Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Annual review! The architecture of this niche city in Mangshi is too stunning
I have traveled to 12 cities this year,
I have seen a lot of buildings along the way,
I saw European retro buildings in Dalian,
I saw Qianhu Miao Village in Guizhou,
I saw the characteristic small town of the Bai nationality in Dali,
And the Dai-style huts in Mangshi,
The most stunning for me are the golden and silver towers in Mangshi,
Recommendation reason:
This niche border town has Southeast Asian-style buildings,
The golden and silver towers are the most representative, and you can experience Dai-style flavor without going abroad,
There are not many tourists here, the experience is very good, highly recommended.
🌈Mangshi 2-day tour route:
Tuanjie Road Pedestrian Street—Shubao Tower—Xinwan Factory Night Market
Menghuan Silver Tower—Menghuan Big Golden Tower—Dai Ancient Town
🔹Menghuan Big Golden Tower: You can look up in many places in Mangshi
This golden tower, navigate directly to the Big Golden Tower, parking at the door is 5 yuan/time, ticket 40r, you can take pictures at the door.
🔹Silver Tower: The silver white tower, 100 meters away from the Golden Tower, is a good place to watch the sunset and the night view of Mangshi. The top of the tower is hung with wind chimes, swaying in the wind, crisp and pleasant.
In addition to these, we feel that we can go to the Dongfeng Wholesale Market and the Hongli Comprehensive Market. These two places are not far apart, and the fruits and vegetables in the market are very good, and there are some Southeast Asian trinkets

Explore the frontier town and check in at the exotic Menghuan Golden Pagoda!
🏯It's not abroad, nor is it Xishuangbanna, this is the Menghuan Golden Pagoda in Dehong Mangshi, full of exotic charm! As a landmark building of Dehong Mangshi, it is a must-visit spot that cannot be missed!
😉The towering and spectacular golden pagoda shows its brilliance. Under the sunshine, it is even more dazzling. I am very fortunate to have watched the wonderful and lively Dai peacock dance under this golden pagoda, which is said to be a dance handed down from ancient times.
☀️The golden pagoda is an octagonal four-door design, hollow inside, it is a hollow Buddhist pagoda, a holy place for the local people to worship and pray. When I went a few days ago, two of the four doors were opened, and you can enter the pagoda to worship after taking off your shoes.
👏At its highest point, it is topped with a 2.3-ton golden dome, which is the first golden Buddhist pagoda in China and the first hollow Buddhist pagoda in Asia.
📷Recommended photo spots:
1⃣At the entrance of the scenic area (when there are many people, there may be multiple backgrounds)
2⃣At the four entrances of the pagoda (it is recommended to find a door that is not open)
3⃣Use other slightly lower pagodas in the scenic area as the background to take atmosphere photos.
💴Ticket: 40 at the scenic spot/38 online
🚗Transportation: Taxi or self-driving

✨Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda
As the iconic buildings of Mangshi, the Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda are one of the must-visit attractions. The exterior of the Golden Pagoda is very spectacular, you can take a taxi to get there, while the Silver Pagoda requires a ticket, you can take a sightseeing car or walk to get there.
📸Recommended photo spots: The bookstore under the Golden Pagoda is an excellent photo spot, where you can see the sunset outside, the scenery is very beautiful.
✨Mangshi Dai Ancient Town
The night view of the ancient town is very beautiful, but there are basically no people during the day, and there are many stalls and snacks at night.
✨Unity Street
A bustling block with Southeast Asian style, it's very photogenic on the street side.
✨Tree-wrapped Pagoda
A pagoda surrounded by big trees, but there are quite a lot of cars parked around, you need to find a good angle for taking pictures.
✨New Play Factory
A trendy block with graffiti walls, but it's not popular, and there's not much to eat.
Other recommended attractions: Dongfeng Wholesale Market and Hongli Comprehensive Market
🈹About the price: Since the guide does not mention the ticket prices and other expenses of each attraction, it is impossible to give a specific price summary. It is recommended to inquire about the ticket prices and other expenses of each attraction before traveling, so as to make a budget.
🚗Transportation: Check the flight and hotel information in advance, and choose the appropriate transportation to get there.
📸Photography tips: When taking pictures, you can pay attention to finding different angles and positions to get better shooting effects. For example, in the bookstore under the Golden Pagoda, you can use the floor-to-ceiling windows to shoot the sunset outside, and you can get very beautiful scenic photos.
Environmental protection: Also pay attention to protecting the environment when visiting attractions, do not litter, etc.
In summary, Mangshi is a city full of exotic charm and beautiful scenery, and I hope this guide can help you plan your trip better!

