No self-driving needed, a 45-minute high-speed train from Shanghai directly to Huzhou Nanxun Station. There are bus signs right outside the station. You can take a bus directly to the Nanxun Ancient Town scenic area. However, if there are two or more people, it’s recommended to take a taxi directly to the South Gate, as I only paid 6 yuan with a special or fixed price. Scenic area fees: The ancient town is free!! If you want to visit the independent attractions inside, you can buy a combined ticket (85 yuan) at the visitor center or buy individual tickets at the entrance of each attraction. ‼️ Personally, I’m not very interested in places like the former residences, so I don’t recommend buying the combined ticket. You can choose one that interests you (I only visited Xiaolian Zhuang + the Library Pavilion). 🍜 About food: ‼️ Recommended: 1️⃣ Opposite the South Gate on the street, there is a small shop selling Mao Ding Sheng Cake. The auntie is very friendly and you can try samples. If you like glutinous rice cakes and osmanthus cakes, you can buy them! I personally think they are delicious! 2️⃣ A Yan Lamb 💓: The signature lamb noodles and Shuangjiao noodles are delicious!!! You can also get free noodle refills (alkaline noodles). The average cost is 25 yuan per person, which is not expensive. Shuangjiao noodles are a local specialty (exploding fish + pork). I specifically looked up the history of this noodle dish, and it’s very interesting! ❌ Avoid: There are many food shops in the scenic area, so naturally, there are many touts. I suggest everyone check Dianping reviews carefully! The more they try to attract customers, the worse the food usually is. 🚢 About water transportation: You can get a map at the scenic area visitor center. It marks all the docks. We found three types during our visit: 1️⃣ Water bus: Pros: Cheap! Only 3 yuan! But it seems to only run a fixed route (Shizitan <-> East Gate) and departs every half hour. You must buy tickets in advance! You must buy tickets in advance! You must buy tickets in advance!!! (Although 4 PM is the last bus, if tickets sell out early, they stop selling for the day. We unfortunately missed it perfectly 😭) 2️⃣ Manually rowed boat: Pros: Slow and leisurely with the charm of hand rowing, and you can charter the boat. Cons: Expensive!! Charged per boat, max 8 seats per boat, 180 yuan for half route, 320 yuan for full route. (If two families share, it’s quite cost-effective) 3️⃣ Electric boat: Pros: Charged per person, many dock stops. 30 yuan per person. More suitable for solo trips. Cons: You will share the boat with many people (about ten), and the electric boat goes quite fast. 🍵 About tea brewing around the stove: Many people want to experience the romance of brewing tea by the river in Nanxun. Don’t worry, you can find farmhouses offering tea brewing all over the ancient town. Recommended: You can try Nanxun’s Three-Stage Tea (one sweet tea, one salty tea, and finally a clear tea). It’s suggested to find a place around Baijian Building area, which is quieter, has a better atmosphere, and fewer people than the entrance area of the ancient town. It’s perfect for chatting with friends. Prices are pretty similar everywhere.
