Howth travel guide and discussion

#photovsrealitytravel Howth is one of those places where your camera somehow makes it look less impressive. The photos are gorgeous, but standing on the cliffs, hearing the sea and watching the boats move around the harbour is a completely different feeling. Here’s my little photo-vs-reality guide for a day in Howth. Places to visit · Howth Cliff Walk · Baily Lighthouse · Howth Harbour · Ireland’s Eye · Howth Castle · Red Rock Beach · Martello Tower Best place to grab food or drink · Beshoff Bros · The Brass Monkey · Wright’s Findlater · The House Restaurant · Doghouse Blues Tea Rooms Photo vs reality: fun facts 1. The cliffs look peaceful in photos, but the wind can be seriously strong. 2. Ireland’s Eye looks close from the harbour, but it feels much more dramatic in person. 3. Howth is a working fishing harbour, so you’ll often see boats coming and going. 4. Seals are sometimes spotted around the harbour, keep your eyes on the water. Photo vs reality: tips 1. Bring a jacket, even on a sunny day. Trust me. 2. Wear proper shoes for the cliff paths. 3. Check the weather before your visit because the views can change completely. 4. Keep your camera ready, but don’t spend the whole walk behind it. 5. Give yourself extra time. Howth is much prettier when you slow down. Have you visited Howth? Did reality beat your photos? Tell me your favourite spot or your best Howth tip in the comments. #ireland #howth #hiking #travel #myitinerary #citydaytours #beachlife #photography

No need to go far, it only takes 30 minutes by DART from Dublin! This little fishing village called Howth is super amazing! Originally I just wanted to come and enjoy the sea breeze, but it was the seal-infested season for me! 🌊 🦭 Cute role by the pier It’s really lucky to come in December and you’ll see a few seals “floating and sinking” by the dock as if greeting you, super healing! 😍 There are so many seagulls flying around the scene, the whole screen is as beautiful as a movie, I can't stop taking pictures! 📸 🐟Seafood Control Paradise How can you not eat when you come to a fishing village? There are many fresh fish shops and seafood restaurants by the pier, the oysters, salmon (salmon) are all just caught, fresh! The freshness is unmatched by the city center supermarket🤤. 🍟 Disappeared Fish and Chips Actually... I also bought a portion of the locally recommended fried fish and chips, I wanted to take a picture, but... because it was so good! My friend and I cleared the plate in a few seconds, and after eating we realized we hadn't taken any pictures😂! I sincerely recommend you to try it, you will definitely not regret it! 💡Tips: Access: Take the DART with your Leap Card and get off at the Howth Station terminal. Equipment: The seaside is windy in December, remember to bring a windbreaker, otherwise you will become a madman 🌬️. #Dublin #Howth #IrelandTravel #WildSeals #NearDublin #GlobalTravel

Early in the morning, I boarded the DART train from Dublin city center, and half an hour later, I arrived in Howth. This seaside town, embraced by the ocean breeze, instantly lifted my spirits. Sunlight bathed the harbor, fishing boats swayed gently, and seagulls circled overhead. I decided to start my day with the Howth Cliff Walk. Choosing the green route, I strolled along the cliffside path, where the Irish Sea shimmered under the sunlight, and the distant Lambay Island appeared faintly on the horizon. The sea breeze was a bit chilly, so I wrapped my coat tighter, but I couldn’t resist pausing to take in the expansive view from Howth Summit. Wildflowers dotted the trail, and the occasional sound of sheep bleating added to the charm. In this moment, the hustle and bustle of the city felt worlds away. By the time I finished the trail, it was nearing noon, and my stomach was growling. I headed straight to Beshoff Bros by the harbor. I ordered a classic fish and chips—crispy battered cod paired with rich tartar sauce. Each bite was filled with the fresh sweetness of the sea. Outside the restaurant window, seals playfully popped their heads out of the water, drawing gasps of delight from tourists. After my meal, I took a leisurely stroll along the pier. The air was filled with the salty scent of the sea, and the lively yet tranquil atmosphere of the harbor made me slow my pace. Along the way, I visited Howth Castle. The ancient trees and stone walls in the garden whispered stories of centuries past. Although I couldn’t enter the castle, I could still feel the weight of history. In the afternoon, I wandered into Howth village, where the narrow lanes were full of delightful surprises. At Howth Market, I bought a handmade soap that smelled of lavender and grabbed a cup of hot coffee, warming both my hands and my heart. I then visited the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey, where moss-covered stones on the ground evoked thoughts of medieval monastic life. With time to spare, I decided to explore Baily Lighthouse. Standing tall at the edge of the cliffs, the lighthouse overlooked Dublin Bay, which glowed golden under the setting sun. I took out my phone to capture this breathtaking scene, feeling utterly content. As dusk approached, I boarded the DART back to Dublin. Through the train window, the sea and sky of Howth gradually faded into the distance, but the memories of the day left a deep impression in my heart. On this day, I walked along cliffs, savored seafood, touched history, and was profoundly moved by the natural beauty and simplicity of Ireland. Howth is not just a suburb of Dublin; it’s a place that invites you to slow down and truly feel. If I have the chance, I’d love to return—perhaps next time, I’ll rent a boat and chase after the seals.