South-East Asian Templevibes in Mangshi
Mangshi in Dehong is a small city in Yunnan province, in the far Southwest of China. It's populated by Dai minority and other minorities. There are many Buddhist temples and Pagoda with a Thai flair, as the cultures are similar.
Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda is one of the biggest temples in the area. We visited the temple with our motorbike and stayed about 2 hours visiting and exploring. You can go with a guide or explore alone.

Meng Huan Silver Tower Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Dehong Travel | It's a real loss if you don't come here!
⚱️When traveling to Dehong, the Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Menghuan Silver Pagoda are a must-visit. The two towers stand on the Leiyarang Mountain on the edge of Mang City, reflecting each other, and from a distance, they look like the lively eyes of Mang City.
📍Location: At the top of Leiyarang Mountain by the Peacock Lake in Mang City
🎫Ticket: Both the Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda are 40r
🗼The Menghuan Golden Pagoda legend says that 'Sakyamuni' lived here when he was reincarnated as a golden rooster in his lifetime. The entire pagoda is magnificent, and it's very photogenic just taking pictures at the entrance. Inside, there are many precious items of Buddhism, which are worth seeing.
🦚In addition to the pagoda, the Peacock Dance is also very exciting. This is a folk dance where people wear peacock tails and imitate its dance. It's very lifelike and eye-catching. The peacock's spreading wings and drinking from the spring, the dance is rich in sculpture, each with different beauty and artistic conception.
🌙 The Silver Pagoda is hand-carved by craftsmen using Dai silver and other materials. It is a display of Dai architectural art and a heritage of local minority culture. To see the Silver Pagoda, you must first go to the top of the mountain. The sky and the big moon are really good for taking pictures. Everyone is lining up, and it's not too late to take pictures in the square later. Here, you can eat some ethnic snacks, look at the sea of flowers and the cityscape of Mang City, and find a place for your soul.
🗼Walk around the pagoda three times, pray for good luck, meditate quietly with the Sanskrit sounds coming from the Golden Pagoda, and give your weary body and mind a break from the mundane world. Or enjoy a sunset at the Menghuan Silver Pagoda surrounded by the fragrance of flowers, and watch the pagoda change into different colors and artistic conceptions.

China is a very suitable place for winter residence | Dehong
China's most suitable city for winter residence, in addition to the well-known cities such as Sanya, Beihai, and Banna, there is also a place that is very suitable for winter residence, that is, Dehong in Yunnan.
I have been traveling in Yunnan for half a month, from Shangri-La, Lijiang, Dali to Kunming, Dehong, I found that Dehong is the most comfortable, the daytime temperature is 24°, you can wear a thin long sleeve, not cold or hot, very comfortable.
And compared to Sanya, Beihai, Banna, Dehong has relatively fewer tourists, the cost of living is lower, and the cost of food, accommodation and transportation is lower, and the cost performance is relatively high.
I really like Dehong, in addition to the comfortable climate, the people here are also very enthusiastic, not xenophobic, and still maintain a relatively simple state.
I like Dehong, in addition to the enthusiastic people, there are also many delicious foods here, a wide variety of fruits, and the barbecue is very delicious (a local said that he went to Zibo, Shandong, and still thinks that the barbecue in Mangshi is more delicious).
I like Dehong, also because the local customs here are rich, the buildings are golden and brilliant, just like in Southeast Asia.
PS: The photos of the big gold tower and silver tower in Mangshi are really outstanding.
If you want to find a winter resort with a lower cost of living, Dehong is very good.

