How I spent my fourth day in Melbourne 🇦🇺 🌿 sightseeing trip
I went on an 8-night, 10-day trip to Australia from the end of August. I spent 8 days in Melbourne and the Gold Coast, and this time I'll share my experience of the third day in Melbourne!
I hope you'll read to the end!
This time, I traveled to two Australian cities with a friend. It was a trip for two: me, who loved Melbourne so much I lived there for a year, and my friend who lives on the Gold Coast.
🌿8:45 The Tea Rooms 1892
This is a famous cafe located inside The Block Arcade. The cakes in the display case visible from the outside are so cute!!
I had lavender tea and lemon meringue cake. It was absolutely delicious.
It cost $25.
🌿10:00 Flinders Street Station
Degrave Street is a street lined with many local cafes. The decorations above are also cute. I haven't been to any of them yet, but I'd like to try them someday.
This was the day I was going to a place I was really looking forward to. That's why I came to Flinders Street Station. The station is beautiful in the morning too. From here, it's about an hour's train ride to Belgrave station, our destination.
🌿PUFFING BILLY RAILWAY
Arrival at our destination!
What we were looking forward to was the PUFFING BILLY RAILWAY. This is a historic steam locomotive that opened in 1900. A key feature is that you can sit on the window sill and stretch your legs out.
The right side of the train is recommended for the outbound journey, but we couldn't get seats... Seating is first-come, first-served.
People at the back pushed forward to claim seats, and we couldn't get good seats, so it's recommended to line up early.
🌿12:30 Belgrave → Lakeside
A journey of about 50 minutes one way. About 5 minutes after departure, we came across the famous bridge. The view is said to be better from the rear carriages, but we were in the very front carriage.
The weather was bad, and everything was going wrong...
But it was an amazing moment.
🌿13:30 Break at Lakeside
We took a break at the cafe inside the Puffing Billy Railway Lakeside Visitor Centre in Lakeside until our return train. The weather was bad that day, with heavy rain, and the cafe was very crowded. Many people couldn't find seats, so I recommend arriving early to secure a spot if you want to use the cafe.
There's also the Lakeside Hall Museum, which is surprisingly enjoyable during your free time!
🌿15:30 Lakeside → Belgrave
We were determined to dangle our legs on the next train, so we lined up quite early. Because of this, we were the first to get seats.
If you go early, there are fewer people, and you can take as many photos as you like.
I think we were able to get inside about 40 minutes before departure.
It was raining until departure, but it stopped while we were on board, so we didn't get too wet.
It was great to be able to sit with our legs out—it was a good experience.
After this, we returned to the city center, which took another hour.
🌿18:00 David’s Master Pot
This is a Mala Tang restaurant that I became addicted to when I went to Melbourne last year.
You choose your own noodles and ingredients and they cook it for you.
I chose the Mala Tang with level 2 spiciness.
I think the ingredients are also fixed at 400g or so.
They'll ask if you want cilantro, so if you don't like it, just say no.
Even level 2 is spicy. My friend said even the less spicy version was spicy. But it's definitely a taste I want to eat again!
🌿19:00 GLO GELATO
After the Mala Tang, I walked to GLO GELATO in Carlton.
You can get to Carlton by tram or bus, but I walked because I needed to transfer from the Mala Tang restaurant.
This was my second time at GLO on this trip. This time I had 'ICKY STICKY'. It was so delicious, I want to eat it again. I wish there were lots of gelato shops in Japan too...
🌿 Day 4 Summary
The main event of Day 4 was the PUFFING BILLY RAILWAY.
We went there independently, not on a tour. If you go independently, you can't buy a one-way ticket. You need to get from the city center to Belgrave station on your own.
If you choose a local tour, transportation, ticket arrangements, and even sightseeing in other cities are included, so be sure to check them out!
We decided to go independently since we could do it ourselves, and I think it was a great decision!
Day 5 is our last day in Melbourne.
I'll update again soon, so please stay tuned! 🌟