Add this to your January hit list 🔫 Located just at the top of the hill, behind the graveyard in Howth, @30churchstreet is a true hidden gem 💎 Great seafood, pizzas, and some brilliant wines 🍷 Perfect for romantic evenings or post walk chinwags 😀 Tag someone who would love it here! #Howth #dublin #ireland #restaurants#europetrip

Like other European countries, spring and autumn are the best seasons to travel to Ireland. During my one year of staying here, I was fortunate to experience all four seasons in this country. Autumn is short but incredibly beautiful. Ireland is a green country, so you can imagine how stunning it is when all the trees turn yellow and red during the autumn. I still remember one day when the trees were green, and just after one night, my entire university had transformed completely. My first, and of course biased, autumn spot in Ireland is my university—University College Dublin, Smurfit Graduate Business School in Blackrock. Trust me, it is absolutely stunning. Other popular places for autumn lovers in Dublin include: > Phoenix Park > St. Stephen's Green > Botanic Gardens > Dublin Castle > The River Liffey > Howth #100waysoftravel

Dublin was the kind of city where I could walk for hours and somehow end up looking for food again. I started at Temple Bar Food Market, browsing the stalls before grabbing a warm pastry and coffee. It was a busy start, but I liked the energy. From there, I wandered through George’s Street Arcade, where the small food counters and independent shops made it easy to stop for a quick bite. I continued toward Moore Street, picking up something simple while watching the market sellers and locals go about their day. Later, I headed to Howth Market, where the seaside setting made everything taste better. I tried some fresh seafood before walking along the harbor. Back in the city, Dublin Docklands had a completely different feel. I found a casual food spot nearby and sat outside for a while. I also explored St. Stephen’s Green, grabbing a snack before wandering through the surrounding streets. By evening, I ended up around Smithfield, where the relaxed atmosphere and independent food spots were perfect for one last bite. Dublin’s street food isn’t about complicated meals. For me, it was about eating casually, walking a lot, and discovering something good when I wasn’t looking for it. #dublin #ireland

#easytravelpost Looking for true island vibes? Dive into Sihanoukville, Cambodia’s laid-back coastal hotspot — and don’t miss a meal at Soon Noeng Restaurant 🍤🌴 This spot is perched right on East Pier, Koh Rong Samloem. The highlight? Fresh seafood, low-key beachy atmosphere, and chill sunsets by the water. Top Place to Visit in Sihanoukville: Soon Noeng Restaurant (East Pier, Koh Rong Samloem 09000, Cambodia) Whether you’re craving grilled prawns, local curries, or something icy to drink after swimming, Soon Noeng's menu is big on freshness. Try their seafood platter or the amok fish (classic Cambodian dish!) — all sourced from island waters. Personal tip: Visit Soon Noeng for lunch so you catch those epic ocean views and avoid dinner crowds. Most days, the vibe feels almost private if you head in before noon. Service is friendly; everyone speaks some English so ordering is no problem. Getting There: Use local ferries from Sihanoukville mainland direct to Koh Rong Samloem’s East Pier. Boats run frequently, but check schedules, especially in rainy season. Food Tip: Seafood is the star — go for anything grilled. Ask staff about the daily catch! Travel Hacks: – Bring cash (US dollars and Cambodian Riel are both accepted), but pay in local Riel for better prices. – Weather: Dry season (Nov–May) is ideal. Rainy season is less crowded and moody but ferries may be delayed. – No visa needed for most ASEAN countries, but double check before coming. #sihanoukvilleeats #kohrongsamloem #seafoodlover #cambodiatravel

The Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland, is one of the country’s most iconic natural wonders. Formed by volcanic activity over 60 million years ago, it consists of around 40,000 remarkably symmetrical basalt columns. It’s an extraordinary landscape that tells two stories at once: the immense volcanic forces that shaped it millions of years ago, and the enduring legend of Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool). According to Irish folklore, the columns were part of a stone pathway built by the Irish giant so he could cross the sea to challenge his Scottish rival to a battle. We chose the scenic cliff path before descending to the famous columns. It was a much longer walk, especially with our 4-year-old, but it turned into one of the most memorable parts of the visit. We spent the journey chatting, laughing, and singing nursery rhymes to keep him motivated. 😄 As one of Northern Ireland’s premier walking destinations, the Giant’s Causeway offers four marked trails suitable for different fitness levels. The basalt columns are only about a 15-minute walk from the Visitor Centre, but that’s just the beginning. If you include the cliff path, the Shepherd’s Steps, time to explore the various rock formations, and plenty of stops for breathtaking photographs, you can easily spend two hours or more here, depending on your pace. One of the best things about the Giant’s Causeway is that the stones themselves are freely accessible at any time. There are no gates and no closing hours, so you can visit at sunrise or sunset for a quieter experience and beautiful golden light. You can simply walk down from the road to the Causeway without charge. The Visitor Centre, however, has an admission fee and seasonal opening hours. If you’d like to learn more about both the fascinating geology and the legendary tale of Finn McCool, it’s well worth a visit. Inside, you’ll find interactive exhibitions, historical displays, and guided tours that bring the story of this remarkable World Heritage Site to life. Be sure to check the opening hours and book your tickets in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

A town on the east side of Ireland, [Howth] Beautiful landscapes, the horizon, flower fields, and cliffs. It was like stepping into a picture book. I was overwhelmed to realize that such breathtaking scenery exists in the world. Losing track of time... That is exactly how I felt. The sound of the waves and the wind was especially beautiful. Taking a deep breath while soaking up the sun... Why not come and experience such a relaxing time? I used [irishrain] and got off at Howth! It only cost around €10! A round-trip ticket is a great deal 🌟

Cheapest way to travel? Easy peasy – just snag a tasty sandwich from your fave local shop (trust me, Irish stores are sooo good for quick bites! 🥪). Then hop on the DART train to Howth – it's affordable, scenic, and gets you right to the coast (Howth, Co. Dublin, Ireland; train runs every 10–15 minutes from central Dublin 🚆). Once you arrive, get ready for pure vibes! The sunny sea view at Howth is next-level – the waves are literally music to your ears 🌊☀️. Chill on the harbour, watch the seagulls, and just soak in those beachy feels. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Howth Cliff Walk is epic – but even just hanging by the water is a 10/10 lazy day. Pro tip: come early for golden hour snaps, and don’t forget your shades! Howth Harbour is open to visitors all day, and the local shops are usually open from 8am to 6pm. This is the ultimate budget-friendly way to live your best sea day!

[Trip Moment Delivery 🗞️] During this trip, I visited Balscadden Bay, the quietest spot to face the sea in Howth. 🇮🇪🌊 🛄 Hidden Gem Below the Hill A short walk down from Howth village reveals a small bay. Nestled between high cliffs and hills, the beach is initially hard to spot, but as you approach, the sea gradually opens up. It feels more like a secluded coastal landscape than a tourist destination. 🌿 Serene Atmosphere of the Sea Though the beach is small, the gentle waves create a calm ambiance. Surrounded naturally by rocks and cliffs, the sea and sky feel closer here. The untouched scenery leaves a lasting impression, rather than any man-made facilities. 🌉 Where Village Meets the Sea Above the hill, Howth's houses stretch out, while below lies the tranquil beach. The overlapping views highlight the charm of this small coastal village. Balscadden Bay was the most peaceful spot to gaze at the sea during my Howth trip. 🌿 Perfect Place for a Pause Not a popular tourist spot, which makes it even more relaxing to enjoy the scenery. In a space filled only with the sound of wind and waves, it’s an ideal place to pause and admire the sea. ✅️ Travel Tips 1️⃣ Accessible on foot from Howth village. 2️⃣ Take your time walking down the path to the beach. 3️⃣ Bring a jacket as it can get windy. 📌 Location Balscadden Bay Howth, Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪

