's challenging to close the door. Cons in the room: Lighting is very low, especially in the bathroom. I imagine this is to hide the fact that some upgrades are needed in the bathroom -- but everything worked and was clean. DINING ROOM: There are tons of options at every meal, including authentic Tunisian dishes. Staff: 500 stars. What a lovely group of individuals! Aside from preparing and serving dishes, they taught me a bit of Tunisian every day. I wasn't just greeted politely at each meal, I was treated warmly. They recognized me, and by day 3, I'd come in to breakfast and they knew which table I was making a bee-line for; they'd be ready with coffee the way I like it, etc. Great senses of humor and wonderful service. The food is seafood heavy -- and the staff remembered I have a seafood allergy, so they'd point to the dishes I could have each day. They put a range of salads out as well. RECEPTION/OTHER STAFF: Wonderful. The front desk team was very helpful throughout the week. The hotel was spotless, and we saw people cleaning at all hours of the day. BUSINESS SETUP: We had reliable WiFi the whole week. We used a smaller meeting room, and again, the staff brought everything we needed. Tech was super easy to use. They came to clean when we were on breaks. Overall really good. I didn't experience the spa or the pool -- it was too cold to be outside by the pool, and we were too busy to take advantage of the spa! But if I am able to get back to Tunisia, I think I'd stay here again. [ONE THING: This is about Tunisia, not about this hotel -- but I wasn't prepared for how many people smoke cigarettes here. The hotel rooms are non-smoking, but people smoke on their balconies, as well as outside on the pool level. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, I'd recommend you tell reception that when you make a reservation so they can hopefully get you to a room that isn't over a gathering area!

Wow what cane I say! The hotel was very comfortable and clean and rooms had everything you needed and were very quiet. There was plenty of seating inside and sun beds outside. Staff and other guests were very friendly which we felt made the holiday even better . The food was very varied and plentiful, and I can’t imagine anyone being hungry. We are not fussy eaters so ate local and traditional meals however if you weren’t brave enough there was always pizza , chips, bread, nuggets and spag bol! We didn’t ever eat these as there was no need as other dishes were lovely. We do not have dietary restrictions, but they were catered for if you did. We only drank the all inclusive drinks ( alcoholic, cocktails, and soft ) which were always fine for us. Bottled water was plentiful. Bars were quiet and you were served by staff who were friendly and polite, as were all the staff we came across- a real asset to the resort. We took part in tennis lessons with Ferris who was an excellent coach. The lessons we went to were quiet but we noticed in busier lessons as well as our own, he taught people individually and to their level. He was very pleasant and friendly both on and off the court and an asset to the entertainment team. The keep fit programme was excellent . We were at the hotel one peak week and one off peak week and the classes run with only one or two attendees. Washington ran the best keep fit class for all over body toning that I have ever attended in a hotel. He was excellent instructor and the class was also fun. I also attended several of Charlie’s fitness classes which were very enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed dancing with both Washington and Charlie in the evenings after the shows- when they needed a partner to dance with and encourage others on to the floor. Other members of the entertainment that made our holiday were Alex (Archery ) and Thais and Owen from the entertainment. I liked the fact the staff sat with guests at meals which I enjoyed as I am chatty. If you didn’t want this you could sit on a small table so there was no room! The shows were very professional and there was something else going on most evening afterwards People danced into the night, however we were always whacked out after the day , so didn’t last more than a few dances. We played volleyball, and even though myself and my partner were the oldest and not particularly tall, we were encouraged to join each day. It was a good way of meeting other guests. The transfer on the coach went fine and to plan both ways. We felt safe outside the hotel perimeter but we didn’t like being approached by the local people selling their goods. It seemed to stop when we ignored them, and as we were at the hotel for a few weeks I think they gave up on us. I wanted to buy something from a local trader on Tunisian day, but was unable to make him understand How much ? So was disappointed not being able to support the local trader. Maybe somebody to help with this would have been an idea.
