Ayang Tibetan Guesthouse, Shangri-la, Sichuan

Address - Located in Shangri-la (Riwa), Sichuan the entrance to Yading Nature Reserve. It's off the main road near restaurants and the main guesthouses in town. Ayang Tibetan Guesthouse isn't on trip.com or ctrip.com, but foreigners can stay here. You can find it on Meituan. I stayed in two guesthouses on separate occasions before and after visiting Yading Nature Reserve. This one was exceptional. Ambiance/Facilities - The building has been in the family for multiple generations. When walking the streets searching for a place to stay this upon my arrival this Guesthouse immediately caught my eye with its charm. Every building in the village has similar architectural design with the exception of one, Ayang Tibetan Guesthouse. It's clear it is much older, and possibly the oldest building in town. I had already selected another option, but knew when returning to the village I would stay here. The guesthouse has amazing facilities and ambiance inside and out. It has a French villa feel on the outside, but authentic Tibetan feel on the inside. The living areas are well decorated with Tibetan artifacts and family heirlooms. There is seating for eating inside and out, as well as a balcony. Rooms are large with comfortable beds. Showers are separated from the toilet, which is nice. Good amenities such as shampoo, toothpaste, and shower gel. There are TVs in the room. Highlights - The hosts are very helpful and accommodating. They had local Tibetan dress that could be used for free, usually Chinese pay big bucks for this opportunity in other locales such as Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-la, but here we could do it for free. The hosts helped us select clothing, put it on, and take pictures. They made available empty rooms to take pictures as well. The guesthouse is featured in a popular Chinese movie about Daocheng and Yading Nature Reserve. You can stay in the room shown in the movie. The town is small and charming and this Guesthouse should be a top consideration. They helped us book a taxi to Daocheng, about a 90 minute drive, for 50 RMB per person. Avg. Price per Room - 200 RMB for large queen bed, a room with a living area was 300 RMB. Rating - 5 of 5
