Takkakaw Falls

#mytraveldiary Takkakaw Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies, located just about 1.5 hours west of Banff in Yoho National Park (across the provincial border in British Columbia). Situated along the Yoho Valley Road, a short drive from the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). About 50 km (30 miles) from Banff town. The falls are easily accessible by car with a short walk from the parking lot. Height: Approximately 373 meters (1224 feet) — one of Canada’s tallest waterfalls and among the tallest in North America. The name "Takkakaw" means “magnificent” or “magnificent waterfall” in the Cree language. The falls are fed by the glacier-fed Yoho River, so the water flow is highest in late spring and early summer when snowmelt is at its peak.
