Stayed at Wanda Yuehua in Changbai Mountain, just relaxed.
🌿 Changbai Mountain Slow Life | A 3-Day Vacation-Style Summer Escape Guide Without Rushing Through Attractions
Is there anyone like me? The most annoying thing about traveling is rushing through attractions, setting multiple alarms every day, just snapping a few photos and rushing to the next spot, more exhausting than work.
This time in Changbai Mountain, I finally got it — no more rushing! Find a comfortable place to stay, wake up naturally every day, go out if you want, stay in the hotel if you don’t, just do whatever feels comfortable. After these three days, I actually felt happier than when I was rushing through attractions before.
This article is for those "relaxing type" travelers like me, no fuss, no rushing, just quietly enjoying a vacation.
🏡 Stay in the right place, and your vacation is already half successful
This time I chose a hotel in the Wanda Resort. Honestly, I was worried it might be too commercialized at first, but once I got there — it was amazing!
Why I recommend staying in the resort:
1. It’s truly cool
The entire resort is at the foot of the mountain, surrounded by forest, and the temperature is 2-3 degrees lower than the town. Walking around the park during the day, the dappled shade keeps it from feeling hot, and the breeze is cool.
2. Complete facilities
Everything you need! Restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, cinemas, KTV... even a water park and golf course. You can have fun for three days without leaving the resort.
3. The environment is really nice
Trees and flowers everywhere, well-paved paths perfect for walking or jogging. In the morning, take a stroll in the park, listen to birds, breathe fresh air, and feel completely refreshed.
4. Convenient access to scenic spots
For the West Slope, the resort offers direct shuttle buses, no need to hassle with taxis. For the North Slope, you can join a day tour or drive yourself, about an hour and a half away.
I stayed in a tent-style room, which sounds rough but actually isn’t at all! It has air conditioning, a private bathroom, and comfortable bedding. The exterior looks like a tent, and at night you can hear insects and birds outside, giving a luxurious wilderness vibe.
🌅 The right way to start the day is slow
Morning: Wake up naturally, then enjoy a leisurely breakfast
No alarms! Wake up whenever you want. I usually wake around 8, lounge in bed for half an hour, then head to breakfast around 9. The resort offers many breakfast options, both Chinese and Western. I always have a bowl of hot porridge with pickles in the morning — so comforting.
After breakfast, take a walk around the park. The morning air is the freshest, dew still on the grass, sparkling on the leaves. If you’re lucky, you might see squirrels darting around — super cute.
Late morning: Pick a favorite activity to enjoy
Here are some I recommend:
🌿 Forest boardwalk hiking
The resort has several easy hiking trails along wooden boardwalks through the forest. The trees are tall, sunlight filters through the leaves, like walking in a green light forest. A 40-minute to 1-hour walk, not tiring but you’ll break a light sweat — very refreshing.
There are resting pavilions along the way where you can sit, listen to birds, and daydream.
🚴 Mountain cart / Zhenxi slide
This is super fun! Sit in a small cart and slide down the hill, controlling your own speed — fast or slow as you like — weaving through the trees, the wind blowing past your ears, very stress-relieving. I played twice and wanted more.
(If you’re timid, don’t worry, the speed is fully controllable and very safe.)
🚣 Lake activities
The resort has an artificial lake where you can pedal boats, transparent boats, and bumper boats in summer. I rented a transparent boat, paddled on the lake, seeing fish and water plants below — perfect for photos.
There’s a lawn and umbrellas by the lake, so when you get tired, you can rest onshore, enjoy the breeze and watch the clouds — very pleasant.
Noon: Take a nap back at the hotel
Yes, you read that right — take a nap! What kind of vacation is it if you don’t nap?
At the hottest time of day (only about 26-27°C), go back to the hotel, take a shower, open the window (no need for air conditioning), listen to birds outside, and nap. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed.
Afternoon: Afternoon tea + leisure time
Wake up around 2 or 3 pm, go to the hotel lobby bar or a café in the resort, order a coffee and cake, read a book or scroll your phone, or just sit and daydream.
You can also try these:
· Blueberry picking: July is blueberry season. There’s a picking farm near the resort, 30 RMB per jin, freshest when you pick yourself. I filled a basket, washed and ate them at the hotel — sweet with a bit of tartness, much better than store-bought.
· Hot springs: Don’t think it’s strange to soak in hot springs in summer! The springs here are mild, about 38-40°C, very relaxing, and you sleep great afterward. Soaking while looking at the forest feels very healing.
· Golf practice range: Even if you’ve never played, you can try it. There’s a coach to teach basic swings, a few swings to break a sweat — quite fun.
Evening: Have a good meal, then stroll and stargaze
There are many dining options:
· The resort has many restaurants offering Northeast Chinese, Korean, hot pot, barbecue — all tasty, though a bit pricier than the town.
· You can also take a taxi to Erdaobaihe town, 20 minutes away, with more choices and cheaper prices.
After dinner, take a walk in the resort. When the lights come on at night, it’s especially beautiful and quiet, with only insect sounds. Look up and you’ll see many stars, far more than in the city. One night I lay on the lawn for half an hour watching stars — I hadn’t felt so relaxed in a long time.
🌲 If you want to go out, I recommend these two places
Though this is a relaxing vacation, if you get bored and want to go out, I recommend these two spots. No need to rush, just take your time.
1. Changbai Mountain West Slope (half a day is enough)
Compared to the North Slope, the West Slope is less crowded and quieter. You need to climb 1,442 steps to reach Heaven Lake. Sounds scary but it’s okay — a slow half-hour climb.
The view of Heaven Lake from the West Slope is more open, showing the entire lake. Afterward, visit the Alpine Garden — in July, flowers are in full bloom, colorful and beautiful like a spilled palette.
Jinjiang Grand Canyon is also worth seeing — very spectacular. Walking on the boardwalk looking down, the canyon is deep and steep, quite breathtaking.
2. Neyin Ancient City
A small town with ancient-style architecture, not big, takes about an hour to stroll through. It showcases Manchu culture, with some craft shops and snack stalls. It’s quiet and not crowded.
I went in the afternoon, the slanting sunlight on the old buildings made beautiful light and shadow — took lots of photos.
💭 Some thoughts
I used to think traveling meant visiting many places and attractions, or it would be a waste. But after lying low for three days in Changbai Mountain, I feel this is true rest.
No rushing, no planning, no timing — just do what you want, or don’t do anything. Eat, walk, daydream, sleep — simple but very comfortable.
If you’re feeling tired lately and want a quiet place to stay for a few days, I really recommend Changbai Mountain. A 22°C summer, endless greenery, fresh air, and a slow pace — a few days here will recharge you.
Vacation is all about happiness, right? 🌿
