Mount Aso is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worth a visit.

Taking the "Aso Boy" special train from Kumamoto to Aso Station takes less than an hour and a half. After arriving at Aso Station, you need to transfer to the No. 8 mountain bus to the popular Aso Volcano attraction, "Kusasenri no Hama." The one-way trip takes 27 minutes and costs 1000 yen, which isn't cheap. Credit cards are accepted, but transportation cards are not. However, Aso Volcano itself is free to enter, so consider it your entrance fee! Kusasenri offers the best vantage point for viewing Aso Volcano, with stunning lake and mountain scenery, as well as the vast Kusasenri grassland. People are riding horses and herding sheep, truly embodying the phrase "the wind blows the grass low, revealing cattle and sheep." There's also an "Aso Volcano Museum" in Kusasenri; although I didn't go inside, I believe it provides a better understanding of Aso Volcano's geology and background! The scenery along the way up and down Aso Volcano is just as beautiful as both Aso Volcano and Kusasenri no Hama, especially the panoramic views of Aso City – absolutely breathtaking!
