Macau in 3 Days: The Ultimate Itinerary.
A city of contrasts, where narrow historic alleyways sit right next door to the neon glow of mega-casinos. In just three days, this itinerary will show you the many different sides of Macau.
DAY 1 – HISTORIC CENTER
🏛 Ruins of St. Paul’s – Only the facade of this cathedral remains, but what a sight it is! Get here early in the morning for the best lighting and the thinnest crowds.
🌿 Fortaleza do Monte – A 16th-century fortress sitting just above the ruins: a tranquil park, antique cannons, a history museum, and sweeping panoramic views of the old town.
⛪ St. Dominic’s Church – A pastel-yellow Baroque church that serves as a symbol of Macau's Catholic heritage. Don't miss the intricate stucco details on the facade and the antique stained glass windows.
🛍 Senado Square – The main city square: black-and-white wavy cobblestone mosaics, colonial architecture, and Portuguese street signs. Be sure to wander down the neighboring alleyways decorated with beautiful azulejo tiles.
🏘 Rua da Felicidade – The "Street of Happiness," which transformed from a bustling red-light and opium district into a charming foodie haven packed with traditional restaurants.
🛕 Guia Fortress – A hilltop fort complete with a lighthouse, an ancient chapel, and breathtaking views of the entire peninsula. It's especially stunning at sunset. You can hike up or take the cable car.
🎰 Grand Lisboa – A towering casino-hotel shaped like a giant lotus flower, making it Macau’s most iconic skyscraper. Stepping inside is a must—the lavish interior will blow you away, even if you’re not a gambler.
DAY 2 — TAIPA AND COTAI
🍃 Taipa Village – A vibrant neighborhood brimming with colonial charm. Take a stroll down Rua do Cunha—the absolute epicenter of the best street food—and pop into Lord Stow’s Bakery for their legendary Portuguese egg tarts.
🏡 Taipa Houses-Museum – A complex of pastel mansions dating back to 1921. Once the residences of high-ranking Portuguese officials, they now serve as a museum ensemble and a picturesque walking area.
🇮🇹 The Venetian – Little Venice: St. Mark's Square, the Campanile, the Rialto Bridge, and indoor canals with gondolas under an artificial sky that shifts its tint throughout the day.
🇫🇷 The Parisian – Step into the opulence of 18th-century France, complete with a half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower that features a stunning observation deck.
🇬🇧 The Londoner – London in miniature: Big Ben, nods to Westminster, a classic double-decker bus, and iconic red telephone booths.
🎡 Studio City – The world's only figure-8 Ferris wheel, uniquely suspended between the hotel's twin towers.
⛲️ Wynn Palace – Enjoy the mesmerizing fountain show and take a free cable car ride over the performance lake. It’s absolutely magical after dark when the whole place sparkles with lights.
🎭 City of Dreams – Cotai’s premier entertainment complex, known for hosting epic, large-scale stage productions featuring acrobatics, water stunts, and dazzling light effects.
DAY 3 — COLOANE
🐼 Seac Pai Van Park – A sprawling green oasis housing various animals. Make sure to visit the Giant Panda Pavilion: the pandas aren't always active, but seeing them up close is an absolute delight.
🏘️ Coloane Village – A sleepy fishing village with a distinct Portuguese vibe: narrow alleys, the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier, dried seafood stalls, and quaint cafes.
🏖️ Hac Sa Beach – Macau's most unusual beach, famous for its dark, almost black sand. It’s a gorgeous spot to take a walk, breathe in the salty ocean air, and just slow down a bit.
🗼 Macau Tower – Technically not in Coloane, but it makes for the perfect grand finale: an observation deck with city-wide views, a 360° revolving restaurant, and extreme thrills for the bravest – Skywalk X and Bungy Jump.
TRAVEL TIPS
🚌 Transportation: The bus network is highly efficient and covers all districts. Plus, there are free casino shuttle buses running frequently between the historic center and Taipa Island.
🏨 Hotels: Try to avoid booking for Friday and Saturday nights; on these days, accommodation costs spike by at least 50%.
🔌 Power Outlets: British-style plugs. Check with your hotel in advance to see if they provide adapters.
