Easy roaming on the Penang Hill Cable Car 🚠⛰️

The Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) cable car has a history of over a hundred years and has been operating since 1923! Riding on this cable car, you can easily climb to the top of the flag-raising summit at an altitude of 735 meters (2,411 feet) in about 5 minutes, without having to walk until you are out of breath😆.

Located in the central part of the Malaysian island of Penang, Penang Hill is a rolling, ultra-densely vegetated highland consisting of many hills, about 9 kilometers from downtown George Town. When you reach the top of the mountain, the view is super wide, overlooking the Penang Strait and the magnificent view of Seberang Perai 🥰, and there are two temples: one is a Hindu temple and the other is a Muslim temple, feel the multicultural atmosphere on the top of the mountain!

After strolling around Penang Hill, taking pictures of the beautiful scenery and taking pictures, we then took the cable car down the mountain and returned to the George District to continue our fun. This relaxing itinerary is really suitable for friends who want to slowly relax up and inhale oxygen ~

I recommend you have time to experience this century-old cable car and nature Combo in Penang! October is more light rain, remember to bring an umbrella, the sky is not bad, overlooking the panoramic view of Georgetown.

🇲🇾 Penang Solo Trip | 3 Days 2 Nights - Traveling Solo Can Be Fun Too

📍 George Town, Penang, Malaysia
📅 15–17 October 2026

I decided to fly to Penang alone for 3 days and 2 nights, intending to spend time with myself, stroll around, take photos, try local food, and experience the charming atmosphere of this old city.

DAY 1 | First Night in Penang 🌙

After arriving in Penang, I took a Grab into the city and stayed at Mokozoyo Hotel before heading out to explore Love Lane and Chulia Street.

The night was very lively, with many street food options. I tried satay and a refreshing watermelon juice, then strolled around the city at a leisurely pace. It was my first night truly experiencing Penang's atmosphere.

DAY 2 | Penang Hill & Street Art 🌿

I started the day with breakfast and coffee before heading to Penang Hill. I took the funicular up to see the city view from above.

The view was beautiful, the atmosphere was great, but I have to say, it was very hot! 😅 I recommend bringing an umbrella, water, and comfortable walking shoes.

In the afternoon, I went for a stroll through the street art area of George Town. This city has beautiful old buildings, murals, and tons of photo opportunities.

In the evening, I tried several more local dishes. Some were delicious, others not so much my liking, but it added to the excitement of traveling alone.

DAY 3 | Café Hopping & Souvenirs ☕

My last day started at Toh Soon Cafe. I tried their toast and cold drinks – a simple but satisfying breakfast.

For lunch, I stopped at Black Kettle Café and ordered the Tomyam Linguine Set Lunch with mushroom soup and an Iced Honey Lemon.

To be honest, the mushroom soup was a bit salty, the pasta and chicken were quite tough, but the chicken was seasoned well. The Honey Lemon was refreshing and not too sweet – my favorite drink of the meal! 🍋

Before heading back, I stopped at Ghee Hiang to buy some famous Penang souvenirs, then picked up my luggage at the hotel and headed to the airport.

💡 Tips for solo travelers in Penang:

✅ Stay in the George Town area for easy access to walking and restaurants.
✅ Use Grab to get to more distant locations like Penang Hill.
✅ Prepare comfortable walking shoes, an umbrella, and plenty of water because it's very hot.
✅ If you enjoy taking photos... Allow extra time for exploring the street art area.
✅ Buy souvenirs before you leave, but don't forget to factor in carry-on baggage allowance.

Summary of this trip 💙

Penang is a great city for solo travel. You can stroll through the old town, try new foods, relax in cafes, and spend quality time with yourself.

Not every dish was delicious, and not everything went according to plan, but everything became a memorable experience.

3 days and 2 nights may seem short, but it was enough to enjoy solo travel again 🌏
