My walk through the Barnes trail in Richmond upon Thames

There’s something about an evening walk along the Barnes Trail that feels like stepping out of the rush of London and into a quieter, gentler rhythm. I began at King Henry’s Mound in Richmond Park, climbing to the top just as the day was winding down. From there, the view opened up beautifully, the Thames snaking through the trees and, in the distance, the dome of St Paul’s perfectly framed. It’s a sight that feels both timeless and grounding, and I lingered for a while, letting the hush of the park settle in. From the park, I followed the path into Richmond town centre, where the streets gradually grew livelier as evening approached. The Clock Tower stood tall, marking the heart of the town, while nearby I came across the Church of St Elizabeth of Portugal. Its peaceful Roman Catholic character seemed to add another layer of history to the already rich atmosphere of Richmond. As I wandered further, the daylight slipped away and the Christmas lights flickered on. One by one, shopfronts and lampposts were draped in glowing garlands, bathing the streets in a warm, festive light. Families strolled past, friends gathered outside cafés, and the town seemed to sparkle with quiet joy.
