The Costa Brava in Spain is a charming stretch of coastline along the Mediterranean in northeastern Catalonia. Known as the "Wild Coast," it features cliffs, pine forests, crystal-clear bays, and enchanting fishing villages. It is not only a famous vacation destination but also a pilgrimage site for art lovers. 🎨 Art journey: the dream world of Dalí The Costa Brava is the home of surrealist master Salvador Dalí, who left a profound mark here. · Cadaqués: This fishing village with white walls and red tiles was Dalí's favorite place, where he spent his childhood and later years. · Salvador Dalí House-Museum: Located in Portlligat near Cadaqués, this labyrinthine house, converted from fisherman's huts, is the best window into Dalí's life and work. · The Dalí Triangle: In addition to his former home, you can visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres and the Gala Dalí Castle to fully appreciate the whimsical ideas of this master artist. 🌊 Stunning coastal scenery The scenery of the Costa Brava is diverse, from the sandy beaches in the south to the rugged rocks in the north, with each section offering a unique charm. · The South (La Selva): Home to the famous Blanes, this area features beautiful beaches and an old fishing village atmosphere, making it an excellent place to experience traditional Spanish culture. · The Center (Baix Empordà): This area is a blend of fashion and nature. Places like Palamós and Palafrugell boast charming bays and hilly landscapes, and are popular with the fashionable crowd from Barcelona. · The North (Alt Empordà): This is the most spectacular area. The Bay of Roses and Cap de Creus Natural Park showcase the wonders of nature and are perfect spots for hiking and ocean views. 🦞 Food and wine · Seafood feast: Freshly caught seafood from the local fishing ports is a must-try, especially at the ports of Roses and Cadaqués, where you can taste the most authentic Mediterranean flavors. · Michelin stars: The Costa Brava is a gourmet's paradise. It has been home to several Michelin-starred restaurants (such as the legendary El Bulli, which, although closed, left a profound influence; the creative cuisine of its chef, Ferran Adrià, is still reflected in local restaurants today). · Fine wine: The nearby Empordà region produces high-quality wines, which are the perfect accompaniment to a seafood dinner. 🚗 Trip suggestions · Recommended duration: 3–4 days · Transportation: The most convenient way is to fly into Girona Airport, or fly to Barcelona and take a high-speed train or bus to Blanes. · Route planning: It is recommended to travel from south to north. First, arrive in Blanes to experience the fishing village atmosphere, then head north along the coast, passing through Palamós, and finally arriving in Cadaqués and Roses. Stop at each town along the way to enjoy the sun, beaches, and food. The Costa Brava offers more than just sun and beaches; it has a deep artistic heritage and unique natural scenery, making it a destination worth savoring slowly.

Spain has Barcelona and the Costa Brava. But at the end of a winding road lies a village that feels like the edge of the world. Cadaqués is a whitewashed settlement on a rocky coast, surrounded by olive terraces and the deep blue Mediterranean. Salvador Dalí lived here. The light is extraordinary. Here is how to explore this artistic haven and save money with Trip.com. 1. The Waterfront at Dawn: White Walls and Fishing Boats Cadaqués is built around a bay, its white houses rising from the water. By 10 AM, the day-trippers arrive from Figueres. Come at 6:30 AM instead. The light is soft. The water is glass. The fishing boats bob gently. You will walk along the waterfront with only the sound of waves and the cry of gulls. It feels like a painting come to life. Pro Tip: Download the Trip.com offline map for Cadaqués. It shows you the hidden alleys and the quietest routes through the old town. The best photos are from the breakwater at sunrise, when the white houses glow against the blue sea. 2. The Dalí House: A Surrealist's Sanctuary Salvador Dalí lived in Portlligat, a small cove just outside Cadaqués. His house is now a museum, a labyrinth of rooms, terraces, and strange objects. The tour is intimate and revealing. You see where he painted, where he slept, and where he entertained. It is a glimpse into the mind of a genius. Book ahead. The museum is small and fills quickly. Money Hack: Buy your ticket on Trip.com before you go. The Dalí House requires reservations, and slots sell out weeks in advance. Booking online guarantees your entry. Go early. The first tours are the quietest, and the light in the cove is magical. 