[Trip Moment Delivery🗞️] During this trip, I visited Howth Village, the place where I felt the closest connection to the sea near Dublin. 🇮🇪⚓ 🛄 | A small village starting with the harbor Upon arriving by train from Dublin, the sea and harbor immediately come into view. Howth's town center is small, but the area around the harbor is naturally bustling with restaurants, cafes, and shops. Rather than a busy tourist spot, it feels like a village that lives harmoniously with the sea. 🌿 Scenic streets along the harbor Around the pier, small fishing boats and seagulls blend seamlessly into the surroundings. Walking along with the sea breeze, you can sense a rhythm much slower than the city. Here, the harbor itself becomes the main attraction rather than any specific landmark. 🌉 Close proximity between the sea and the village The village center is compact, making it easy to explore on foot. However, the combination of the sea, hills, and harbor creates a rich and dense landscape. Howth's town center is a place that leaves a deeper impression the slower you walk through it. 🌿 A different kind of tranquility compared to Dublin Unlike the lively atmosphere of Dublin's city center, Howth offers a much calmer vibe. The wind, sea, and quiet streets naturally come together. Howth Village was the most serene and sea-inspired part of my Dublin trip, providing a moment to pause and breathe. ✅️ | Travel Tips 1️⃣ It takes about 30 minutes by DART train from Dublin. 2️⃣ Be sure to walk along the harbor-side trails. 3️⃣ The wind can be strong, so it's best to bring a jacket. 📌 Location Howth Village Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪

#europeonbudget If you love hiking and sea views, the Howth cliff walk is pure magic — and completely free. From the train station, the trail takes you past heather fields, cliffs that drop straight into the ocean, and views of Ireland’s Eye island just offshore. I spent the whole day exploring with nothing but my camera, a bottle of water, and a packed lunch. Back in the village, I treated myself to an ice cream and sat by the harbor, watching locals chat as the tide rolled in. It’s the kind of budget travel that fills your soul, not your suitcase.

#europeonbudget Some of my favorite moments in Ireland have been the cheapest. I took the train to Howth for a spontaneous day trip — no plans, just walking shoes and curiosity. The village was lively, with markets selling crafts and fresh seafood. I followed the cliff path up to a viewpoint where the sunset turned the sea pink and gold. It was windy, wild, and completely beautiful. On the way back, I grabbed a takeaway coffee and sat on the pier watching the fishing boats. Traveling on a budget in Dublin doesn’t mean skipping beauty — it means finding it in the simple things.

#europeonbudget For a budget traveler, Howth is Dublin’s best escape. Just a short DART ride from the city, it feels like another world — cliffs, lighthouses, and sea air that instantly clears your head. I started early to walk the full cliff loop, stopping for photos at every turn. The sound of the wind and waves made me forget how close I was to the city. Afterward, I wandered the harbor, watched seals near the boats, and treated myself to fish and chips for under ten euros. With just a train ticket and some snacks, you can turn a simple day into an adventure.

#europeonbudget A Perfect Budget Day in Howth You don’t need much money to have an incredible day near Dublin — just take the DART to Howth, pack some snacks, and start walking. The coastal path begins right by the harbor, winding past cliffs covered in wildflowers and gulls circling above. The views are unreal — the sea stretches endlessly, with Dublin Bay glimmering in the distance. I stopped halfway for a sandwich I’d brought, sitting on the cliffs watching the waves crash below. Later, I grabbed a cheap cup of chowder near the pier before heading back. It was the kind of day that costs almost nothing but feels priceless.

