🏔’The Last Shangri-La’🏔

Nestled in remote western Sichuan, Yading nature reserve is known for its holy, snow-capped mountains. To get there you either fly into Daocheng airport (the highest airport in the world at just over 4000m) or take your time exploring western Sichuan by bus before arriving at your final destination of Yading. I would suggest coming by bus as you are at risk of getting altitude sickness otherwise. Once in Daocheng, catch a local bus to the nature reserve, and stay at the hotels inside to maximize your time exploring. After checking in mid-morning, we spent our first day exploring the shorter walk to Pearl Lake. The second day we rose early and made the trek to Milk Lake and Five Color Lake. Even though it was a foggy summer, the views were still gorgeous and the people were aplenty. Bring food as there is nothing available inside (not even hot water so don’t bring noodles). You will spend the entire time craning your neck as you gawk in wonder at the gorgeous mountains and spectacular scenery. #mountainview