Menghuan Great Silver Pagoda | Landmark of Mang City, experience the Southeast Asian vibe without leaving the country
Menghuan Great Silver Pagoda, one of the landmarks of Mang City, is a newly built Theravada Buddhist stupa with a silver-white base, shining brightly. Without leaving the country, you can also enjoy the Southeast Asian atmosphere.
The main pagoda of the Great Silver Pagoda was built in 2010, with a height of 66 meters and a diameter of 46 meters. The body of the pagoda is composed of 80 smaller pagodas, with the first layer consisting of 12 small pagodas, symbolizing the twelve links of dependent origination. The decorations on the pagoda body and the platform spire are all hand-carved by craftsmen using materials such as Dai silver and Du silver, with each spire and each piece of decoration embodying the exquisite skills and devout faith of the Dai artisans.
In the areas where the Dai people live, the Great Silver Pagoda is known as the building with the most numbers and the richest types, and it is also the inheritance of the local ethnic minority culture. The main attractions include the Entrance to the Great Thousand Worlds, Handprint Good Affinity Area, Enlightenment Square, Silver Wheel Square, and Silver Pagoda Flower Language area. Here, whether you are walking through the pagodas with hands clasped or sitting quietly on the corridor, your heart will find a sense of peace.
🌈Highlights:
✅Mirror of the Sky: On the west side of the silver pagoda, there is a special spot where the blue sky and the silver pagoda create a stunning reflection, just like the 'Mirror of the Sky'.
✅Above the Moon: Next to the Mirror of the Sky, there is a crescent moon where you can sit or lie down on the 'moon', with the Menghuan Great Silver Pagoda in the background.
✅Sign Language Area: In the traditional culture of the Dai people, 'hand gestures' are used to convey meanings. There are 24 hand gestures here, each representing a different meaning. You can imitate them to take many popular photos.
🎫Ticket: 40 yuan, online price 38 yuan
🚗Transportation: Take bus routes 13, 1, and 3 temporary combined line, or drive or take a taxi
❤️Tips: 1️⃣If you want to capture the sky scene, it's best to come in the afternoon to avoid the effects of backlighting; 2️⃣It is recommended to wear brightly colored clothes to contrast with the silver pagoda, avoid wearing white, otherwise, you will blend in with the pagoda background; 3️⃣Beautiful ladies can rent a set of Dai ethnic clothing for more beautiful photos.

