Menaggio travel guide and discussion

#easytravelpost Seriously being here makes me feel how Italian living their “la dolce vita” kind of lifestyle. It just took me a one hour road-day trip from Milan. I stepped off the ferry onto the cobblestones of Varenna, feeling every bit of the slow paced Mediterranean dream. Traveling here is entirely effortless because the lake sets the rhythm for you. There is no frantic itinerary or checking off boxes, just smooth waters framed by towering cypress trees and dramatic alpine slopes. Taking your slow time one pace at a time. I spent my mornings gliding across the water on the local ferries, effortlessly hopping between Bellagio and quiet lakeside promenades, taking in grand waterfront villas that look straight out of a classic movie set. It is the kind of destination where doing absolutely nothing feels like the most luxurious plan. What makes this place so ridiculously easy to navigate is how seamless everything feels. A single whole lake ferry day pass for around €23.60 lets you drift from one pastel village to another whenever the mood strikes. To explore the iconic botanical gardens at Villa Monastero, an entry ticket is just €10 to €13, giving you hours to wander through blooming wisteria and historic stone terraces at your own pace. Payments everywhere are completely hassle free, as contactless card payments are accepted almost everywhere, from ticket booths to tiny gelato spots tucked down hidden alleyways. I loved just grabbing a bench by the shore, listening to the gentle lap of the water against stone docks, and soaking in that unmistakable Italian warmth. By late afternoon, the lake takes on a golden glow that makes you want to sit back and stay forever. Easy traveling here means sitting at a waterside bistro with a glass of local wine, watching classic wooden speedboats carve quiet paths across the water while the sun dips behind the mountains. You never have to rush for a taxi or worry about navigation because every scenic boat route brings you right where you want to be. Lake Como gives you permission to slow down, breathe deep, and embrace a lifestyle where simple moments and stunning views are all that matter. How easy it is to just feel one with such view. Totally an unforgettable experience. #LakeComo #EasyTravel #LaDolceVita #ItalyTravel #SlowTravel #LakeComoVibes #TravelInStyle

#epictravelmoments Italy wasn’t just a trip… it was a whole movie! 🎬🇮🇹 From the breathtaking views of Lake Como to the timeless streets of Rome, every day felt like another unforgettable chapter. ❤️ 🏔️ Lake Como — Pure Italian Magic 🌊 Visiting Como and seeing Lake Como in person was one of those moments where you just stop and stare. The mountains, peaceful blue water, charming villages, and beautiful scenery looked almost too perfect to be real. I kept taking photos thinking, “Okay, this one is definitely the best one!”… then five minutes later I took another 20. 😂📸 🏛️ Rome — Where History Is Everywhere 🇮🇹 Then came Rome! Walking through the city felt like stepping into history. Ancient architecture, beautiful streets, incredible landmarks, and that unmistakable Italian atmosphere were everywhere. I came for the sightseeing… but somehow I spent just as much time looking for my next meal. 😂 🍕🍝 And Then… Italian Food! 🤌 Of course, I couldn’t visit Italy without trying authentic Italian pizza and spaghetti. And honestly, Italy made me question every pizza and pasta I had eaten before. 😂🍕🍝 The spaghetti was so good that I suddenly became an Italian food critic after one bite. 🤌😂 And the pizza? Let’s just say I told myself I would only eat one slice… Italy had other plans. 😅 One funny thing that happened during my trip: I walked around so much that by the end of the day my feet were basically saying, “We didn’t agree to this vacation!” 😂👟 But the moment I saw another beautiful street or viewpoint, somehow I had the energy to keep walking. From the peaceful beauty of Lake Como to the incredible atmosphere of Rome, and from unforgettable views to unforgettable food, Italy gave me the kind of memories that stay with you long after the suitcase is back home. 🇮🇹❤️ ✨ Italy, you were absolutely unforgettable! Now I want to hear from you 👇 🇮🇹 If you could choose only ONE: Lake Como or Rome — which would you visit first? 🍕 Pizza or 🍝 Spaghetti? And what is the one place in Italy you think everyone should visit at least once? Drop your answer in the comments — let’s debate! 😂👇

