Savannah, a Southern Town in the United States - Filming Location of Forrest Gump

Savannah, Georgia, is one of the most beautiful and vintage southern towns in the United States. Here you can find horse-drawn carriages on the streets, oak trees draped with Spanish moss, filming locations from Forrest Gump, and European-style churches. Just a few steps away is a city square park, and you can also take a stroll along the Savannah River. There are ancient plantation ruins and Victorian-style houses here. The summer here can be very hot and humid, so it is recommended to avoid the high-temperature periods for a better experience. My two-day itinerary is arranged as follows: Day 1: Historic District (Chippewa Square, filming location of Forrest Gump / Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist - Forsyth Park - stroll along the Savannah River) Day 2: Wormsloe Historic Site. Historic District + Chippewa Square + Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist: The historic district here preserves traditional architectural styles, including European and Victorian-era 2-3 story cottages that tell the history of America. Some houses are famous for being purchased by celebrities and plantation owners during the American Civil War. Some are old post offices, banks, and others were built by early European settlers. The third picture shows a famous local house, a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts. There are many city square parks here, so you can casually walk around the historic district. If you get tired, you can take a vintage bus. Chippewa Square is the filming location of the famous "Life is like a box of chocolates" scene from Forrest Gump, but the bench from that scene is no longer there. The churches here are also very beautiful. The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is one of the more famous Catholic churches, located next to Lafayette Square. The interior of the church is also stunning. Forsyth Park: This is a classic check-in spot and a great place for locals to run and stroll. It features a landmark fountain. Nearby is the Savannah College of Art and Design. Strolling along the Savannah River: River Street has a riverside boardwalk with many shops selling small artworks and souvenirs. You can also sit by the river and enjoy a beer 🍺. It’s very relaxing. There is a cookie shop called Byrd’s here, offering bite-sized cookies, one at a time, with a peach flavor that is especially delicious. Wormsloe Historic Site: This site features nearly 2.4 kilometers of oak trees and Spanish moss (Spanish moss looks like tree hair, so those sensitive to smells should wear a mask). The hundreds of oak trees here are mostly centuries old, planted by the plantation owner in 1890. The descendants of the plantation owner still live in the private estate. The ruins of the original owner’s cabin and other structures are open for visitors.