3. The Coastal Walks: Coves and Cliffs The coast around Cadaqués is wild and beautiful. The trails wind through olive groves and along rocky cliffs, leading to hidden coves with crystal-clear water. The most famous is Cala de Portlligat, but the quieter coves are better. The air smells of pine and salt. Come in the late afternoon. The light is golden, and the crowds are gone. Budget Advice: Skip the expensive boat tours. The coastal trails are free and well-marked. Bring water and wear good shoes. Check Trip.com for a "Cadaqués Coastal Hike" that includes a guide and a picnic. The guide knows the hidden coves and the best swimming spots. 4. Food That Tastes Like the Mediterranean Catalan coastal food is fresh and simple. Try Suquet de Peix — a fish stew with potatoes and garlic. Order Anchoas de Cadaqués — anchovies from the bay, a local delicacy. And do not miss Crema Catalana — a custard dessert with caramelized sugar. Where to Eat: Skip the restaurants on the waterfront. They charge for the view. Walk into the backstreets and find Casa Nun or Es Baluard, where locals eat. The food is fresh, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local wine when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a guesthouse in the old town. Look for something near the waterfront or on the hillside above the bay. You will sleep in a whitewashed room with a small balcony, a view of the sea, and the sound of waves at night. The evenings are quiet, and the stars are bright. Conclusion: Cadaqués is not a place you pass through. It is a place you escape to. It is a village of white walls and blue water, of artists and fishermen. It is a place where the light changes everything. Spain is a country of vibrant beauty, and Cadaqués is its artistic soul. Come and sit by the sea. The muse is waiting. #trip_com #Spain #Cadaques #cadaquestravel #Catalonia #SpainHiddenGems #DaliHouse #CostaBrava #BudgetTravel #EuropeGuide #traveleurope #MediterraneanCoast #ArtistsVillage #WhiteHouses #HiddenSpain

I was in Barcelona recently and decided to escape to Cadaqués for a couple of days. I’d been dying to visit this corner of the Costa Brava, famously known as the hideaway of Salvador Dalí. Being a designer, I couldn't help but get obsessed with the local color palette. The entire town is a collection of whitewashed houses with orange tile roofs that contrast beautifully with the deep blue of the Mediterranean. The narrow stone streets are bursting with vibrant pink bougainvillea. It honestly feels like stepping into a painting. I took it slow on the first day. I wandered through the historic center and climbed up to the Church of Santa María, the town's highest point. The view from up there, with all the little boats bobbing in the bay, is breathtaking. Just a tip: make sure to wear sneakers or comfortable shoes, as the cobblestone streets and inclines can be a bit tiring. One thing I noticed right away—which I found so sweet—is how pet-friendly the town is. I saw so many people strolling with their dogs along the promenade and relaxing at outdoor cafés. I missed my own pups like crazy, but it was lovely to see that it’s such a welcoming place for pets. For lunch, I picked a small restaurant overlooking the harbor. I had the fresh catch of the day and a glass of local wine; the food was delicious and perfectly light. The highlight was sitting there until sunset, watching the harbor lights flicker on as the sea breeze rolled in. It was the perfect two-day escape to tune out the noise, breathe in the fresh air, and soak up the local architecture. A short trip, but one that left me feeling incredibly inspired.