Visiting Lake Como was one of those experiences that made me stop and simply admire the view. 💙 The combination of deep blue waters, dramatic mountains, elegant lakeside scenery, and charming Italian villages created a truly magical atmosphere. Every moment around the lake felt peaceful, beautiful, and incredibly photogenic. 🏔️🌊 What I enjoyed most was the relaxed pace—wandering along the waterfront, taking in the surrounding landscape, and discovering beautiful views wherever I looked. 📸 Lake Como reminded me that sometimes the most memorable part of travel is simply enjoying the scenery and being present in the moment. 📍 Lake Como, Italy 🇮🇹 💙 Beautiful views, peaceful moments, unforgettable memories. #LakeComo #LakeComoItaly #Italy #ItalyTravel #ItalianLakes #EuropeTravel #TravelMemories #TravelPhotography #ScenicViews #BeautifulDestinationss #Tripcom #Wanderlust

Lake Como is one of those places that genuinely looks like a movie set, with deep blue water, dramatic Alpine mountains, elegant villas and colourful villages scattered along the shoreline. ✨ If it’s your first time, don’t just stay in Como. Take the ferry and explore Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio, each with a completely different atmosphere. Bellagio is the most famous, Varenna is smaller and incredibly romantic, while Menaggio has beautiful lakefront views without feeling quite as busy. 🌿 My tip: take at least one ferry ride instead of visiting everything by car. Seeing the villages and villas from the water is part of the experience. 🏛️ If you have time, visit Villa del Balbianello, one of the most spectacular villas on the lake, surrounded by beautiful gardens and incredible views. For the best experience, go in spring or early autumn when the weather is pleasant and the villages are generally less crowded than during peak summer. Would you choose Bellagio, Varenna or Como for your Lake Como trip? 👇 #LakeComo #ItalyTravel #ItalianLakes #Bellagio #Varenna #LakeComoItaly #ItalyVacation #EuropeTravel #TravelInspiration #HiddenItaly #BeautifulDestinationss #TripMoments

I especially loved the peaceful atmosphere of the lake and the beautiful views that appeared around every corner. Whether enjoying the waterfront, exploring the charming villages, or simply taking in the mountains, every moment felt picture-perfect. 🏔️🌊 ✨ What made Lake Como special: 🌊 Stunning lake views 🏔️ Dramatic mountain scenery 🏘️ Charming Italian villages 🇮🇹 Authentic Italian atmosphere 📸 Endless photo opportunities Lake Como is more than just a beautiful destination—it’s a place to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and create unforgettable memories. 📍 Lake Como, Italy 💙 A destination I would love to experience again! #LakeComo #Italy #LakeComoItaly #ItalianLakes #ItalyTravel #EuropeTravel #TravelMemories #TravelPhotography #BeautifulDestinationss #NatureLovers #Tripcom #Wanderlust

Bellagio is one of the most beautiful destinations we visited in Italy. Nestled on the shores of Lake Como, the town offers breathtaking lake views, charming cobblestone streets, and a relaxing atmosphere that makes it easy to spend an entire day exploring. We enjoyed wandering through the narrow lanes lined with boutique shops, cafés, and colorful buildings. There are plenty of scenic viewpoints overlooking the lake, and taking a ferry from Bellagio is a great way to visit nearby towns such as Varenna and Menaggio. The waterfront is especially beautiful in the morning and at sunset. The town is clean, well maintained, and easy to explore on foot, although some streets are steep, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Restaurants and cafés serve delicious Italian food, and sitting by the lake with a coffee or gelato is an experience not to be missed. Overall, Bellagio perfectly combines natural beauty, history, and Italian charm. Whether you're visiting for a few hours or staying for several days, it's a destination that leaves a lasting impression. I would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Lake Como.