Shubao Tower Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
I embarked on a journey of exotic charm in Mang City
1. The Mang City Golden Pagoda (Menghuan Big Golden Pagoda) is open until 10 pm, with an admission fee of 40 yuan. The pagoda is located on a mountain (you can ride a small electric scooter to the foot of the mountain, then walk 1 kilometer uphill). It can also be seen from some places at the foot of the mountain. I went there at night, and the close-up view at night is very beautiful. The inside of the pagoda is hollow, housing a large Buddhist hall. There is also an observation deck in the scenic area where you can see the cityscape. The estimated visiting time is about 30 minutes.
2. The Mang City Silver Pagoda (Menghuan Silver Pagoda) is very close to the Golden Pagoda, with an admission fee of 40 yuan. I visited during the day, and after entering, you have to climb a bit to get there. You cannot enter the Silver Pagoda, but you can see the Golden Pagoda while climbing the Silver Pagoda. If you don't want to go inside the Golden Pagoda, visiting the Silver Pagoda is also an option. Climbing the Silver Pagoda takes about 1 hour of visiting time.
3. Peacock Lake is very close to the foot of the Golden and Silver Pagoda mountains and is a local walking trail for exercise. It's a nice place to take a leisurely stroll if you have the time.
4. Bodhi Temple is accessible by a small electric scooter in the city, and it also houses a Buddhist hall. It's a nice spot to visit while wandering around the city, and there was no admission fee when I entered.
5. The Dai Minority Ancient Town is a commercial pedestrian street with an ethnic minority style. Going there in the evening to browse the night market, eat from a hot pot, and take a walk is a good choice.
6. Shubao Pagoda is a distinctive pagoda located in the city. The pagoda is inside a tree, and you can reach it by taking a walk during the day.
7. Mengbana Xi Rare Garden has an admission fee of 40 yuan. Inside, there are mostly bamboo forests to see, and the main attraction is to learn about some of the local precious timbers (silicified wood). The visit is quite enjoyable. There are also many peacocks raised inside, and you can get close to them (when I visited, the male peacocks were frantically displaying their feathers, which was very beautiful). The visiting time inside is about 1.5 hours.
8. Peacock Valley Forest Park is 15 kilometers away from the city by car. I drove there myself. The admission fee plus shuttle bus is 98 yuan per person, with a package ticket of 138 yuan (including all the chargeable attractions inside and the shuttle bus). If you don't buy the package ticket, some attractions inside require an additional fee: jungle leap is 20 yuan, glass tower is 10 yuan, and glass walkway is 30 yuan (you can bargain during the off-season). The Peacock Garden and Hundred Birds Garden do not require extra money. There are fixed-time peacock flying performances, and I watched the 12:30 show. There are also other animals to see, and a highlight is seeing the white peacocks. You can take close-up photos with the peacocks in the Peacock Garden. The visiting time is about 2-3 hours.
LEILA MAY
Jinggu Tree-wrapped Pagoda
The Mengwo Buddhist Temple Twin Pagoda, commonly known as the Tree-wrapped Pagoda and Pagoda-wrapped Tree, was initially built by Wei Yuan Tuguan Renhan Chen during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is a Buddhist pagoda of the Southern Transmission, with a square base, each side 4 meters long, made of red sandstone in the form of a multi-layered lotus. The pagoda body is made of green bricks in the shape of a gourd. The Tree-wrapped Pagoda is 10.7 meters high, and the pagoda has been wrapped by a Bodhi tree, with the tree crown about 25 meters high. The Pagoda-wrapped Tree is 7.2 meters high, and the Bodhi tree on the top of the pagoda is about 20 meters high. The bodies of the twin pagodas are carved with Buddhist stories, folk tales, and stone carvings of animals, plants, and flowers. It is a precious material for studying the religion, culture, and history of the Dai people, and has high historical and artistic value.

