Dubrovnik can be expensive, but I found that some of my favorite moments cost absolutely nothing. I started at Pile Gate and walked straight onto Stradun, the polished limestone street running through the heart of the Old Town. From there, I wandered into the smaller side streets, where stone staircases, old churches, and quiet courtyards made me forget about the crowds. I spent a while around St. Blaise Church and Onofrio’s Fountain, then walked toward the Old Port to watch boats coming and going. I could easily have stayed there all afternoon. Later, I escaped the busy center at Gradac Park, a peaceful green spot above the coast with beautiful views toward Fort Lovrijenac. The sea breeze was especially welcome after walking around the hot stone streets.
