🥾 If there’s one thing I’ll never get tired of in the UK, it’s the views you find when you go hiking. 📸🏞️ From peaceful lakes to dramatic Scottish mountains, England and Scotland have some seriously beautiful trails. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll stop every five minutes to take another photo. 😂 🌿 ENGLAND 🏞️ Lake District Glassy lakes, green hills and little villages that make you want to stay longer. Catbells is on my list for those incredible views over Derwentwater, while Scafell Pike is the challenge for anyone dreaming of reaching England’s highest peak. ⛰️ Peak District Rolling hills, rocky edges and those classic countryside views. Mam Tor is a must if you love a panoramic view, and Castleton is a lovely place to stop for something to eat afterwards. 🏴 SCOTLAND 🌄 Isle of Skye Honestly, the landscapes here almost don’t look real. The Quiraing feels otherworldly, while the Old Man of Storr is one of those places that makes you understand why people fall in love with Scotland. 🏔️ Ben Nevis For anyone craving a proper mountain adventure, this is the big one. It’s the highest mountain in the UK, but the weather can change quickly, so preparation is essential. 💚 I think the best part of hiking is that feeling when you reach a viewpoint, stop for a moment, and realise the climb was completely worth it. Tell me, are you team peaceful lakes or dramatic mountain views? 👇

I'd never experienced anything quite like this… 😳 I went underground in the Peak District expecting to explore a cave. Instead, I got into a BOAT. 🚤 Speedwell Cavern, at the foot of the spectacular Winnats Pass near Castleton, takes you down a staircase and then into a flooded former lead mine, where the tour continues by boat deep underground. The journey eventually reaches the enormous cavern containing the famous 'Bottomless Pit'. And the setting above ground is just as impressive. Winnats Pass and the surrounding Peak District are absolutely stunning — one of those places where you can spend the day thinking you've seen the best of it… and then disappear underground and discover a completely different world. At 52, I'm deliberately trying experiences I wouldn't have thought about doing years ago. Ziplines. Mountain biking. Hot-air balloons. Segways. Quad bikes. Camel rides. And now… an underground boat ride! 😂 So here's the question: 👇 Would you get into a boat and head deep underground like this? YES 🚤 — absolutely! or NO 😳 — caves are one thing… boats underground are another! And if you've been to the Peak District, what's the ONE place I shouldn't miss next? 📍 Speedwell Cavern, Castleton, Peak District, England 🇬🇧 Making the world smaller, one weekend at a time. 🌍✈️ #SpeedwellCavern #PeakDistrict #Castleton #Derbyshire #UKTravel #AdventureTravel #TravelMoments #HiddenEngland #ExploreEngland #MakingUpForLostTime

Right, so I finally traded the grey Manchester drizzle for some proper sun. Best decision ever. Did a massive 14-day loop through Kenya and Tanzania and honestly, my brain is still trying to process it all. Mostly went because I wanted to see Kilimanjaro. Spoiler: it’s huge. Even from the Kenyan side in Amboseli, with all the elephants wandering past, it felt a bit unreal. Much bigger than the Peak District, let's put it that way. We did the whole Serengeti and Maasai Mara thing. Animals everywhere. Literal dust storms of wildebeest. I just brought my battered old hiking boots that have seen way too many muddy Sunday walks, and they did the job perfectly. No fancy brand-new safari gear needed. Just bring lots of layers because the mornings are freezing. Seriously, pack a proper jacket. The Ngorongoro crater was wild too. Like a massive volcanic bowl of wildlife. Also, picked up some local black tea there which is basically keeping me alive at my marketing desk right now. If you're thinking about doing the multi-country route, definitely sort your visas a couple of months early. It’s a bit of a faff but so worth it. Right, back to spreadsheets I guess.