Lake Como, Italy 🇮🇹 If you’re referring to the “Gate of Heaven” viewpoint/spot around Lake Como, it’s associated with the dreamy landscapes that make Como look almost otherworldly—sparkling lake waters, dramatic Alpine mountains, elegant villas, and colorful lakeside villages. 🌊 Lake Como is one of Italy’s most spectacular destinations, stretching between mountain slopes and surrounded by famous towns such as Como, Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, and Tremezzina. 🏔️ Why it feels like a “Gate of Heaven” · Majestic mountains rising behind the lake · Crystal-clear blue and emerald-green water · Historic villas and lush gardens · Charming stone streets and waterfront promenades · Romantic sunsets over the Alps · Scenic ferry and boat journeys across the lake 📸 Best experience: Take a boat across the lake around sunset. The changing light over the mountains and villas creates some of the most beautiful views in northern Italy. #LakeComo #ComoItaly #GateOfHeaven #Italy #VisitItaly #LakeComoItaly #Bellagio #Varenna #ItalianLakes #DolceVita #ItalyTravel #TravelInspiration #HeavenOnEarth #EuropeTravel #Wanderlust

There are sunsets, and then there are Lake Como sunsets. 💙✨ Watching the sun slowly disappear behind the mountains from Lido di Como is one of those simple travel moments that stays with you. As the light changes, the lake becomes a mirror of warm golden and orange tones, while the mountains and elegant lakeside scenery create an incredible backdrop. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a drink, take a walk along the waterfront and simply watch the evening arrive. 🍹🌊 What makes Como so special is that you don’t always need a complicated itinerary — sometimes the best memories come from sitting by the lake and watching the sky change minute by minute. 📍 Lido di Como, Lake Como, Italy 🇮🇹 Would you choose sunset at Lake Como over sunrise? 🌅👇 #LakeComo #Como #LidoDiComo #ItalyTravel #VisitItaly #ItalianLakes #Sunset #SunsetLovers #LakeComoSunset #TravelMoments #MilanoTravel #BeautifulDestinationss

There are some places that you’ve seen so many times in photographs that you wonder whether they can possibly live up to the expectation. Lake Como absolutely does. With its dramatic mountain backdrop, beautiful blue water, grand historic villas and picture-perfect Italian towns, it has an elegance that feels almost effortless. Everywhere you turn there seems to be another view worth stopping for. Our time at Lake Como was a mixture of exploring, admiring some of its famous villas, wandering through beautiful Bellagio and, one of my favourite experiences, taking a private trip on a traditional wooden boat. A Private Wooden Boat on Lake Como There was something very special about stepping aboard a beautiful wooden boat and heading out onto the lake. Once you’re away from the shore, you get a completely different perspective of Como. The mountains seem even more dramatic from the water, with little villages and colourful houses dotted along the shoreline beneath them. It was peaceful, glamorous and wonderfully Italian — one of those experiences that feels every bit as lovely as you imagined it would. Cruising along with the sunshine reflecting on the water, surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in Italy, was definitely a highlight of the trip. And, of course, it made for some gorgeous photographs too. The Famous Villas of Lake Como Lake Como is almost as famous for its magnificent villas as it is for the lake itself. Scattered around the shoreline are grand historic houses surrounded by elaborate gardens, terraces, fountains and towering trees. Some are tucked away behind greenery, while others sit proudly overlooking the water. Seeing them up close gives you a real appreciation for just how beautiful and detailed they are. The architecture, gardens and spectacular locations make it easy to imagine the glamorous lives that have been lived here over the years. Some of Lake Como’s villas have also found fame on screen and have welcomed their fair share of well-known visitors, adding another little layer of intrigue to an already fascinating place. Even if you aren’t particularly interested in history or architecture, they are difficult not to admire. They are simply part of what gives Lake Como its distinctive character. Wandering Through Bellagio Then there’s Bellagio — probably one of the most recognisable towns on Lake Como and certainly one of the prettiest. Bellagio is everything you hope a little Italian lakeside town will be. Think cobbled streets, colourful buildings, flower-filled balconies, tiny shops and inviting cafés, all surrounded by incredible views. One of the nicest things to do here is simply wander. The narrow streets climb away from the waterfront, with stone steps leading between boutiques, restaurants and beautiful old buildings. Every so often, you turn around and catch another glimpse of the lake between the houses. It’s busy and popular for good reason, but there are still those lovely little moments when you find a quieter corner, stop for a coffee or just stand and take in the view. It’s somewhere that encourages you not to rush. The Beauty of Lake Como What struck me most about Lake Como was how much variety there is around the lake. One moment you’re surrounded by the grandeur of historic villas and manicured gardens, the next you’re wandering through the little streets of Bellagio, and then you’re out on the water with nothing but mountains and lake views around you. It manages to feel glamorous without losing its charm. And while the famous sights are certainly worth seeing, some of my favourite memories are the simple ones — looking out across the water, discovering a pretty street, stopping to admire a view and enjoying that slower Italian pace of life. Until Next Time, Lake Como Lake Como was every bit as beautiful as I had hoped. From exploring Bellagio and seeing some of the lake’s incredible villas to experiencing the water from a private wooden boat, every part of the trip offered something different. It’s romantic, elegant and incredibly photogenic, but photographs never quite capture the feeling of actually being there — the mountains surrounding you, the sound of the water and those seemingly endless Italian views. Lake Como is definitely one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. #travel2026 #europetrip #LakeComo #LagoDiComo #VisitLakeComo #LakeComoItaly #Bellagio #ItalyTravel #VisitItaly #TravelItaly #TravelBlog #TravelBlogger #EuropeanTravel #BoatTrip #BeautifulDestinationss

