Orange Island, Changsha

Orange island park is a pleasant place to visit right in the middle of the river running through the city. It’s got a convenient location with metro line 2 stopping there directly and a bridge you can walk across if you so choose as well. The park is quite long and boasts a few different highlights such as a “beach” park, various gardens, ponds and arbor groves to walk through, as well as a large statue of the head of a young Mao. The head has a museum focused on his early life as well, though this was closed for renovations when we went. The park is free to walk through but it also features a shuttle and tram system that costs about 45RMB and allows for up to 5 hop ons at designated stops. The tram is worth the price if you want to explore the entire island without burning yourself out. We visited right after climbing mt Yuelu and found the tram quite helpful! It’s really a lovely walk through the island, with a few nice buildings like a pagoda, though there’s not much in the way of other activities or historical/architectural sights to see. I suggest visiting on a clear day for some open air strolling- ctto #themeparks#nationalpark#beaches
