Yamanohotel Musouen

The room i stayed the hot water is not working and they told us when we arrived not prior notice. Quite a disappointment for the price we paid. Public onsen was lit tho. The room was huge.

When I booked the room, I clearly stated that we were a family of three, and it was written down as three people. The room type description said it was 8 tatami mats, but as a Hongkonger I have no real sense of how big 8 tatami mats actually is. On top of that, the price wasn’t cheap; it was a normal rate, and it only covered the room, with no meals included. However, the 8‑tatami room was so small that once three single mattresses were laid out, all that was left was a narrow corridor with three chairs for the tatami area and a small square table. In reality, it was basically a single room. Although the staff’s service and attitude were very good, they still couldn’t make up for my disappointment with the hotel.

Absolutely loved my stay. Someone told me it rarely snows in Yufuin, and it happened to snow the night I arrived Musouen. All the onsens were amazing. I would definitely go back.

Although Yufuin was a bit of a disappointment, this onsen ryokan was not at all. Incredible number of beautiful onsens both private and public. We went several times a day and the rooms were incredibly large and comfortable.

Have to take taxi to the Ryokan, but this is the best Ryokan I stayed. Amazing food, service, onsen. Highly recommended

The room facilities and onsen are very good.

I enjoyed the ryokan. It’s quiet however the downside is it’s location - a good 30mins walk from the main attractions. You can take a cab but that will cost quite a bit despite short distance. The onsen is the bomb. Outdoor and not too crowded. Mostly i encountered only locals / Koreans. The restaurant serves food that tastes like grandma’s cooking. Not the most comprehensive to the palate but it feels like home. Overall, pleasant.