Successfully followed the trend to Mangshi for reverse tourism!
This Spring Festival came to Mangshi for reverse tourism
It's really the most successful trend-following time🥹
The Southeast Asian style of this border town is simply 💯
It's too suitable for dawdling, sunbathing and visiting temples!!
1️⃣Menghuan Gold Tower/Menghuan Silver Tower
If you like to take photos, I recommend the Silver Tower more, you can overlook the two big towers from the top, very Southeast Asian, the Silver Tower is very photogenic!
🌅It's best to go around 10 o'clock in the morning or around 6 o'clock in the afternoon, it won't be very hot and the sunlight is also soft~
2️⃣Tree Wrapped Tower
🌳The first sight is super shocking!! The big tree wraps around the tower body and grows, but the tower only has cracks but does not break, sitting under the tree to rest is very calming.
3️⃣Hongli Comprehensive Market
🥭I really became a fruit expert in Mangshi! This vegetable market is very regular, there are also fair scales and so on, the variety of fruits is rich and super sweet!
4️⃣Unity Street
🌴You can see the plane flying low! Both sides are full of coconut trees! It has the taste of a Southeast Asian tropical small town.
5️⃣Tea Bran Shampoo
💆You must must experience!! With shoulder and neck massage, it's very cheap! During the Spring Festival, those popular stores either closed or were full, so I randomly chose one across the market, all are Burmese little sisters who press very comfortably✌️
TranquilDestinations
People are asking like crazy if this is Thailand, it's Thailand's Mang City!
Mang City is not busy, a slow-paced border town!
📍Detailed address:
Menghuan Big Golden Pagoda As the westernmost border town in Yunnan, Mang City is also the capital of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture.
This small city is home to five ethnic minorities and Han people who have lived here for generations. The rich and colorful ethnic culture and beliefs have long been integrated into life.
🚉Travel Guide:
To fly directly to Mang City, you need to transfer in Kunming.
👍Most Recommended:
Menghuan Big Golden Pagoda
China's first golden Buddha pagoda, Asia's first hollow Buddha pagoda. The golden light is dazzling, the view is spectacular and sacred, the ticket is 38 yuan, you can see it from the city, under the sun, opposite the big golden pagoda, is a privately built scenic spot, which is also very spectacular, the white pagoda body is very photogenic, and you can see the golden pagoda opposite, suitable for punching!
Mengbana Xi Zhenqi Garden
This is a private scenic spot, it feels more like a private garden, there are all kinds of rare animals and plants inside, the most interesting thing is the peacocks that are free-range in the park, occasionally you can see peacocks opening their screens!
Tree Wrapped Pagoda
At first glance, it's a huge bodhi tree, but there's a pagoda hidden inside, the pagoda is under the tree, the tree is wrapped around the pagoda, the top is lush, the bottom is the Buddha pagoda shining, it's a unique view in the pagoda.
New Play Factory
Cultural and creative area, there are many food murals, many local snacks, the fruit here is also very cheap!
Bodhi Temple
Han Dai style architecture, the temple is not big, very photogenic
Unity Street
It's right there at the Bodhi Temple, both sides are tall coconut trees, a strong Southeast Asian style!
About Accommodation
It is recommended to stay near Mang City Square or Unity Street, where there are many homestays, about 50 per person, the most important thing is that it is convenient to go anywhere.
📝Note tips:
Mang City is not big, it's very suitable for a weekend getaway, it's recommended to rent an electric car and you can run the whole city.