In Cadaqués (or rather, the town that flows smoothly into the village of Port Lligat) is the house where Salvador Dalí lived with Gala. The train to Figueres departs from Sants train station; the journey takes just under an hour. There's a taxi stand and a bus station right next to Figueres train station. We learned about taxis—they cost 70 euros to Cadaqués—but we regretted it and bought a bus ticket departing at 1:00 PM. Until then, we wandered around Figueres. We traveled to Cadaqués and back by bus, half the way along a stunning mountain road, the journey time being an hour and a half. We immediately bought a return ticket, as the last bus left at 6:00 PM, and it gets dark after that. Even taxi drivers don't take us in the dark; they told us it's dangerous. We arrived in Cadaqués, where we had several options: find and take an electric car to Cap de Creus (the easternmost point of the Pyrenees), take a taxi to Salvador Dalí's house, or walk to the house. We chose the latter. The walk from the bus station to Salvador Dalí's house in Port Ligat took about 25 minutes, using MapsMe. It's a beautiful town with white houses, somewhat reminiscent of Santorini, Greece, but more down-to-earth, perhaps. In front of Salvador Dalí's house sits what is believed to be an original boat with a tree growing inside it. It was in this house on the seashore that Salvador Dalí spent what he considered his happiest days with Gala. Entry to the house-museum is only possible with a group ticket, and tickets must be purchased two months in advance. This is because groups are scheduled once an hour and are limited to 8-10 people. The house is small, so there's not much room to move around. You can walk around the grounds, the garden, for free. While we were exploring, I saw boats at the pier and rushed there (I love seeing everything from the water!) It turns out there's a 90-minute boat trip to Cape Cadaqués. And it returns just before 5:30! Of course, we jumped on it. We changed into our swimsuits and headed for the boat! There were 10 of us, and we stopped for a swim in the sea and swam into a small cove under the rocks. I saw sea urchins and a starfish in their natural habitat for the first time in my life! The trip was truly unforgettable! We caught the last bus, and we didn't even run – we just walked up the hill, taking photos along the way. #spain #girona #catalog #cadacés #dali (By the way, a taxi from Port Lligat to the Cadaqués bus station costs 7 euros, but you have to call in advance.)

If you ask a Spaniard where the most beautiful small town in Spain is, they may answer you with a common saying: "Every town is a miracle. Cada villa, su maravilla." 📍Coordinates: Girona Province, Spain 👍Most recommended: Cadaqués is the most beautiful town on the Costa Brava and in the province of Girona. Abundant sunshine, a town with red-tiled white walls, and a long coastline make up the unique and charming scenery of Cadaqués. 🌟Highlight features: This beauty and tranquility of "facing the sea, blooming flowers in spring" also enchanted the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. The dreamy and perfect light and color inspired Dali's infinite imagination and countless inspirations. ✅Must experience: A 20-minute walk will take you to Portlligat, the place where Salvador Dali spent his entire life. This artist's imaginative residence, now the Dalí Museum-House (Casa Museo Gala-Dalí), opened to the public in 1997 and is one of the most visited places in Cadaqués. Visits must be scheduled in advance. 🚘Self-driving: About a 2 hour and 15 minute drive from downtown Barcelona. 🚌Public transportation: From the Fabra i Puig bus station in Barcelona city center, take bus 602 to Estacion de Autobuses Figueres (about 2 hours and 10 minutes). Take bus route 12 from Figueres bus station to arrive (approximately 1 hour).

