Nottingham Castle & Historic Quarter Address – Nottingham Castle, Lenton Road, Nottingham NG1 6EL, England Highlights – Perched on a sandstone outcrop, the newly renovated Nottingham Castle mixes history with modern storytelling. The galleries inside trace everything from rebellion to Robin Hood, and the views over the city from the grounds are worth the visit alone. We also explored the nearby Castle Quarter, where old pubs, medieval caves, and winding alleys give a glimpse of the city’s layered past. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem (claiming to be England’s oldest pub) felt like stepping into folklore. Rating – 8/10 City of Caves & National Justice Museum Address – City of Caves: Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, Nottingham NG1 7LS | National Justice Museum: High Pavement, NG1 1HN Highlights – Beneath the city lies an entire network of sandstone caves, some dating back to the Dark Ages. The City of Caves tour was immersive and unexpectedly eerie former dwellings, air raid shelters, and tannery pits hidden below modern streets. Afterwards, we visited the National Justice Museum, housed in an old courthouse and jail. Interactive exhibits and preserved cells made the city’s law-and-order past come alive. A darker side of history, but fascinating. Rating – 8.5/10 Wollaton Hall & Deer Park Address – Wollaton Hall, Nottingham NG8 2AE, England Highlights – Just outside the city center, Wollaton Hall is a grand Elizabethan mansion set in rolling parkland. It’s famously known as Wayne Manor from The Dark Knight Rises, but the real-life building is just as dramatic. Inside, there’s a natural history museum, but the real charm was outside herds of deer wandering freely, tree-lined paths, and still lakes. A peaceful break from the bustle, especially in golden late-afternoon light. Rating – 9/10
