St George Inn Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay. The location is just 15 minutes away from down town york near famous shambles street. The room was absolutely spotless. The hostess was just lovely. I slept like a baby !! And the breakfast was made to order ! Loved staying. Here and I will be back !! Xx 5 Stars ! Irene M Boston

It was a lovely guest house and a delicious breakfast made the St George's Hotel a perfect place to stay whilst visiting york. A special mention to Alison who was very friendly and it was a lovely gift of a birthday cake for my wife's birthday presented to my wife at breakfast and then all the guests started to sing Happy Birthday. No hesitation staying again for our next visit to York.

Myself and My husband had a most wonderful stay in your guest house this past week for my birthday and our anniversary. The room was beautiful, and decorated for my birthday and the birthday card was such a lovely thought. Alison in particular went out of her way to make our stay just perfect, nothing was too much trouble. Fiona and Gage you have a wonderful establishment which we hope to stay in with you again. Hopefully next time we will meet you too but for now everyone associated with your place is a credit to you both. Thank You again xx

Had a brilliant overnight stay.Alison was very welcoming and made us feel at home straight away.We were early for the 2 o'clock checkin but Alison gave us the key for our room so we could drop our bags there.The room was lovely,very clean and with a lovely selection of teas/coffee and biscuits.We had a brilliant nights sleep in the large bed as did our granddaughter in the single sofa bed.We will definitely book this hotel again on our next trip to York. i

Great location, welcomed by Alison who is lovely and helpful. Room was warm, quiet, clean and the tea and coffee amenities were quality products. Bathroom was clean although shower needed tightening as it was slipping from holder, which we did ourselves it didn't effect the use. Definitely stay again.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Allison was the perfect host and made us feel right at home. The bed was incredibly comfortable (and huge), we both had a cracking nights sleep. We decided against breakfast, but it smelled insane so will give it a try next time.

We received a warm and friendly greeting when we arrived. All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful. Our room was larger than I expected, well equipped, comfortable and clean. St George's Guest House felt very "homely", there were pleasant touches such as fresh flowers placed around the entrance hall, a supply of snacks and drinks with an honesty box and a constantly replenished supply of tea, coffee, milk etc which guests could just help themselves to if running low in their room. The breakfast was wonderful, we only had it on one morning as for other days we had plans to have breakfast at various places in town. We were made to feel very welcome and I will certainly have St George's uppermost in my mind for my next visit to York. The location was great for us. We were driving to York and didn't really want to drive through the city centre as I know that traffic congestion can be bad - not a criticism of York, it's the result of a key appeal to the city - its medieval street layout and the existence of the city walls. St George's is just a short walk away from the city centre, maybe 20 minutes or so. Google Maps shows a walking time of 26 minutes from St George's to Coppergate for example and I do find that I walk a bit faster than Google Maps expects. At St George's we were able to arrive and park up without having to deal with city centre traffic and there was ample parking on the street near the guest house. There is also a small, private car parking area at the rear of the accommodation for which you can opt to pay extra if you really want that. It can be difficult to find accommodationn within the city walls which offers parking and even if you do then you still have to deal with driving around the city centre - something I would rather avoid. For those not wanting to walk there are regular busses along Tadcaster Road into town.

Stayed in this hotel on the Saturday evening ready for the marathon the following day. A little overpriced but we were expecting that as it was the marathon weekend and every hotel had increased prices over this weekend. Staff very nice and friendly and made us feel welcome. All details about the hotel were explained to us as we checked in. Even let us use the toilet in reception area once we had returned from the marathon to pick our car up. Nice that there is a fridge with drinks and ‘tuck shop’ in the reception area, so if needed you can purchase a few items. Room was lovely and clean, very quiet as we were on the second floor. Bed vey comfy. Large walk in shower in bathroom. Parking is either on the street which has no restrictions or for £10 per night there is a car park to the rear of the hotel, limited spaces. Ten minute walk to the train station and about 35 minutes to York Minster. Our stay was very pleasant and we will definitely return when we visit York again. Thank you Alison for all you did for us.

Our second visit to this Fabulous Guest House!!! . Beautiful room’s exceptionally clean .! Home from Home !. Staff so so friendly cannot do enough for you always on hand . Breakfast is the best I’ve ever had ! Plenty to choose from the menu , And Hot!! . Excellent Stay !!! .

Stayed here for my wife's birthday as we had a day at the races, I contacted Fiona in advance to decorate the room with added touches for a surprise for my wife and fiona and team were more than happy to help. Very clean and homely place to stay, Breakfast is a must! Quality produce makes the difference Will 100% stay again Thanks again to Fiona and the whole team

Welcome was friendly, informative, quite complete. Maybe a little weird...not quite a normal reception. Followed by the fact that there is no staff on site during the night. Again, slightly different. Room, linen, curtains ( room facing street): all quite adequate. Bathroom also, though there's a problem in getting right temperature in shower. Breakfast adequate: quality good, just a little different again from "standard". Excellent coffee! Quite expensive I would say.

Booked late, slept really well and great breakfast. Normally stay in chained hotels, but am going to book independents from now on. Free parking, wifi and everything easy. Girls on breakfast really friendly and good start to the day. Will be back :)

I stayed at St George's for two nights and found it comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent: close to the Knavesmire and York racecourse, and very convenient access to the centre of York by bus or a short walk, if you fancy it. There is a garden at the back of the hotel to sit out in if you want. Cooked breakfast in the morning was lovely and very reasonably priced. My room was perfectly clean and comfortable, with ensuite, though it did feel a little on the small side. Also, being on the ground floor at the back of the hotel, the room was overlooked by the house next door and anyone in the carpark. I may well be back, but I might ask for a larger, first floor room next time!
