Holiday Inn YORK by IHG

This was the second time we stayed here. Lovely location. Not too far from York City Centre but far enough for serene environment. Taking a Uber to the Shambles costs about £6-7. Clean rooms.

The staff is nice. The room is clean. The air conditioning is good.

Found walnuts under the mattress near the edge, glad I don’t have a nut allergy or a family staying in that room with a toddler who has allergies. Could’ve ended up pretty serious if a small child had eaten a nut.

Room description said comes with a fridge. I have to take medication so put in a request to just make sure this was happening. No reply from hotel saying this was not so. Also requested a high floor room. On arriving given a room on the lower floor and had kids running round squealing all day and night. Shouting through the walls ect. And guess what no fridge as specified and also requested. £16.00 for a glass of wine in the bar so dear. Nothing else around so have to get taxi from hotel to anywhere. Do not rate this hotel and will never stay here again. Being a ihg member stay in lots of ihg property and this is the worst. Dirty tiny rooms . Poor staff. Just horrible place.

hotel was very clean all around staff were friendly & helpful.So much choice for breakfast which is included in the price we was very happy with our stay

Location is very good. To move to other places, the hotel location is very close to the motorway.

It’s possibly one of the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. We were given a room smells of mould and damp to begin with, after complaining we got swap to a different room, no bad smell anymore, but the carpet was covered in dirty stains, what it really put me off was the blood stain under the thin bedsheets. The lady at front desk did then given us a prime room but with broken air conditioning, she did pre-warn me about the broken air conditioning, but we were far too tired and desperate to unpack and rest. I naively thought by opening the windows it will be fine. Anyway, on top of all these, our door also got unlocked by a stranger after we had just gone to bed. Luckily the chain at the back of the door was on and the stranger shut the door quickly after I shouted “who is it?” After a sleepless night, I had awful headache the following day, I had to change my plan the next day so I could recover fully.

Overall the hotel is very good value even if the rooms are slightly out dated. But on this ttip due to our room bring located next to the lift on the first night we never sleot at all due to the noise of the lift going up and down etc. On the second night we were given a different room.