#bucketlistdestinations Lake Como is one of those destinations that almost seems too famous. You've seen the villas, mountains and colorful lakeside towns so many times online that it's reasonable to wonder whether reality can match the photos. For me, it did. The combination of steep green mountains and deep blue water creates incredible views almost everywhere around the lake. But the best part is moving between the towns. Ferries turn transportation into sightseeing, with constantly changing views from the water. Bellagio gets most of the attention, but exploring different places around the lake made the experience much more interesting than staying in one town. Narrow streets, waterfront promenades, villas and mountain scenery give each stop a slightly different atmosphere. Yes, Lake Como can be expensive and crowded, especially in summer. It's definitely not a hidden destination. But some famous places deserve their reputation. Do you think Lake Como is worth the hype, or is there another Italian lake you'd choose instead? #LakeComo #Italy #Lombardy #ItalyTravel #ItalianLakes

If you have just one free day in Milan and want to escape the hustle and bustle for a deeply romantic lakeside village, Varenna is my top recommendation. It takes only about an hour to get there, and you'll be greeted by sweeping views of Lake Como, pastel-colored houses, and a serene atmosphere that feels straight out of a postcard. 💙🏞️ 🚆 08:20 AM: Catch a train from Milano Centrale heading to Varenna-Esino. The ride takes about an hour, and just a few minutes' walk from the station, the breathtaking view of Lake Como unfolds right before your eyes. 🌿 Start your day with a stroll along the Passeggiata degli Innamorati (Walk of Lovers), a scenic lakeside promenade offering stunning views every step of the way. It’s the perfect spot to snap photos and kick back while watching the boats glide by. 📸 🏛️ Next, head over to Villa Monastero, a waterfront botanical garden widely considered one of the most beautiful spots on Lake Como. It’s brimming with vibrant flowers, exotic plants, and picturesque mountain backdrops. 🌺🌊 🍝 For lunch, grab a table at a lakeside restaurant. Treat yourself to some pasta, fresh trout, or risotto, paired with a glass of local wine. The vibe is incredibly peaceful and hopelessly romantic. 🍷 🥾 In the afternoon, if you’re up for a bit of a hike, I highly recommend trekking up to Castello di Vezio, an ancient castle perched on a hilltop. The 20 to 30-minute walk rewards you with spectacular 360-degree views of Lake Como—totally worth the effort! 🏰✨ ☕ Before heading back, grab a coffee or some gelato by the lake. Take a leisurely wander through the village's narrow cobblestone alleys, lined with quaint souvenir shops and vibrant homes that give off an authentic Italian charm. 🇮🇹 🚆 In the evening, hop on the train back to Milan. It’s another quick one-hour ride, wrapping up an easygoing day trip packed with million-dollar views. ❤️ If you want to soak in the beauty of Lake Como at a relaxed pace, Varenna is hands down one of the most charming villages you can visit. It’s quieter than the more famous towns but just as gorgeous. Perfect for photography lovers, cafe hoppers, and anyone craving a day surrounded by pure, unpretentious nature. You’ll quickly see why so many people fall head over heels for Varenna the moment they arrive. 💙✨ 🇮🇹🏞️💙

