The largest reclining Buddha in China

The Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple was first built in the first year of Yong'an of the Western Xia Dynasty (1098), originally named "Jaye Tathagata Temple", Ming Xuande bestowed "Baojue Temple", and Qing Kangxi bestowed "Hongren Temple". Because the temple enshrines the Nirvana image of Sakyamuni, it is commonly known as "Giant Buddha Temple". The Giant Buddha Temple covers an area of more than 60,000 square meters. It is the largest and best-preserved royal temple of the Western Xia Dynasty in China. It is also the iconic building of the historic and cultural city "Golden Zhangye", and is now a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national key protection unit for ancient books, and a national 4A level tourist attraction. The temple preserves the largest Buddhist building of the Western Xia Dynasty in China, the largest indoor wooden clay reclining Buddha in Asia, and the most complete first engraved and first printed version of the "Daming Sanzang Shengjiao Zang" in China, with a collection of more than 10,000 precious cultural relics. The Giant Buddha Temple, as an outstanding representative of China's historical and cultural heritage, embodies the hard work and wisdom of the ancestors of Zhangye.