Visiting Howth in Ireland, I decided to try some coastal cuisine that isn't often discussed among Hong Kongers. To my surprise, I found Aqua Restaurant, located right by the pier. Specializing in fresh seafood, it's perfect whether you've just finished the Howth Cliff Walk or simply want to enjoy a stunning seaside dinner! Aqua Restaurant Address: 1 West Pier Dublin, Howth, Ireland Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 12:30 PM – 9:30 PM Restaurant Ambiance: Floor-to-ceiling glass windows offer views of Howth Bay. The seating is spacious, and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend reserving a window seat, especially during sunset—it’s absolutely magical. Signature Dishes: 🦐 Fresh Seafood Platter Includes oysters, mussels, crab, and various other seafood—all incredibly fresh. The mix of ocean flavors with lemon and special sauces makes every bite delightful. Perfect for sharing with a group. 🐟 Pan-seared Hake Fillet Tender fish paired with creamy mashed potatoes and white wine sauce, with a hint of herbs for a refreshing yet rich taste. 🦞 Lobster Bisque A rich and flavorful lobster soup, packed with ingredients. Pair it with toasted bread for an even better experience. Price: Approximately €45-€60 per person. Considering the fresh ingredients and excellent ambiance, the value for money is quite high. Personal Experience: I got a window seat and enjoyed the seafood while gazing at the ocean. The food exceeded my expectations, especially the seafood platter—it’s now a cherished memory of Howth’s culinary delights. The staff were very attentive, recommending the best seasonal seafood and even proactively changing plates and providing fresh napkins. Travel Tips: I recommend visiting on Friday or weekend evenings for the best views. Reservations are a must, as walk-ins often don’t get seats, especially the highly sought-after window seats. After exploring Howth Market or the Cliff Walk, this is the perfect spot for a delightful dinner.

🌦️ Howth, Dublin — where the weather changes every 5 minutes! Walked to Howth Lighthouse through sun, wind, and surprise rain. Dramatic skies, stunning views. The harbour was packed, but the oysters were super fresh 🦪. #cityplaybook #familytrip #localguides #aprilblooms If you’re visiting Dublin and need a break from the city buzz, hop on the DART and head to Howth—a charming fishing village that quickly became one of the most memorable parts of my Irish journey. As soon as I stepped off the train, the scent of saltwater filled the air, and the colorful harbor came into view. Fishing boats rocked gently, seagulls soared overhead, and the pace of life seemed to slow down. Howth has that perfect blend of wild coastal beauty and cozy village charm. Howth Cliff Walk: Nature’s Masterpiece The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Howth Cliff Walk. The trail loops around the peninsula and offers jaw-dropping views of the Irish Sea. With every turn, I found myself stopping to snap another photo—of crashing waves, blooming wildflowers, and the famous Baily Lighthouse perched on the edge of the cliff. It’s not a strenuous hike, but I recommend wearing sturdy shoes and taking your time to enjoy the views. There are several loop options depending on how far you want to go, ranging from 1.5 to 10 kilometers. Seafood and Market Vibes After the walk, I treated myself to fresh fish and chips at Beshoffs, right by the harbor. It was crispy, golden, and exactly what I needed. If you’re visiting on the weekend, don’t miss the Howth Market—a collection of local crafts, treats, and warm Irish hospitality. A Touch of History For a quieter experience, I visited the ruins of Howth Abbey and wandered up to Howth Castle—both steeped in centuries of history and offering peaceful moments away from the crowds. Best Time to Visit: Spring to early autumn (April–October) is ideal for walking the cliffs and enjoying seafood outdoors. Helpful Tips: Bring layers—coastal weather can change quickly. Stay for sunset if you can—the harbor view is magical. Look out for seals popping up near the pier! I had an amazing trip to Howth, Ireland, which is so easy and quick to reach from Dublin by train—perfect for a day or two getaway. The scenic hiking was a great way to explore, and we spent some peaceful time soaking up the sunshine while watching the sea. The local church was beautiful to visit, and wandering through the market was a great way to experience the town. We wrapped up our trip with a visit to McNeills Pub, where we enjoyed a delicious seafood chowder and tried blackcurrant beer, which was a unique treat. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that I’d highly recommend!