I spent an amazing summer day at Lake Como. We set off from Milan Central Station, and although the journey normally takes just about an hour, it ended up taking over two hours because of railway issues. Fortunately, when there are problems with the train line, they provide replacement buses, which I thought was a very thoughtful arrangement. Once we arrived at Varenna-Esino, we simply walked along the lakeside and were surrounded by stunning scenery. There were beautiful views everywhere, with plenty of small boats on the lake, and it was lovely to see locals heading out on their boats to enjoy the day. We also found homemade gelato, charming waterfront restaurants, and some incredibly beautiful villas. I highly recommend visiting the botanical garden, which is located within a hotel. It's a large, peaceful space and offers fantastic views of the lake, making it a perfect spot for photos. A one-day trip is more than enough to experience the highlights, and I would definitely recommend it.

Recommendation rating: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝 Getting there: About a 1-hour direct train ride from Milan Central Station Pro tip: Make sure to sit on the "left side" of the train so you can take in the entire view of Lake Como during the ride! - Among all the towns around Lake Como, Varenna is my absolute favorite🥰 Compared to the popular Bellagio, Varenna has less of the noisy tourist crowds and more of the authentic, laid-back vibe of an Italian town. The town itself isn't very big. Taking a leisurely stroll along the lake🍃 reveals colorful houses, little boats docked at the shore, and numerous charming alleys filled with blooming flowers!! I feel the most captivating thing about this place is that "you don't need a specific itinerary." Just wandering along the waterfront, finding a cozy cafe to sit in, and watching the lake and passing boats, is enough to happily spend a whole afternoon.

Exploring Northern Italy’s hidden gems? Here’s my swoon-worthy guide to Varenna – with dreamy Lake Como views and all the romance you can handle! 😍✨ Top Spots to Visit: Piazza San Giorgio, Cuggiono (Punto San Giorgio, 16, 20012 Cuggiono MI) – Stroll this charming square, open all day, with a true Italian local feel. Castello di Vezio, Perledo (Via Castello, 23828 Perledo LC) – Perched above Varenna, this medieval castle is open 10:00–19:00 (until 20:00 on weekends), full of history and lake panoramas. La Passeggiata Degli Innamorati, Varenna (Largo Enzo Venini 2-6) – This Walk of Lovers is made for couples and hopeless romantics. Grab your camera and soak up lakeside vibes any hour. Villa Monastero, Varenna (Viale Giovanni Polvani, 4) – Wander the dreamy gardens and stately halls. Check opening times: generally 09:30–19:30 but closed Tuesdays! Lake Como, Menaggio – No trip’s complete without lingering at the water’s edge. Find a lakeside spot for dinner and watch the sunset reflected on the water – so unforgettable. My Personal Tips: Go early if you’re doing a day trip! There’s so much to see, you’ll want every minute. Varenna is LESS crowded and so, SO romantic vs busy Como town. Perfect for couples or solo travelers who want a quieter vibe. Don’t miss dinner by Lake Como – alfresco dining here is a must. Getting Around: Ferries and trains connect the towns – super easy, affordable, and scenic! Walk between Varenna hotspots with ease. Food tip: Try lake fish at a lakeside trattoria; order a spritz and just chill. #LakeComo #VarennaViews #ItalyRomance #TravelTips #HiddenItaly

Some places are beautiful. Others change the way you feel. Lake Como is one of those rare places where time slows down, the mountains embrace the water, and every breath feels a little lighter. It's not just a destination—it's a reminder that the world is still full of places that can leave you speechless. Once you see it, a part of your heart stays there forever.