Santa Maria de Cadaqués Church in Cadaqués Carrer Portal de Mont, 1, 3, 17488 Cadaqués, Girona The silhouette of the Santa María de Cadaqués church is easily recognizable from the sea. The Church of Santa Maria de Cadaqués is the most symbolic religious building. It consists of a nave with a small chapel, a polygonal seven-sided apse, and a square base and octagonal upper body bell tower. Surprisingly, the entire exterior of the church is white, which is a typical feature of famous maritime towns like Cadaqués. The Baroque-style altar painting in the ornate church of Santa Maria de Cadaqués on the Costa Brava. The altar decoration of the main altar stands out from the solemn appearance, dedicated to Virgen de la Esperanza. It is in Baroque style, made by Pau Costa. It is made of gilded wood and displays vivid images, such as the image of the sailor who paid for this work. There are also 9 altar decorations in the church, also made of gilded wood and smaller in size. Santa María de Cadaqués Church's Baroque altar painting detail of a fisherman climbs up this unique building located in Cadaqués, allowing us to enjoy the wonderful views. In the south, we can see the Caralanus lighthouse and the nearby island of es Cucurucuc de sa Sabolla. Santa María de Cadaqués Church is located at the highest point of the town on the Costa Brava, and is closely related to the life and work of Salvador Dalí. Its square is also one of the best views overlooking the bay of the town. Although the church was originally built in the 13th century, it was plundered by Saracen pirates (specifically Turkish pirate Barbarossa) in 1543, forcing it to be rebuilt in the following years, so the current Gothic architecture has been preserved since the 16th century. To enter the church and admire its beautiful scenery, we must walk up the steep white streets of Cadaqués. Sometimes we may have to ask locals for the correct direction, as we always get lost in the intricate alleys. Cadaqués, L'Alt Emporda.

Cadaqués is a city in AltEmpordà located on the Cap de Creus coast. The old town forms a protected historical site and is a cultural asset of national interest. As a tourist town, I feel that it lacks a sense of history and has not left much historical trace. It is just a gimmick to attract people's attention by painting all the houses white, but white towns are common in Andalusia in southern Spain. There is only Dalí's former residence for people to visit, which I think is not very attractive. The town's external transportation is very inconvenient, with few buses from the nearby transportation hub Figueres to here. If you want to spend a day taking photos, it may be worth it, but if you come for tourism and scenery, it is not a very suitable place. Many years ago, Cadaqués was chosen by many artists and intellectuals to spend short or long quiet seasons, which gave it a high reputation, especially in the circles of painters and visual artists. At the highest point in the old town is the Church of Santa Maria. This is a late Gothic building, which began in the mid-16th century and was completed in the 18th century. Inside, we find a huge Baroque wooden altar, designed by Jacint Moretó and manufactured by Pau Costa in 1725 and gilded in 1788. The relationship between Cadaqués and art was established through the painter Salvador Dalí, who, although born in Figueres, was connected to the nearby Portlligat Bay, where he built his curious residence in the 1940s. It is the easternmost town in Catalonia (and the Iberian Peninsula) and the Empordà region. The autonomous municipality occupies most of the eastern coast of the Cap de Creus peninsula. Cadaqués is isolated from the rest of Alt Empordà by the Pení Mountains, facing the sea, and was not separated from the rest of the region (by land) until the end of the 19th century. This is a village where we can find small lithium mica. Cadaqués municipality extends all the way to the easternmost point of the Cap de Creus Peninsula, which is the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. On the land, it is irregularly cut by the final slope of the Sierra de Prades, and when it reaches the sea, it forms a very rugged coastline with small beaches. The characteristic image of Cadaqués is a series of geological, architectural, and environmental elements: gray slate, olive trees and green shrubs, terraces made up of dry stone walls climbing up the ridges, and most importantly, white houses. The town of Cadaqués is located at the bottom of the bay of the same name, facing the sea, surrounded by the Pení and Puig dels Bufadors mountains and isolated from the interior. The town opens up from both sides of es Baluard, forming two large bends on the bay, followed by the coast. These areas, from the west of the old town (in the middle of Llané Gran) to the east (behind the houses on Carrer de Colom), are also included in this historical range. To understand the history of Cadaqués, one must visit the old town and get lost in the maze. The medieval origin of the small town, surrounded by walls, occupied the space of today's Cadaqués historical center. Currently, only the old fortress, which was once part of the isolation wall and is now part of the city council, is preserved. Walking through the old town, travelers can step on the village's old pavement, the rastell. This type of sidewalk is made of stones extracted from the sea, formed by the oscillation of the waves. The narrow Carrer des Call is the road that best preserves the authentic rastell pavement of the village. It takes the form of spikes, designed to absorb moisture and prevent people from slipping.