One Village, Two Countries Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Driving 5,000 kilometers in Yunnan, here are two southwestern frontier towns you can't miss
📍Ruili - One Village, Two Countries
Step into two countries with one foot, connect two countries with one bridge, grow two countries with one tree
Experience two countries with one swing, it's a typical village that spans two nations
And it's the most beautiful part of the Ruili-Myanmar border.
📍Mang City - Golden Pagoda, Silver Pagoda, Mengbana Xi
The Golden and Silver Pagodas are like a royal couple, maintaining the balance and nature of everything in Mang City.
The majesty of the Golden Pagoda is like the awe-inspiring presence of a king
While the Silver Pagoda is like a gentle queen, everything is so beautiful and tender
'Mengbana Xi' is a transliteration from the Dai language, a name of an ideal kingdom in the Dai Buddhist scriptures, meaning a magical, beautiful, and rich place. Being in the garden feels like stepping into a heavenly paradise. Exotic flowers and rare trees, peacocks roaming freely, bamboo forests in their splendor, it's an overwhelming beauty. The 'Premier Zhou Enlai Memorial Pagoda' in the garden adds to the ambiance, and the stories of Premier Zhou also resonate deeply with people.

Ruili Self-Driving One-Day Tour Complete Guide
My itinerary: Depart from Mang City (leave early due to bad roads) - Moli Tropical Rainforest - Single Tree Becomes Forest - General Buddha Temple (under major renovation) - Jiedonglao Banyan Tree King - One Village Two Countries - Ruili Port - Ruili Live Crabs - Stay in Ruili
🌸 Moli Tropical Rainforest 4🌟 (Recommended)
More interesting than the tropical rainforest of the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, with various ancient trees reaching to the sky, very cool.
Waterfalls over 60 meters high and golden Thai-style pavilions in the forest.
🌸 Single Tree Becomes Forest 2🌟 (Not recommended)
The scenic area is very small, with a thousand-year-old banyan tree but not as tall as the Banyan Tree King in Jiedonglao.
🌸 General Buddha Temple
Drones are restricted, and you can't go to the golden pagoda in the back, don't go recently! 🙅
🌸 Jiedonglao Banyan Tree King 4🌟 (Recommended)
A 500-year-old banyan tree, more like a single tree becomes a forest than the actual Single Tree Becomes Forest.
The largest rattan-woven Buddha in China.
🌸 One Village Two Countries 4🌟 (Recommended)
After 4 p.m., there are fewer tourists and the lighting is also good.
The most photogenic is the red brick pagoda, with a coffee shop on one side, also great for taking photos.
Myanmar and China are really separated by just an iron fence, after 5 p.m. many children play near the fence, they will ask for money directly in Chinese, and curse if you don't give.
🌸 Ruili Port 5🌟 (Must go!)
Searching for 'Sister Tells Port' won't find the national gate, you have to search for Ruili Port.
Be sure to go in the evening, the national gate glows under the setting sun and looks very beautiful.
Facing the national gate, on the left hand side there is a 'Ends of the Earth' large stone monument and the sign for the end of National Highway 320.
Returning to Ruili city from the national gate requires going through a customs channel, which is slightly congested; even if you take the no-declaration channel, you have to roll down the car window for a trunk inspection.
🌸 Ruili Live Crabs
The meat is fresh and firm, and the spicy flavor is very delicious.
Business starts at 16:00 in the afternoon.
Natalie Martin
A village, two countries
Before setting off, I had anxiously awaited the warmth of the sun amidst the biting cold winds. Upon arrival, I was instantly enveloped by sunlight. The subtropical climate is very dry, the damp and chilly air evaporated, and the cold melted away. The moment I looked up at the sun, the sunlight was splendid, and so was I. Yet, the intense ultraviolet rays showed no mercy, heating up the body relentlessly. This is 'Mengmao'—Ruili.
On one side is China, on the other Myanmar. A single village spans two nations, one can step into two countries, a bridge connects two realms, and the national boundary line splits it in half, sometimes making a foreign land feel not so foreign.
The newly installed wire fences, the security checks at the checkpoints along the way, have strengthened the border management. Being adjacent to Northern Myanmar is not so frightening after all. Once you're here, leave a memory behind in this auspicious and beautiful frontier town.

Ruili Tour | The Declining Jade Capital, not recommended for a special trip before the Spring Festival departure from Dali
Ruili Tour | The Declining Jade Capital, not recommended for a special trip before the Spring Festival departure from Dali. On the way from Dali, self-driving through Mangshi to Ruili Tengchong, this small town on the China-Myanmar border was once a bustling jade capital.
It is not recommended to travel to tourist spots just to check in and pay for the experience.
My rating for Ruili is higher than Mangshi, perhaps because I had no expectations, or perhaps because it was an eye-opening experience.
See for yourself and then decide whether to go to Ruili.
Picture to Picture One Village Two Countries 39
The place I was most looking forward to in the whole journey, a natural village divided into two countries by the national border. Thinking that since there are still villagers living inside, it must be full of cultural collisions. As I entered and went my way, what did I see? A national park under construction? The only high ground that overlooks the other side requires a second fee... A water well and a swing are check-in spots... Through the green iron fence, you can see the dilapidated village in Myanmar, with Burmese people working by the roadside greeting me in Chinese. The busiest place in the whole scenic area is the red brick building, where those who take photos can get good shots, but this is not what I wanted to see here. For those who like red brick buildings, please go directly to Maitreya Dongfeng Charm.
Picture to 0: The Great National Gate + Duty-Free Shop
A five-minute tour, for friends with nostalgia, you might want to take a look. The duty-free shop is not recommended, feels iia.
A five-minute tour, for friends with nostalgia, you might want to take a look. The duty-free shop is not recommended, feels jia. Pictures 12 to 15: Delong Jade Capital
The most surprising part of the journey was the night market in Delong Jade Capital, so this is what raw stone trading is like. In a large shed of thousands of square meters, completely dark without lights. Sellers use lamps for viewing raw stones to search in the darkness (here I must praise the night mode of the iPhone, which is completely invisible on site). As the saying goes, it is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books, and today I have gained new insights. I was wondering why the locals asked us to go at night, and when I first arrived, I saw rows of jade stalls and felt nothing, until I walked into the darkness at the back, then I suddenly realized.
If you want to buy jade, go directly to Duobao City, there are quite a few choices. End of pictures: Ruili Live Crabs
The live crabs that I queued for half an hour and didn't get to eat in Mangshi, Ruili here is the main store. Two people ate for $350 without drinks, and I am very satisfied with the freshness and tenderness of the crabs, recommended.
In summary,
Ruili's tourism resources are not enough to justify a special trip, the whole city exudes a sense of depression, not recommended for a special trip.