Located at the southeastern end of Lake Como, Lecco is a beautiful lakeside city surrounded by dramatic mountains, historic streets, and stunning views over the water. Unlike the smaller villages around the lake, Lecco has a more local and lively atmosphere, making it a great place to experience everyday life in Lombardy while still enjoying the incredible scenery of Lake Como. 🏔️🌿 ✨ Things to do in Lecco: · 🚶 Walk along the lakeside promenade and enjoy views of the lake framed by the Resegone mountain · 🏛️ Explore the historic center, including Piazza Cermenati and the Basilica of San Nicolò with its iconic bell tower · ⛴️ Take a boat ride to discover other towns around Lake Como from a different perspective · 🌅 Visit viewpoints around the city for beautiful sunsets over the lake and mountains · 🚴 Enjoy outdoor activities nearby, from easy lakeside walks to cycling routes and mountain trails 💡 Travel tips: · 🚆 Lecco is one of the easiest Lake Como destinations to reach from Milan, with direct trains taking around 40 minutes · 🚗 It is a great starting point for exploring the eastern side of Lake Como, including Varenna, Bellano, and other scenic areas · 📅 For the best experience, visit on a clear day when the mountains create the most impressive backdrop · 🍝 Don’t leave without trying local Lombardy dishes, especially lake fish specialties and traditional polenta Lecco may not have the postcard-famous reputation of towns like Bellagio or Varenna, but its combination of mountain scenery, lake views, and authentic Italian atmosphere makes it a wonderful stop for travelers exploring Lake Como. 🇮🇹✨ #lecco #lakecomo #lombardy #italytravel #lakecomoexperience #italianlakes #roadtripitaly #visititaly #scenicspotguide #unforgettableexperiences

Italy is a country worth exploring again and again. One trip is never enough. This guide helps you plan your trip, from the classics to advanced options, so you can choose what suits you. 📅 Best travel seasons · Top choice: April–June, September–October. Temperatures range from 15–25℃, with gentle sunshine, fewer tourists, and the best experience. · Avoid: July–August. The whole country is hot and sweltering, attractions have long lines, prices skyrocket, the south feels especially uncomfortable, and many older hotels lack air conditioning. 🗺️ Route planning: explore Italy by visit number If your time is limited, start with the classic route for your first trip; for repeat visitors, check out the second and third trip plans. · First trip: classic highlights (10–14 days): connect Rome → Florence → Venice → Milan. This is the most iconic north-south route. Highlights include ancient Roman civilization, the Renaissance, and the water city all in one trip. Public transportation is convenient, so no need to drive. · Second trip: northern nature (10–12 days): focus on the Dolomites (a hiker’s paradise), Lake Como (a resort destination), and Cinque Terre (colorful cliffside coast). Perfect for nature lovers and those who prefer a slower pace. · Third trip: southern charm (12–14 days): explore Naples (the birthplace of pizza), Pompeii ruins, the Amalfi Coast (world-class cliff coast), and Sicily (ancient Greek sites and volcanoes). Experience the vibrant southern Italian atmosphere, very different from the north. 🏙️ Quick look at key cities · Rome: must-see Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (wish fountain), and Vatican City (St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel). The whole city is an open-air museum. · Florence: cradle of the Renaissance. Don’t miss the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Uffizi Gallery (see Botticelli’s The Birth of Spring), and Accademia Gallery (see Michelangelo’s David). Don’t forget to try the T-bone steak. · Venice: the water city. The heart is St. Mark’s Square and Basilica. Take a gondola ride and spend a day at the colorful island of Burano for photos. · Milan: fashion capital. Visit Milan Cathedral (recommended to climb to the top) and see The Last Supper (advance booking required). 💡 Before you go and safety tips · Safety first: watch out for theft and robbery. Keep your passport on you and have an electronic copy or photocopy ready. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or counting money in public. Recently, there have been cases of Chinese tour groups in Rome and Florence having belongings and documents stolen. Never leave valuables in your car when you’re away. · Driving tips: get your driving documents ready in advance and strictly follow traffic rules. It’s best to keep the car with you and park in lots with attendants. · Transport and customs: high-speed trains Italo or Trenitalia are the easiest way to travel between cities. Booking tickets online in advance is cheaper. When crossing borders, do not carry more than 10,000 euros in cash to avoid heavy customs fines.