As one of the top 20 selected 4-star hotels in the Peak District National Park, Radisson Blu Sheffield offers more than just the standard luxury environment, full facilities and excellent service, it is more attentive to the details, which surprised me. For example, the facilities and supplies are very courteous, and the cleaning and hygiene are done meticulously, which fully reflects the professional standards of the hotel🌟. The location is excellent, which is quite convenient for both travel and travel. The rooms were clean and tidy and very comfortable to stay in; the front desk service was also very warm and attentive, making people feel at home. Overall good value for money, worth coming again. Tips, it is recommended that you make more use of the complete facilities provided by the hotel when you stay, enjoy a better experience. In addition, although breakfast is more rich, but if the variety more would be more ideal. This hotel is worth choosing again on your next trip to Sheffield! #tripbest #tripbest _reviewer

#worthitornot The Great Ridge between Mam Tor and Lose Hill is the most walked line in the Peak District, but almost nobody notices the WWII Starfish decoy site tucked on the western flank near the old Mam Tor road closure. I parked at Mam Nick (£5 all day via RingGo, card works, no cash), climbed Mam Tor (517 m) in 20 minutes, then instead of following the Instagram crowd straight to Hollins Cross, dropped left down the eroded slope to the flat heath where concrete plinths and a circular scorched-earth ring still sit—this was a 1940s "Starfish" fire decoy, lit to fake a burning Sheffield for Luftwaffe crews. There is no signboard, just bumps and rusted rebar. Then I rejoined the ridge: Hollins Cross (400 m), Back Tor (390 m), Lose Hill (475 m). Total 8 km out-and-back, 2h40 with the detour. From Hope Station (55 min from Manchester) you can walk in via Hope village in 40 minutes, but Mam Nick gives the cleaner ridge start. Wind on Mam Tor in July was 35 mph—beanie and windproof essential even in summer. The Mam Tor road itself is permanently closed to cars due to landslips; bikes and walkers use the old tarmac, which is surreally cracked and humped. Food: Castleton has a chip shop and a decent bakery 3 km off-route; I packed a meal deal from Sheffield instead. Error I made: I trusted a "shortcut" gully off Back Tor and slid on wet grass—stay on the crest path. Discussion: do you think these invisible wartime scars on a beauty-spot ridge add to the walk, or distract from the landscape?

#arrivalguide #ArrivalGuide #PeakDistrict #MamTor I took the 273 bus from Sheffield to Castleton, then walked up the old Mam Tor road (closed to cars since the 1970s landslips—now a sunken tarmac ghost road) to the Mam Tor summit trig point at 517 m. From there the ridge path west is the famous one: you stand on the edge of the Dark Peak, gritstone giving way to white limestone as you drop toward Winnats Pass. The full Mam Tor–Winnats edge walk is 7 km one way to the pass mouth, or 10 km loop back via Castleton. I did the one-way and descended into Winnats from the top stile—the gorge is a collapsed limestone cave system, 20 m walls, road squeezed through the bottom with tour coaches crawling at 10 mph. Two things nobody told me: the edge path gets brutally windy (gusts nearly took my pole at the Broken Road viewpoint), and the final descent into Winnats is on a narrow verge with traffic—do not walk the road surface, use the stile path. Parking at Mam Nick is £6 by machine (card ok). Castleton has cash-only ice cream vans but card works at the tea rooms. I wore trail shoes; the limestone is slippery when wet, so micro-spikes aren’t needed but grippy soles are. Mistake: I started at noon in August and the Edale-facing slope was baking while the Winnats side was in shadow—dawn is better. Question: is the Mam Tor ridge overrated by Instagram, or does the Winnats finish redeem it every time?

Beautiful hole, quite nice

Our group of 9 friends had an amazing caving day near Castleton with Mark Bennet. He made sure we were properly equipped, adding plenty of humor for those who underestimated their size! Mark gave a detailed briefing on what to expect, covering safety measures, and shared fascinating insights about caving history, surrounding geology, and the cave system itself. He was professional yet approachable, sharing his expertise while joining in our banter. Highly recommend Mark for any group looking to try caving.
